View 10 RepliesFigured it would be a little lighter to have a thread that shows that Apple's computer CAN and DO work occasionally....Here's my uptime on my i7! It wants me to reboot for Safari update, but I refuse. As of 8:42am PST, March 16, 2010:I guess currently I have the longest uptime of anyone in this thread!
View 12 Replies View RelatedIs it true that antivirus software is not really needed with a Mac? I do not do pron sites but do go to TPB some but mostly for videos but not apps.
So, if I need AV, what are the good (cheap) ones? What about spyware/malware?
I would like to uninstall old anti-virus files. Both Virusbarrier and Norton were used at one time. Both programs have been deleted but I still get asked about Virsubarrier renewal as well as Norton safe files questions. I've gone thru applications, library folders and I've used Appzapper. Where are the hidden files?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Trend Micro Smart surfing with serial number starting with TCEF. I am currently running my mac book pro on OSX Maverics Version 10.9.4. As soon as I installed the software, I got the error message that the software is not compatible with this version of OS. I went to applications and selected Trend Micro Smart surfing and moved it to trash and also emptied the trash. After this my laptop is rebooting frequently. I even went to safe mode and then into
system preferences ---> users and groups---> Login items and found nothing related to Trend Micro smart surfing. I have also tried to reinstall max osx and still having reboot issue. I have a lot of data and I am afraid I will loose this.

OK, I'm not the most cautious web browser in the world and from time to time have found myself connected to sites that were probably a bad choice. I haven't had any problems in the past year until this morning. My SO was emailing someone and several error messages popped up regarding System Errors and an Internet Antivirus Pro warning, which of course wanted them to download the program, I assume. It was not downloaded. The mouse cursor would still move, but you couldn't click on anything on the screen. So a hard force quit was done, and the modem was shut off.
Turned the Mac back on, ran a Intego VirusBarrier check, all was OK. I then googled "Internet Antivirus PRO" and it sounds as if it is a major piece of malware/spware/trojan....something bad that is very difficult to remove(from a PC...that is-there even is a YouTube video showing you how to go about the removal process on Windows). I can find NOTHING on this "program" being on a Mac. Should I be concerned? Is it as easy as going into my downloads folder and deleting anything with an .'.exe' in it, or is it more complicated.
Does anyone know a free but decent antivirus software for mac?? I'm new to mac and I don't have a clue which one's popular among mac community etc.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy employer offers free Norton antivirus software for Mac or PC to all its employees for use on the employees' home computers. Question: Should I load the software on my new 2009 iMac, or pass on it? Free is great, but would it do more harm than good, such as slowing down my computer? FWIW, at the Apple store several employees told me neither they nor the store manager uses antivirus software on their personal macs.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2009 i7 and would like to add a 2.5 SSD and retain the current 1TB HD. Is this possible? I don't want to replace the DVD. I have read I would need to short the temperature sensor. Could someone tell me what cable is required? Also do I need a special mount for the OEM HD(3.5?) + SSD? Also another option, have SSD 2.5 and regular HD 2.5 to replace the standard 3.5" OEM HD. I read the logic board only have one SATA port but would like to know if it is possible to use a cable that fits both? Would this affect performance?

View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone think it will be possible to swap the next generation/updated iMac's GPU with either the 4850 or 4670 GPU on the current iMac? It seems like a GPU update is the most sought after feature in the pending refresh. I would really like to get an iMac now (would be my first Mac obviously) and for me the decision to buy now would be a lot easier if there was chance of swapping out the GPU's down the road. Thoughts?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac that's about a year old. I also have a new PC that's slightly faster. I'm trying to figure out which one to use and which to sell. I had an eMac whose hard drive died after 5 years. The screen was pretty blurry and maybe a little dim by then as well. So, I'm wondering how long this one will last. If the previous white ones were built in a similar manner, how have they held up?

SDXC was introduced in 2009 and it's supposed to be the replacement to SDHC. Supposed to be much higher read speeds. So does the iMac support the SDXC cards?

I have removed Kasperky via the Kaspersky removal tool but i notice it still references it below? Unusually it seems to be ridiculously unstable when i am downloading any Movies i have purchased from iTunes (the current movie has crashed 4 or 5 times today) or if i am ripping a DVD i have purchased using iSkysoft. I have started in safe mode but that made no difference, i actually think it has gotten worse since i removed the extra RAM.

We both use calendars quite a bit... My iPhone is setup with my MBP, and since i travel quite a bit i need to keep it that way.
I gather there've been more than a few headaches getting working video drivers for the ATI 4850 in the iMac (windows side). A few posts have said that version 8.661 of the AMD driver (Catalyst 9.10) works, but other versions including newer ones, don't.

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Macbook Pro.
I need to run an antivirus from a usb key before Windows XP Pro loads, but since there's no BIOS I'm not sure how to do this. Can anyone provide the steps to tell the Macbook Pro to look for the usb key prior to initiating the boot sequence?
I tried holding down the option key while booting, but the key isn't recognized.

I have 2 MBPs. One has Intego suite and other other will get Norton Internet Security for Mac in next 30 minutes.
The intego one has a suspect malware. Instead of uninstalling the Intego and installing the Norton, I was wondering if I could install Norton on the clean Machine and then boot Intego machine by pressing T like in transfer mode when you set up a new mac.
Once the HD of Intego Machine is visible, could I run the norton from the other machine on the HD of the intego by right clicking it and say scan for virus etc..
I'm new convert and LOVE my MacBook Air. There is something, however, that keeps me up at night. VIRUSES/SPYWARE/WORMS, etc. I've read some posts here and what I'm getting is that an Anti-Virus program is not necessary on my Mac. I do have Norton AntiVirus 10.2. Is that enough? What about firewalls, spyware, etc. After years on a PC, I'm addicted to these things. Should I upgrade to Norton Internet Security?
