OS X ::connecting IMac As Wireless Secondary Monitor For Free?

Oct 27, 2010

So, I'm not really expecting this to actually work, but is anyone aware of any way I can use my 20" Mid-2007 iMac as a secondary monitor for my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro without any wires and for free?

I add for free because I heard something about a program called ScreenRecycler or something like that, which costs money and thus I am not interested.

IMac :: Unable To Use TV As Secondary Monitor / Switch Between Primary And Secondary Display?

Feb 2, 2009

we are trying to hook up our TV as a secondary monitor (for hulu, netflix, etc) but it defaults as the primary monitor. We would like to keep the imac as the primary monitor, and have the TV as a secondary, but cannot figure out how to do it! The only way we can get the imac back to primary status is if we use mirror mode. Once we take it off mirror mode, the TV becomes the primary monitor again, and there appears to be no way of switching it in OSX display preferences.

I've done similar hookups with my laptop, and the TV defaults as the secondary monitor. Why isn't this happening with our iMac? Any ideas?

IMac :: Secondary Monitor Not Working - Only Shows Black Screen

Jun 10, 2010

24" iMac running 10.6.3 and having some issues all of the sudden with my secondary monitor. It detects the display and the monitor comes out of standby, but only shows a black screen. Tried it with another monitor to see if that was the issue but it's not. Seems as if the iMac is sending bad video signal out... Couldn't find anything similar on a quick google search so I thought I'd try here to see if anyone had any similar problems.

i don't know what I did, but for some reason, new windows on firefox opens on my laptop monitor (instead of my 20 inch LCD, I am running dual screens).

1. I am running dual screens, but my EXTERNAL monitor is the primary one (top menu bar is on the external monitor)

2. All applications open by default on my main monitor, except for FIREFOX.

3. I have tried dragging the firefox window back to main monitor, both in spaces view as well as normal view, to no avail.

IMac :: IMac Freezes When Connecting External Monitor?

Apr 8, 2008

I have a newer iMac 24" bought in 11/2007. I have the mini-dvi to vga converter and when I connect it to a external tv capable of 1024x768, the iMac freezes and does nothing. I disconnect and the screen turns blue and the flickers back on and everything works. I have made the connection then booted up, and I have tried every resolution all the way down to 640x480, same thing it just locks up the screen, but again as soon as I unplug the mini-dvi to vga cable from the iMac it flicks to a blue screen and everything comes back. I have reviewed dmesg nothing, and revieiw /var/log/messages. Is there any troubleshooting I can do. I am old school unix/linux guy just converted my family to Apple and would like to use the display on my tv to watch my iTunes movies.

IMac :: Media Setup - Connecting HD Monitor And Xbox 360

Jun 22, 2010

Here's my idea on a setup when I move into my garage. Xbox 360 connected to iMac 27" with a Kanex XD HDMI to Mini DisplayPort adaptor. A FreeView box also connected via HDMI though the Kanex XD adaptor using a HDMI switch. Or instead of the FreeView box I might get an EyeTV TV Tuner so I can use the new app to watch live tv on my iPhone.

Here's my other idea...
Mac Mini connected to my 42" Samsung HD monitor via HDMI
Xbox 360 also connected to the monitor with HDMI
A FreeView box also connected via HDMI to the monitor with a HDMI switch to change between the three.
I suppose it depends on screen size at the end of the day.

Desktops :: IMac Not Connecting To Wireless Router

Dec 17, 2010

I recently purchased an iMac desktop and installed it in my home office. It worked fine, except that the airport was connecting erratically to the wireless router, which is located about 5-7 meters away in a different room. I tried re-positioning the iMac to have better 'reception' but the problem persists. I can see the number of airport connectivity 'bars' changing every second and then going off fully. Very frustrating.

Could there be a problem with the iMac antenna? A colleague told me that if there's a wireless phone in the house near the router that can cause problems. Another told me that the router (a basic D-link 802.11g, 5 yrs old) needs to be replaced.

If so, is there anything you can do to help me out to get them both working properly?A netgear router that was provided by time warner is being used and I'm not sure if y'all need anymore information than that.

IMac :: Connecting To Wireless Internet Via AirPort

May 8, 2009

To make a long story short, I moved to my girlfriend's place yesterday and I plugged in my iMac (20" 2.16 Ghz Intel C2D, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM) and I've been trying to connect to the Internet. Now, I couldn't have my iMac plugged directly were the router is located. Back at home, I never had any problems since I had my ethernet cable plugged into my iMac.

So this was my first time trying to connect via wireless or Airport (if that's even the same thing). Basically, I choose the network to log in and typed in the WEP key. I didn't get an error message so I assumed the key was fine. Also, it says that I'm connected to the network I'm on. However, when I try to get on Safari or MSN or something says I'm not connected to the Internet.

OS X :: Connecting IMac To Xbox 360 Wireless Adaptor

Jan 15, 2010

I've searched for hours upon hours trying to find solutions to my problem. I recently purchased the xbox 360 wireless adaptor hoping it would pick up the internet sharing I have coming from my imac, which is connected to a modem via ethernet cable. I send out the internet on my imac as I have 2 windows laptops and my iphone which all connect with no problems what so ever.

The xbox wireless adaptor will see my imacs network but just won't join. There are a few people around my neighborhood that have unsecured networks which the xbox wireless adaptor picks up and connects to no problem. I now want to try the apple usb to ethernet converter with my imac to see if I can connect the xbox 360's RJ-45 into either the apple to ethernet converter or the imacs ethernet port while still receiving the internet from my modem.

OS X :: SL - Switching Profiles Affects The Secondary Monitor Also!?

Sep 3, 2009

what's happening here? Under Snow Leopard (this didn't happen before) when I change the profile of my MBP-screen the colors of my secondary monitor (BenQ G2400W) change randomly. This happens when using the topmost profile on the secondary screen. This means to me that I cannot use that profile because it's somehow multiplied with/overridden by the primary monitors profile. This topmost profile (named after the BenQ G2400W) happens to be the best (was in Leopard) so it's quite messed up.

However due to a small and cramped desk, the only place the monitor will sit is above the macbook on a shelf. I know the iPad just got an App where it allows you to use it as a wireless secondary monitor. So I'm wondering, such technology should be available for the macbook too right? I know it's a bit sluggish, but here at work I only have 1 monitor and I do a lot of coding/multitasking work and if I could use my laptop as a secondary monitor (wirelessly/wired), that would be great. My work PC has Windows on it though, so that's something to note.

TV, MacBook Pro, and LCD Monitor.MacBook Pro - has a DVI port.TV - has a DVI port and a couple HDMI ports.LCD monitor - is VGA (currently using a VGA to DVI converter to hook up to my Mac).

From my understanding, I will need a DVI extension and a DVI Y splitter either DVI/VGA or DVI/DVI.

Does this seem right? Is their a better way to do this?
