Been hitting the search and found that the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 1TB is a popular choice amongst MBP owners. Will this have any issues with the SMS? Also, can I expect any increase in heat and vibration, as opposed to the stock drive? Finally, I've heard a few people say that the bottom plate doesn't sit flush due to the extra height of the drive (12.5 - 9.5mm), is this true?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with my iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (Random freezing up). I took it to the local Apple Store and an associate suggested I back up my hard drive before bring it in for diagnosis. He suggested a 2 TB external drive but others have told me that is way too large. I have heard everything from nothing larger than a 500 GB drive and even one self proclaimed computer wizzard says I can get by with a 10 GB thumb drive. What is the right size and if it is a 1 or 2 TB drive, why do I need such a large one.

Have a powermac g5 tower w/o an airport card. It looks like it is a hassle to put in a airport card. I have free wireless in a new apartment and want to access it. Is there a cheaper way than getting a card placed and having the "board replaced" as well. Help line said it would cost several hundred dollars to upgrade this machine!

I am a long time PC user that just recently got a MacBook Pro. I am out of space on my hard drive and not sure exactly what is eating up all the volume? I went to About This Mac and looked at the Macintosh HD and it says I only have 28GB out of 499GB available. The piece that is using up lion's share is all yellow "Other". I'm confused - when I look at my Storage info under the "About This Mac" item, my internal drive shows that it has "141.6 GB free out of 499.25 GB" Yet when I look at a Finder window, the drive shows 230.89 GB available. That's an almost 90 GB difference. I'm assuming (until someone tells me otherwise) that the "About This Mac" information is the 'truest' but I, frankly, don't know.

Not sure, but for some reason my mac hard drive has got to be 95% full. I know where all the things I put on my laptop are and have added them up and they do not equal up to 132 GB of space. I have deleted the Previous Systems folder which was taking up a lot of space. Where are there more mysterious locations that are taking up space that are not needed and safe to delete?

My main use for the hard drive is for transferring media files back and forth between my MBP and PC using just one partition on the drive. To free up space, I have moved my iMovie clips off to a secondary hard drive, but I have not seen my free disk space free up on my Macbook pro. Why is this? I moved, not copied the files. 15 inch MacBook Pro. Internal speakers will not play. Output to headphone plug did work. Now I cannot insert headphones into socket, it seems to be too shallow. There is no red glow as mentioned in other posts. I had the red glow issue on an older MacBook and resolved it by inserting toothpick into socket and triggered switch. I have used command, option, r and p reset.

Seems like pretty good deal, although only 2 reviews it seems to be very good. I heard a lot of good things about Seagate, especially their warranty.
I was leaning towards WD but I've heard a lot of reliabilities issues with their MyBook's actually.
Anyone have this drive? I would go 1.5 TB but I hear current HDD technology isn't up to snuff yet to make another more than 1 TB reliable .. though that could be false.
