OS X :: Mixed 30" ACD And 2008 MacPro Power Cords?
Sep 29, 2010
I have a 2008 MP and in a rush to pack I pulled my cord out of my MacPro and just as I did that I realized I had already unplugged my 30" ACD. The cords have been mixed up.
They're the same really with the exception of one cord has a gray plug that goes into either the MP or the ACD. On that cord is a white label that reads: 13A 125V~ whereas the other says nothing and is 100% while throughout. I want to think the gray one goes to the ACD but I cannot be certain and I'm afraid to blind test them.

Is there really a "Late 2008" model? If so, what is the difference.I ask because I recently got a MacPro and according to Apple's hardware test, it is an Early 2008.

I'm considering uprgrading my MacPro from Snow Leapord to Lion, but am concerned about some of the negative reviews I've read.My machine was purchased in 2008 and currently runs OSX 10.6.8, which runs all of my software with no flaws or incompatibilites.I'm a music composer with projects always in rotation.I compose with MOTU's Digital Performer and can't afford a lot of downtime as a result of a "bad" upgrade, hence my apprehension. My machine's specs are below: Model Identifier: [code] If anyone out there has upgraded a machine like mine to Lion with either positive or negative results.

1) Can I take my secondary drive in my Powermac G5 and install it into my forthcoming Mac Pro ? Or is the SATA interface different on the new machines.
2) Ordering extra memory from Crucial to save $, what's the situation with 'fans' and things on the memory. I'm confused, totally. Does the mac pro's require additional heat cooling on the memory, does the memory from crucial come with this, is it easy to install like the powermac or am I going to be left floundering like a fish out of water....

Quick question...don't know if this is the right place to post...I need to connect a printer via USB but the cord is not long enough. I am planning on buying two USB extender cables (with a male and a female end) to reach the distance. The total cord length should not exceed 18 feet, but will I loose signal at that distance with the signal having to travel through 3 different cords?

I tried the "search" box before making this thread. Would like to know if the power supply from a 2008 MacPro work on a 2006 MacPro. If anyone has tried this? My 2006 MacPro shut down suddenly and would not turn on. I use an APC UPS plugged on a power surge outlet. The Mac technician who examined the unit suspected it might be the power supply but Apple may not have in stock the power supply for the Ist Gen MacPro.

Working for a business that deals a lot with Mac notebooks, we're looking for a way to manage our MagSafe cords. We have a counter in which we set the computers on, and underneath the counter we keep all the cords. We have some retractable Ethernet cords (which are wonderful), but does anyone know of a way to make MagSafe cords retractable? Or is there a DIY way to make your own retractable cords? I thought about getting a retractable box of some kind, gutting it, and putting in the MagSafe, but not sure where to start.

I'm considering buying a wireless N router but i'm curious of one thing:
I have a macbook pro with wireless N, but another computer in my house is only wireless G. If were both connected at the same time will my macbook still get the full speed of wireless N, or will having a wireless G connected slow it down to G speeds?

I try to open an exported Keynote '08 document.
Here's what happens: I create a Keynote '08 document and export it as Power Point. If I either double-click or try to open from within PPT '08, I get a crash stating that PPT has encountered an error and needs to quit. This happens EVERY time with EVERY single exported presentation. Oddly, it never happened in PPT '04.
Has anyone else had this issue?

alright so everything with my late 2008 macbook pro had been fine up until about three weeks ago when it started to randomly crash (while watching movies online and using vuze). so tonight i decided to reset the PRAM since i had seen that as a possible solution on some of the other threads on this issue. did that but now the front power LED doesn't come on when the computer is on. so far no crashes yet but who knows

If I buy the new 11" MBA, will the cords from the Thunderbolt display reach? I noticed that the MBA has power on one side and the Thunderbolt port on the other. Â I am concerned that the cords won't reach both.

I have mixed media dvd that has interactive cooking techniques that I need to use for my college course. When I put the dvd in the combo drive, I go launch the application inside the dvd labeled oncooking.osx The program begins to load but then a finder browser comes up saying "Where is @:xsprocket:shell?" I could then browse my HD for it but I can't find it (nor know what I'm looking for). I don't really know if this is a plugin that I could download or what. I'm running Leopard 10.5.1 on the last revision iBook with a combo drive. Here is the exact title of the dvd: Cooking Techniques DVD, 4/E by Pearson Prentice Hall

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro (early 2008) and now my function keys are mixed up. My volume keys are now F3 and F4 for example.
I have already unchecked, Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys as standard function keys in System Preferences and it didnt fix the problem. Also, under the keyboard shortcuts tab I have clicked the Restore Defaults button. This also didnt fix my problem.

I have taken some measurements from my PSU and since I have not seen this sort of info posted anywhere else and it is not in the service manual I thought I'd share it here.
refer attached
Note ** The voltage on pin 4 varies according to the temperature of the PSU and ranges between 1.7V and 2.5V - Higher voltage = lower temperature.

I left mine back home (6000 miles away) and find it annoying to have to sit very close to the wall every time I'm charging my MBP and using it at the same time. The extension cords I've seen on Amazon and the like all seem quite dodgy, is there any way I can buy the extension cord directly from Apple? I haven't seen it in the online store?

i am really shocked with iTunes. I have just bought my mother an 160GB Classic and am starting to rip her entire music collection which is at least 100CDs.. however sometimes for albums iTunes gets mixed up with disc 1 and disc 2 and labels them wrong and sometimes does [disc 1] and (disc 2)... it should be consistent not mixing brackets... i have had to edit the tags manually..

I’ve got the locked edit in FCPX. 90+ min, 8000 clips.Timeline is set at 23.98, clips on the timeline are some 23.98, but mostly the BMCC 24p. No prob for FCPX. It plays with whatever you throw at it. The problem comes in when I’m trying to export OUT, because the other programs don’t like it. Like I’ve got to get my audio post engineer this AAF for ProTools out with X2Pro. X2Pro doesn’t support this "retiming" that FCPX does and spits out warnings for non-conformance. What to do? Change all the clips to 23.98 or change all the clips to 24p, or is there some other better/easier way to get that audio (with syncing video) out to ProTools?

Users of Apple's ultraportable Mac are increasingly reporting that a firmware update might be taming processor usage, but is still leaving many of their systems too hot to use and prone to software freezes.
While a number of owners at Apple's discussion forums say the hardware patch solved a problem that would force a core to shut down entirely and ramp up the internal temperature, others still note the slim system continues to overheat and in some cases will bog down as the MacBook Air is unable to cope with a given application's demand, particularly an OS component known as kernel_task.
This happens regardless of whether any peripherals are attached that might ask more of the system.
Others also notice that their systems are simply slowing down in different ways: instead of switching off a single core, a handful report their systems keeping both cores active under most temperatures but lowering the clock speed, producing much the same result.
"This 'update' is a farce - all that it does is step the processor down to 800MHz as soon as the [temperature] rises to some ridiculously low [level]," one Air user explains.
Common troubleshooting steps appear to rule out software as the cause, even with complete operating system reinstalls. A number of less cautious owners have taken to installing the unofficial third-party app CoolBook to adjust system voltages and force the system to run at full speed but at lower voltages and thus lower heat.
For those determined to get an official solution, Apple's frontline technicians have had little success. More than one customer bringing his MacBook Air to the Genius Bar was told that a hardware repair was unlikely to help and to hope for "a software update or some other word" from Apple to provide a more permanent remedy.
While candid, the response comes with no public Apple response and is described as little consolation to customers who feel the system either too hot or too slow to be workable in real conditions.
"How long am I expected to wait? Currently, my computer isn't fit for the purpose for which it was built and sold," an affected owner says.[ View this article at AppleInsider.com ]

The 8800GT in my Mac Pro 1,1 just died. I'm back up with the 7300 for now.
Can I adapt the EVGA's GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition for use? It comes with the cables, and I more than willing to pay the extra $$$ to save myself hunting around for parts.
I'm also a bit confused about the 4870 upgrade. Does the Apple version work out of the box on my 1,1? If so, maybe that's the way to go for now?

I'm putting together a workstation that primarily is going to be used for Windows development and I wanted to have as fast a disk subsystem as possible.
It doesn't seem to be BootCamp drivers available for the card that Apple sells, so I found this card instead:
[URL]
It has EFI firmware and is able to boot MacOSX from raid arrays. The only question is if it is able to boot stuff through Bios emulation.
Vista x64 is the primary target here, and SP1 actually has EFI booting support, so it might be possible to use this. However when I tried to install Vista x64 with SP1 integrated on the MacBook Air I wasn't even able to boot installer DVD because of EFI incompatibilities.
Anyone have any experiences with booting BootCamp on a MacPro with a raid card?

I am a student who is currently starting to work on some at home projects with cartoon animation (Toon Boom) and Video Editing (Final Cut/After Effects). I have a Dual 2.0 G5 with 1G Ram. Would there be a significant advantage in upgrading to a Dual 2.8 Mac Pro? I could probably get 700-800 dollars for the current computer so, would dropping 2000 on a new tower give me a huge boost in performance? (Money is kind of an issue but not if the difference is staggering.) Or should I just upgrade the RAM on my current tower, be happy with what I have and quit jabbering?
