I am a new Imac owner running Mac OS 10.6.5. I recovered .dbx files from my Outlook Express folder from my old Windows XP system. Right now I can't seem to open them. Can I open-save these emails that were stored in this Outlook Express folder.

I am having trouble converting my Mac (not PC) Outlook Express messages to Entourage (eventually I would like to move them to Mac Mail as well). On my old iMac I ran System 8.6 and Outlook Express. The messages on my old iMac were mostly saved as a single file named "Messages" in my "Main Identity" folder - this is how Outlook Express seemed to save the messages. I now have a PowerMac G5 running 10.5.6 and running Mac Mail as well as Entourage. I need to have a look at my old backed-up messages for business purposes, but I am unable to do so. I have given away my old iMac and so now I am stuck with System X and Entourage/Mac Mail.
I have downloaded the PST Import Tool but it does not seem to recognise my Mac Outlook Express files. I tried to open the files with Entourage; my old Outlook Express "Messages file" is recognised (or labelled) as an "Entourage database" but it does not open. I did have some individual messages saved that I was able to simply copy and paste as messages on to Entourage. But 99% of the old messages are stored in this single, large "Messages" file. And it is this file which I need to convert/import and am unable to do so. How do I convert this mac file into something that Entourage or MS Mail is able to understands seems to be the key question. All of this is very disconcerting to me - I have been a Mac person all my life and given that I am not changing computer platforms, I did not expect to encounter such problems. And there are some important e-mails I really do need to retrieve.
I need to recover a mail attachment from an old dead Titanium from a friend. He needs to look for an important attachment. I have all the content from the machine in my hard drive, running Lion here. I located the Outlook Express Main Indentity but canoot figue out a way to import the messages to any modern mail program.
I wonder if the mail attachments are stored in any specific location of the system, or are encrypted into the Messages files in such Indentity.
I other words, can a navigate the stored Outllok Express attachments and find those files or is everything lost without an OS9 machine?
I do not like my email program. Can I change it to Outlook Express?

mom recently got a Mac, which I'm about to start setting up for her. She was previously using an XP PC, and her biggest concern in terms of switching is making sure that she still has all her old emails on the computer. Is there a nice, easy way to transfer all data from Outlook Express (including all old emails stored on the computer) to a Mac? Broadening the scope a little more, is there anything I should know before I start backing up all of her files? Is there an easy way to go about moving everything from "My Documents" to the home folder on the Mac? I will have both computers on a home network as I'm doing this to make sure everything I'm doing is working as I'm doing it.

Before I switched to my PB G4 (which a few months ago was replaced by a new MB Pro) in 2003, I archived my Outlook identity as a Stuffit file. The other day I discovered this old archive and thought I'd try to retrieve the message from it. I unstuffed it and the result was an "Entourage Database." Okay, but Entourage will not let me import from it. When I try to use it as the database for Entourage, it needs to be rebuilt, but when it is rebuilt, the file size is reduced from 190 MB to 18 MB and the content is apparently cleaned out. Does anyone know how I can get these old email messages out of this file and into either Entourage or Apple Mail?

View 2 Replies View Related10.8 and 10.9 become a headache copying/moving files/folders between disks. After download selected images to my Imac from cards I used to move all of them to a local network backup disk (attached to a linux OS)
I don't do this anymore from a year ago: annoying warnings like "the file ... is in use" (not in use, even had been downloaded) stopped move; repeated procedure with the rest of the files included the 'used' one, over and over again and finally, after 12 times or so all files had moved. 100 files to move, stop, 80 files to move, stop, 60 files.......
Same problem moving files between disks attached to the same iMac.'You have to provide an admin password...." -> Continue Password set and again 'File ... is in use' (not in use, it is just backup file)Reseting the Mac. Worse

In the Mail app, I'm getting a circle with a triangle and an exclamation mark inside it. I can't receive or send my from this (Outlook Express) account. It's a work email account, but it has been working fine until now. I clicked Rebuild from the app menu (trying to fix it!), but that only removed all existing emails in the mailbox.

After I change my OS from Mavericks to Yosemite, moving files between folders is very slow.
For example, if I move one jpg file in Desktop to Pictures folder (or just any other folders like Trash), it takes about 3 seconds.
When I was still using Mavericks, it made that Ding sound and transferred files right away. However, now, although it makes the Ding sound right away, the file is still there for 3 seconds.
I tried to clean up my mac using many apps, but they never fixed this problem.
I've also tried what I saw on this one thread. OS X File Transfers Very Slow
Go->Connect to Server then type "cifs://server-address" but it says there is a problem and did nothing. (maybe different issue)

We do however need to ensure that the emails are kept in date order when moved out of Outlook - is this possible?
So far, every time I've moved emails into a desktop folder the date created automatically changes to the date that I've moved the emails. Is there a way to retain the original date, aside from opening each email to check the date?

I bought a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex External drive. I transferred all my files from my previous external HD. When I went to access my folders on my external HD, the folders are all locked, with Sharing and Permission section in the Information "Everyone: Read" only! I can't change any of the information or move things! All of them are locked and "read only." I know how to change it, but only manually, individually. I have several hundreds of folders and I don't want to manually change all of them to "Read & Write." Is their a way to let me re-set the folders to "Read & Write" easily??

[that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.
If I send a msg from Apple Mail to i.e. Outlook Express. The same msg shows up with "clean" text formating. That will say, no formatting at all. See this screen: [URL:...] I have just gotten back to the Mac now from 10-11 months in hell with Windows-stuf, so I am really eager to get this fixed. View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to use both AND and OR rules with Mail's [mail.app] mail rules? For example in Outlook Express I have a rule which says should: the message body contain ANY of the following words:
one
two
three
four
AND the account is <insert account name here>
THEN move to <insert folder name here>
However on Mail there seems to only be the option for ANY or ALL and if I apply ANY then it will also move all mail from any account which has the words one, two, three or four, not just from the account I supplied. In additional all other e-mails from the account supplied will be moved as well, even if they don't contain those words.
I just bought a Mac and need to export my OE mail to Mac mail. The Apple store would not help me with this because they said it could not be done perfectly, therefore, they do not offer this service.

I've got some mailboxes in Outlook 2003 on my Windows work machine that I'd like to export and open on my Mac, maybe saving them on a USB key and taking them home. Can I open or work with these on my MBP running Leopard? The emails only have to be read-only, even just being able to open and read them would be OK, but I'd also like the attachments, if at all possible. I can't currently test this on my work (Tiger) Mac as Mail isn't working. Any clues from the wise ones?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo here is the deal: My father is transferring to a mac, but he wants the outlook stuff to come with him, and he picked me to arrange that:
1) I want to transfer Outlook files to Mac, contacts and adress book will manage, but I want all the tethering of the saved emails (All emails saved in folders and sub-folders in outlook) to remain intact.
2) I searched and saw some shady way of renaming the files and messing around with them, don't wanna use that.
3) I downloaded trial of 02M by little machines, but that could not connect to outlook and they don't really offer support. (installed latest updates from MS etc.)
4) haven't tried Thunderbird, but I think it just won't do the job.
Can someone please help. I am trying to convert my pst files to work on a mac os x version 10.5.8. using thunderbird. I used thunderbird on windows vista to import my pst files to thunderbird. Then I saved the mail directory and transfered to my mac. I dont know what to do now. I heard you must rename some file to mbox.
