OS X :: Deleting Preference Folder / Files List On Leopard 10.5.8?

Jan 21, 2010

I have a June 2009 17" 2.8 UMBP which has been driving me mad with near constant beach balls! I run no intensive programmes at all - just emails & surfing the net!

I originally used migration assistant from a Tiger MBP to this one & read that I may have corrupted Tiger P-Lists transferred over to my Leopard One. I would like to ask, how can I get rid of/delete my current preferences list to see if that fixes the problem - it did with another person who also transferred from Tiger to Leopard with Migration Assistant!

Will I lose anything by deleting the Preferences Folder/Files? I think I read somewhere that OS X automatically replaces them with current versions if that is correct? Ae Preference Lists taken care of too when deleting the folder/files?

I am a novice so please treat me like a 4 year old who needs very step by step instructions!

ICloud On Mac :: Why Does Safari Reading List Keep Deleting Links

Sep 2, 2014

I have a long, long list of links in my Safari Reading list, which is linked to my iCloud to sync automatically.

When I go way back to my oldest link, about 2 years old, after I click and open it, the link is deleted from Reading List !

I looked in Safari Preferences and set "History update" to manual, but this has no effect (I'm not totally surprised).

MacBook Pro :: Popular Choice / Hassle Free 1TB Drive

Jul 30, 2010

Been hitting the search and found that the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB is a popular choice amongst MBP owners. Will this have any issues with the SMS? Also, can I expect any increase in heat and vibration, as opposed to the stock drive? Finally, I've heard a few people say that the bottom plate doesn't sit flush due to the extra height of the drive (12.5 - 9.5mm), is this true?

Intel Mac :: Can't Browse To Certain Web Sites

Jun 27, 2012

I cannot browse by name to certain web sites like google, yahoo. I can browse to others. This is true of both Safari and Firefox. I can, however put the ip address I get by doing a ping on the same machine into the browser and go straight there. By virtue of it being both browsers, I have ruled out the application. By virtue of being able to ping, I have ruled out dns name resolution. It's just the browser that can't get there.

Intel Mac :: Connecting To Certain HTTPS (Secure) Sites?

May 4, 2012

I can't get into *certain* secure sites.  I first noticed the problem a few weeks ago when I couldn't check out at Amazon, the log-in page would not come up.  Neither would any page on Amazon that is secure, i.e., requiring the entry of my password. The problem has grown.  Most recently I couldn't get into Bank Of America, now I can't get into gmail.  The real kick is I couldn't get in HERE!!  (But I *can* get into my bank account, I *can* get into Chase and I *can* get into Citi, no problems.) The problem is occurring on both Safari and Firefox, so it's apparently not a browser issue. My ISP is Hughesnet, the satellite ISP. Now, how did I get in here and why do I suspect Hughes?  Because I have a back-up dial-up ISP, Juno, and I got in here using Juno and have gotten into all of the other sites I just mentioned using Juno.  Only thing is, Juno takes eons.  I mean EONS. As I said, I suspect Hughes.  But, I thought I'd come here and seek help from you guys, I've received excellent and much appreciated help here in the past.  I'm hoping that I'm wrong, that it's not a Hughes problem, and that someone here can suggest a way I can correct w/e is wrong with my settings (if, in fact, it is my settings).
