IMac :: Finding 2008 20in Power Distribution Information?
Apr 29, 2010
I have taken some measurements from my PSU and since I have not seen this sort of info posted anywhere else and it is not in the service manual I thought I'd share it here.
refer attached
Note ** The voltage on pin 4 varies according to the temperature of the PSU and ranges between 1.7V and 2.5V - Higher voltage = lower temperature.

I recently bought an used iMac (was purchased new in feburary 2009) in which I knew the screen was not showing any video when I bought it. ( I was okay with that I thought I'd give it a go at fixing) well the problem seems to be within the LCD itself. When I hit the power button I hear the chime, fan spins, and the hard drive does it's thing. I ended up taking the casing off the iMac to where it only shows the bottom half of the insides underneath the LCD. My question is now to diagnose what exactly is wrong with it by using the 4 led lights. I have searched the forums and the Internet up and down for which ones mean what but I have only found out information on older iMacs. When my iMac is off (still plugged in) LED 1 is on. When I turn the iMac on LED 1,2, and 3 are green. Which that leaves the 4th LED not being lit up at all. I suspect this has something to do with the iMac not showing any video but as I said I am not sure because I cannot find any information on it anywhere.

Well I received my refurbished 27" i5 about two weeks ago. Since taking it out of the box it has consistently rebooted itself and sometimes even shuts down where I can't power it back up unless I remove the cord from the machine and reinsert it. I tried everything to troubleshoot, zapped PRAM, Reset SMC Controller, logged times after removing USB components, ran multiple quick and full hardware tests. Finally I gave one last attempt and wiped my drive clean and reinstalled snow leopard...Not a single one of these measures worked.
So today I finally called applecare for the first time ever. THey were extremely helpful, didn't try to walk me through troubleshooting steps since they understood that I already tried them all. They instead stated that since Im at around 28 days since ordering (may 14) that I can have it repaired or they can claim the one I got as DOA and ship me a brand new one. Once I receive the new one I ship the old one back. They also bumped up my delivery to overnight since I have been putting up with the reboots and trying to troubleshoot myself.

My friend has a 20 inch iMac (model MB324LL/A) and he has bought 2x4GB SO-DIMMS from cosair. He has put them in and the mac wont recognise them, however it will recognise and boot up with 6GB (using 1 old chip and 1 new one) and he has tried swapping the chips about to make sure one is not faulty.
According to cruicial and Apple the max supported is 4GB but if it runs on 6GB can he get it to work on 8GB somehow?

I have a 20 inch imac that I bought about 2 years ago. The processor is a 2.4 GHz intel core 2 duo. and the memory is 1 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I am wanting to try and sell this and buy new 13" macbook pro, the 2.4GHz model with 4 GB Ram. I want to get this now because I do alot of video editing for action sports using Final Cut Pro, now getting into Adobe Premiere, but I am driving alot and would like to have a MBP to bring with me now. I want to know though, how much of a performance difference would I see using this for Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere?

In Mail, when I go to import from Entourage it does not work it says it cannot find the mailboxes in Entourage. Is there another way I can do this import? I don't know where the mailbox files for Entourage or Mail are located.

I have Powermac G4 AGP (M7628LL/A) that has the AGP slot without the 'power-supplying' tab at the front of the slot. Therefore my NVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card (ADC/VGA) will only enable me to use the VGA outlet, and not the ADC. I have two Studio Display Monitors (M7649) and cannot use them.
I need to know (1) What other monitors will work with this G4 (in case I cannot fulfill #2), and most importantly (2) Which motherboard can I replace this one with that will enable me to use the video card in it's fullest?

I keep having a popup (left center screen) that sort of looks like a small folder with the word easyNAT at the top. It only last a fraction of a second so I can't screen capture or even study it closely (it's taken a long time just to determine it says easyNAT).

I have a single Quad core 2008 Mac Pro with 2GB RAM (2x1GB). I am hoping to get more RAM from Crucial. I don't use my Pro for hard core stuff, just Internet, COD4, SecondLife, movies, iPhoto, iTunes etc..
I need to decide whether to get 2x1GB or 2X2GB. The 2x2GB is better value for money but I heard that a 4 matching set ie. 4x1GB would optimize RAM speed. Is this true? Would 4x1GB be faster than 2x1GB + 2x2GB for the applications I use?

In my old old old excel 2003 when I was searching for some words in excel sheet (e.g. in the column) I could choose "to find all" option. So I saw all the results in the "find" window. In excel 2008 for Mac I can see search results only one by one not altogether. On microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/mac/help.ms...f-17820d214cef
I couldn't find tha answer also. Does anyone know how to make it in excel 2008 for mac so i could see all search results in the "find" window?

I tried the "search" box before making this thread. Would like to know if the power supply from a 2008 MacPro work on a 2006 MacPro. If anyone has tried this? My 2006 MacPro shut down suddenly and would not turn on. I use an APC UPS plugged on a power surge outlet. The Mac technician who examined the unit suspected it might be the power supply but Apple may not have in stock the power supply for the Ist Gen MacPro.

So I was saving MS office documents to my mac, and had to email an assignment to my teacher whom recieved it and couldn't open it because I then noticed I sent it and it had no file extension so I added .docx and sent it to her.
But I was playing around with the same file and remove the .docx extension and sent it to myself and this time it did have the file extension on my Windows computer
Also I have finder to not show file extensions and they still do, I'm a bit confused about all this.

I have a 2008 MP and in a rush to pack I pulled my cord out of my MacPro and just as I did that I realized I had already unplugged my 30" ACD. The cords have been mixed up.
They're the same really with the exception of one cord has a gray plug that goes into either the MP or the ACD. On that cord is a white label that reads: 13A 125V~ whereas the other says nothing and is 100% while throughout. I want to think the gray one goes to the ACD but I cannot be certain and I'm afraid to blind test them.

I try to open an exported Keynote '08 document.
Here's what happens: I create a Keynote '08 document and export it as Power Point. If I either double-click or try to open from within PPT '08, I get a crash stating that PPT has encountered an error and needs to quit. This happens EVERY time with EVERY single exported presentation. Oddly, it never happened in PPT '04.
Has anyone else had this issue?

alright so everything with my late 2008 macbook pro had been fine up until about three weeks ago when it started to randomly crash (while watching movies online and using vuze). so tonight i decided to reset the PRAM since i had seen that as a possible solution on some of the other threads on this issue. did that but now the front power LED doesn't come on when the computer is on. so far no crashes yet but who knows

I was wondering if anyone here has the 27inch i3 iMac? From most of the posts on the forum, it seems most 27inch owners have the i5 or i7.
The reason I ask is this; I am planning on selling my mid/late 07 24inch iMac and purchasing one of the newer ones. I realise that the best value for money is the base 21.5" i3, however I do want the better graphics card.
The difference in price between the two 21" models is 256GBP here in the UK. However, the difference between the 21" and the i3 27" then becomes only 153GBP, which seems relatively small for the huge increase in screen size.
My uses can be considered quite average; my profession is not in the video/photo industry and hence I don't do anything that can be considered extremely heavy.
What are peoples' experiences with the 27" i3? Further, what are peoples' experiences with such a huge screen size in general? Is it 'too' big?
