First I had a beta of this one called Expander. Then I got this other joint called MacPAR deLuxe. But I find that both have trouble extracting some files, so I wanted to ask what you guys think is the very best winrar solution on mac.
View 20 RepliesIm trying to make a copy of a DVD. Ive used Mac the Ripper to rip the entire DVD. I have it in a Video_TS folder waiting to be burnt. I was going to use the app "Burn" to burn it, but the Video_TS is currently too large to be brunt to a DVD. I need to compress it first. I know apps like Popcorn and Toast can do this, but I dont have the money to pay for any software right now, and I am looking for a free solution.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI sent an email to Steve Jobs about my yellow tint 21.5 iMac issues (three exchanges, all affected, resulting in a refund). I got a call from Dena at Executive Care within 24 hours.
She said they are aware of the problem and do not know how widespread it is. According to Dena, the issue is not resolved and that ordering a new iMac will not result in a fixed display.
She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.
I have some problems starting some full-screen games and apps. This is because I have a secondary monitor connected (a television). I only use my second monitor for watching films and such, the rest of the time it's turned off.
But for some reason my iMac still sees my monitor. This causes the games and apps to stop functioning.
Is there any solution that doesn't involve plugging my monitor in and out?
i have an imac here which won't start when i push the power button. nothing happens. there is no noise, no fan, no flashing on screen or something else. i already opend it and checked the 4 LEDs on the logicboard. nothing to see there too. the only thing i noticed is, when i connect the power supply i hear an short noise coming from the PSU, i think and one (i think the first) LED flashes one time. also tried to push the internal power button, without success. noticed NO exploded or damaged capacitors on PSU and Logicboard (but i think thas more a problem of older G5).

When I remove the glass planel to clean it and put it back, there is inevitably ALWAYS some dust that gets in between the second I wipe the screen and second I put it on. I've spent hours over the past few weeks doing this and it's driving me mad. All I want is a screen with no dust. I heard I can use canned air. If so, how exactly would I go about doing this? Spraying the canned air inside?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've only got 21 GB left on my iMac out of 639 GB or something (I save a LOT of videos and audios). My computer is running soooooo slow so I'm thinking that it's just got too much in there and too close to the max capacity to run faster. Am I right? Do I need to delete things or purge or what to free up storage?
I've already deleted a ton of files but I think they are saved in more than one place which means duplicate files all over the place I think? Not sure.
But I can't always save something to the folder I want to save it in, it goes in my downloads folder where then I have to move it to the appropriate folder to save in an organized manner. I've deleted most of my downloads folder and many videos but I'd rather save them somewhere instead and not just rely on YouTube to host and save them.
I have an online data backup system too, Carbonite, but I'm not sure I can save other things there that then are not still on my computer?
I could save things on a hard drive but will that really solve my sloooow computer running issues?
Not sure what to do?

So, I'm not really expecting this to actually work, but is anyone aware of any way I can use my 20" Mid-2007 iMac as a secondary monitor for my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro without any wires and for free?
I add for free because I heard something about a program called ScreenRecycler or something like that, which costs money and thus I am not interested.
I'm ordering a new iMac tomorrow. I'm a little worried about the inability to open the iMac up and clean any of the fan blades. I know the fan on my tower, the fan on my graphics card, even my ceiling fan gets dusts around here (2 dogs, SoCal dust etc). They require periodic cleaning or the gunk level gets....well....pretty gunky! Is there a filter of some kind that's easy to get to to keep the inside of my iMac nice and clean (read: cool)?

Question: Should I load the software on my new 2009 iMac, or pass on it? Free is great, but would it do more harm than good, such as slowing down my computer? But the info is incorrect, I have a 500 Gb HD partitioned to 430 for OS X and 70 for Win7. And that is exactly what it shows on the desktop, not the correct amount of free space, but the maximum capacity of the drive. I read one post that said to simply drag something into the drive, and it would re-register with the correct amount of space, tried it and needless to say it didn't work. So does anyone know how to make this work? I posted a screen to show you what I mean, but the image is so small I don't know if you will be able to see what I am talking about

What's the best (Software)Firewall solution for OS X. At the moment I work with a mixed environment ( ipfw, Apple Application Firewall and Little Snitch ). It seems to be secure, but this is an absolute overhead. I noticed, that my internet performance slowed down. For the moment I'm not able to spend money on a hardware solution. I'm searching for a complete Firewall software that controls incoming as well as outgoing connections ( Apple seems not to be interested in distributing a complete and easy waterproof solution ). Unfortunately ipfw offers no application control. I'm not a security expert, thus I need an easy configurable firewall.
View 4 Replies View RelatedOkay, I have a unibody MacBook with 10.5.8 OS X. I have disk warrior, and it is telling me to boot from the CD/DVD it is on. It says to hold C until the boot up screen shows up. I hold down C, but all I see is a white screen that flashes. I tried holding alt/option and selecting the CD with the arrow keys and pressing enter, but it just takes me to my Mac OS X HD. Is there another way to boot from a CD?

View 13 Replies View RelatedI currently have a MBP. I have my Lacie ext drive connected to my AEBS, so I can access my media wirelessly.
This drive is partitioned, so half for my media (mainly movies) and other half for time machine backups. I have had numerous issues, so have just been thinking of making a few changes. My idea is to buy a larger external drive, either 1 or 2TB, and use that solely for my media. I will then use my current drive for time machine backups only. I thought I would be able to connect two ext hard drives to the AEBS, but this is not the case as it only has one USB. As a solution I am now thinking of buying a NAS drive instead for my media.
Will I be able to use a Lacie NAS drive with my AEBS? Are there any other NAS options I should consider? My budget is preferably around ?150, but I may be able to stretch to about ?200 Over 802.11n, what are the data transfer rates like when compared to ext drive connected via AEBS? I am also intending of getting an Apple TV in a month or so. By the time this happens I hope that after jailbreaking it I will be able to access movies stored on this drive via Apple TV. So whatever drive I get now, should work seamlessly with this
