Sep 7, 2009As a precursor to my question perhaps I ought to admit that I don't yet have my old and less-old iMacs 'talking' to one another. (The former is of the translucent, coloured-bodied type and the latter an iMac G4.) Do please be aware that I'm not technical in the least. (My pen-name is no accident.) Could some kind soul tell me where I may find a jargon-free, step-by-step guide to transferring OE e-mails in OS 9 to Entourage in OS X 10.4.11

Jul 17, 2007mom recently got a Mac, which I'm about to start setting up for her. She was previously using an XP PC, and her biggest concern in terms of switching is making sure that she still has all her old emails on the computer. Is there a nice, easy way to transfer all data from Outlook Express (including all old emails stored on the computer) to a Mac? Broadening the scope a little more, is there anything I should know before I start backing up all of her files? Is there an easy way to go about moving everything from "My Documents" to the home folder on the Mac? I will have both computers on a home network as I'm doing this to make sure everything I'm doing is working as I'm doing it.

Jan 31, 2010Is there away to import mail account settings from Thunderbird and/or Outlook Express into Mail? [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.

Feb 1, 2010Is it possible to use both AND and OR rules with Mail's [mail.app] mail rules? For example in Outlook Express I have a rule which says should: the message body contain ANY of the following words:
one
two
three
four
AND the account is <insert account name here>
THEN move to <insert folder name here>
However on Mail there seems to only be the option for ANY or ALL and if I apply ANY then it will also move all mail from any account which has the words one, two, three or four, not just from the account I supplied. In additional all other e-mails from the account supplied will be moved as well, even if they don't contain those words.

Software :: Unable To Transfer Emails / OSX Mail Not Importing Old Inbox
Sep 27, 2009Acquired new MacBook; attempts to import old OSX Mail from ailing G4 PowerBook only partially successful.
First attempt: took copy of "Mail" folder from "Library" folder, and copied it into MacBook's "Library" folder. Opened Mail, and my minor folders (4-5 mail folders with no more than 100 messages each) appeared OK; no sign of my inbox mail (1,300 messages), or sent mail (2,500 messages).
Second attempt: discarded "Mail" folder from above. Ran Apple Backup to restore Mail files. Selected over-write everything option. Same results as above.
Third attempt: tried to import the mail boxes using File: Import Mailboxes function. Each time I select the folders with the emails I want (my old Inbox and Sent mail), the import wizard says" No valid Mail messages found". However, if I just manually open those folders, and double-click on any of the mail files (all with .emix extensions), I can open each email.
Am currently pulling out hair trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Old PowerBook files were encrypted using File Vault. New MacBook was encrypted using FileVault after attempt 3 failed above, and then de-encrypted when that didn't work, and the above steps were repeated, to no avail.
OS X :: "Mail" Seems Inferior To "Outlook Express"?
Sep 15, 2010I used to Microsoft Outlook Express and below are questions on the default Mail.
1) I have a signature but whenever I click New Message (meaning to compose a mail), the signature isn't there. I have to everytime click on the right signature box to have the signature pasted.
I want my signature to be there always after one click when composing a mail. Have I missed any step in my setup?
2) There seems we cannot sort mail in ascending or descending order. The nearest is by date recieved or sent which is not exactly ascending or descending. Again, have I miss it?

Apr 14, 2009I am having trouble converting my Mac (not PC) Outlook Express messages to Entourage (eventually I would like to move them to Mac Mail as well). On my old iMac I ran System 8.6 and Outlook Express. The messages on my old iMac were mostly saved as a single file named "Messages" in my "Main Identity" folder - this is how Outlook Express seemed to save the messages. I now have a PowerMac G5 running 10.5.6 and running Mac Mail as well as Entourage. I need to have a look at my old backed-up messages for business purposes, but I am unable to do so. I have given away my old iMac and so now I am stuck with System X and Entourage/Mac Mail.
I have downloaded the PST Import Tool but it does not seem to recognise my Mac Outlook Express files. I tried to open the files with Entourage; my old Outlook Express "Messages file" is recognised (or labelled) as an "Entourage database" but it does not open. I did have some individual messages saved that I was able to simply copy and paste as messages on to Entourage. But 99% of the old messages are stored in this single, large "Messages" file. And it is this file which I need to convert/import and am unable to do so. How do I convert this mac file into something that Entourage or MS Mail is able to understands seems to be the key question. All of this is very disconcerting to me - I have been a Mac person all my life and given that I am not changing computer platforms, I did not expect to encounter such problems. And there are some important e-mails I really do need to retrieve.

Jun 26, 2012I need to recover a mail attachment from an old dead Titanium from a friend. He needs to look for an important attachment. I have all the content from the machine in my hard drive, running Lion here. I located the Outlook Express Main Indentity but canoot figue out a way to import the messages to any modern mail program.
I wonder if the mail attachments are stored in any specific location of the system, or are encrypted into the Messages files in such Indentity.
I other words, can a navigate the stored Outllok Express attachments and find those files or is everything lost without an OS9 machine?

Mar 21, 2009I used to use an old version of Outlook Express on my Powerbook 1400 running OS 9.2. Before I switched to my PB G4 (which a few months ago was replaced by a new MB Pro) in 2003, I archived my Outlook identity as a Stuffit file. The other day I discovered this old archive and thought I'd try to retrieve the message from it. I unstuffed it and the result was an "Entourage Database." Okay, but Entourage will not let me import from it. When I try to use it as the database for Entourage, it needs to be rebuilt, but when it is rebuilt, the file size is reduced from 190 MB to 18 MB and the content is apparently cleaned out. Does anyone know how I can get these old email messages out of this file and into either Entourage or Apple Mail?
