I recently bought an iMac and I have noticed within the past week that I have had to force the mail program to shut down. Otherwise if I don't force the mail program to shut down the OS will not let me put the iMac to sleep or to shut down.
View 2 RepliesIf I forward an HTML e-mail manually, it appears the same to the recipient as it does to me, i.e. properly formatted. However, if I forward using a Rule, it appears to get sent as plain text with all the images in the mail as attachments.
why Forwarding should be different when done via a Rule rather than manually? I can't find any settings that may affect this.
I'm tired of typing the first or second letter in the "to" address line and it comes up with an address I don't want anymore. It's not in my address/contact book. So where is that hidden file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some unknown reason my mail program is just now asking for a password when I attempt to send an email. I verified the password with my ISP. When I go to the Mail program/Preferences/Accounts I see a screen that has three sections. The third section offers "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" but offers no box allowing a server number such as 587... Why is that option missing? What is likely causing this sudden request for a password?Â

I am using 10.4.11. I no longer use the "Mail program" that came with my iMac. It's not that I didn't want to, but I changed to "Quest" as my server and could not get it to recognize the Apple "program/application." So, now I'm using the "Quest mail"program. My problem is that when I try to subscribe to some (just some) mailing lists or websites, when I click on "subscribe," my old mail program opens. It has my old email address so is of no use. Any ideas on how I can get my email address changed in the old "Mail," or have my new mail program open when I click on a link?
My IMAC Mail program will not open winmail.data file attachments. What program or additional software do I require to be able to open these files?

i bought an emac that was previously used in a school. i changed all the settings on the computer to my own and when i shut it down and turned it back on, the settings were restored to the original. i've heard that schools use programs to make this happen so it doesn't save anything on their computers but i'm not sure of the name of the application or how to get rid of it.

I'm having trouble with my Apple Mail program. I have a number of e-mail accounts (some with Optimum online, a g-mail, yahoo, etc.) Apple Mail has no problem at all reading and downloading any mail from any of the services. My problem is with Optimum Mail (Optonline.net). Mail refuses to send anything through that set-up. I've been on the phone for hours with Optimum and the settings are all correct. I've tried connecting directly to the cable modem and mail gets sent. This would make me believe that it is the Apple Airport Extreme router that is at fault. I've tried restarting it, re-initializing it and setting it up again and the problem continues. All my Optimum mail is picked up and can be read but it will not send anything through Optimum. It asks if I want to send it through another server (like g-mail or yahoo) and if I pick yes the mail sends.
It happens on all my computers a G-3 and pre Intel iMac G-5 on Tiger and my Macbook on Leopard.
Anyone else hear of this problem? Both Apple support and Optimum online say they have never heard of it. Talking for hours with their tech departments have found no solutions.
I'm looking for an app that will allow me to specify which folders I want to copy to my external drive, updating existing files within it and copying new ones.
I don't want to backup settings, my whole harddrive nor make a bootable backup. Just something to backup what I want to backup and where.
Not sure if Time Machine can do that, but it wants me to reformat my external before I can even find out..and considering how much is on there, I really don't want to have to remove that all elsewhere while doing so. [Don't think I could anyway, none of my internal drives have that much space.]
So, does anyone know of a relatively painless backup app that could do simply what I want? Doesn't sound all that complicated in comparison to some of the more convoluted backup apps I keep finding.

On my previous PC I had 2 portable copies of FIrefox from portableapps.com Can something like that be performed on iMac? Â
Why: sometimes I need to use a US proxy setiings in brouser (to purchase @ US stores that block foreign IPs). On the other hand I have my main everyday Firefox set up for my everyday needs. Switching settings is quite annoying. I just had a separate copy of FF on my PC for use with US proxe settings before i moved to iMac.

I have a Macbook Pro. It has OS 10.4 The mail program will open and the circle will start spinning like it is trying to "get mail." it will spin and spin and eventually close. It will pop up and say mail quit unexpectedly will show that report and reopen box. hen mail is open and the circle is spinning, you can send mail and it works fine. [that is mail.app, to help any one searching later on as Mail is too common a word to search for]. I've imported all my messages correctly but don't know how or if it's possible to import my account settings. Also: I'm in the process of migrating all my e-mails / mail accounts / settings and mail rules from Outlook Express to Mail [Mail.app]. I have successfully got all my e-mails across. I have also managed to convert all the e-mail addresses in the 50+ mail rules, as stored in the Windows registry, from hex into text.
Some of my rules have tens of e-mail addresses which if I had to add in each address separately would be a nightmare. Is there away of block adding in e-mail addresses to Mail? Also is it possible to manually edit the mail rules preference file(s) and insert the e-mail addresses into that? I'm aware I have to manually recreate the rules themselves but that's not so difficult. It's the adding back in of all the e-mail addresses that might be, given the large number that exist.
I've added a Google Apps account to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 few weeks ago to use it in Mail, but I removed it last week. I tried adding it back during the weekend, but I've been getting this error: "Mail couldn't discover the account settings for the Mail server domain"Â
This comes after I click "Set Up" and tick Mail only. I don't have 2 step verification enabled for that account and I didn't change any account settings since adding it last time.Â
Also, I can still see the account (as well as other Google account that's currently not added to OS X) in Accounts.plist located in: ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailDataÂ

I have decided to start using gmail and keeping my email online instead of stored locally in the Mail program.
I have all my old mail and sent mail downloaded locally in the Mail program.
Is there an easy way to export all of that into gmail? I see I can import mail into gmail from other mail accounts, but here I am talking about importing mail that is now stored locally.
When I try to change the settings for my Mail app, in Snow Leopard, the incoming mail settings are greyed out. What do I do to be able to change these?Â
(I had a problem, with my Mail account, which a consultant fixed for me on my laptop. But I cannot remember what he did to access the incoming mail server preferences, and make the changes, because on my desktop these are still greyed out.)

These mails are showing up no problem under notifications on my iPad & iPod touch.
If I restart mail, it finds the messages immediately .me works fine, gmail also Idle is on & it is set to check every minute

But I can't figure out what I need to do in order to enter IP addresses and URL's. None of the HotKeys listed at the bottom of the screen seem to give me what I want.
On my pc, I've been using Dvddecrypter + CloneDVD2 to make backups of my DVD movies. However, I cannot find a DVD re-encoding program for Mac.
