PowerPC :: Emac Restores To Factory Settings When Shut Down

May 26, 2009

i bought an emac that was previously used in a school. i changed all the settings on the computer to my own and when i shut it down and turned it back on, the settings were restored to the original. i've heard that schools use programs to make this happen so it doesn't save anything on their computers but i'm not sure of the name of the application or how to get rid of it.

I have the osx discs and i've tried running them by holdig "C" on power up but it doesn't respond.

I just want it to go back to factory settings.

It would be awesome if you could keep the language basic because I'm not very good with computer talk!

PowerPC :: EMac Randomly Shut Down During Use?

Jan 15, 2010

I was using my eMac today (700MHz, 40GB HD, OS 10.4 Tiger) and it just shut down. It was unplugged for over an hour and nothing happens when I press the power button at all. I just got a Mac mini today so I have a nice new Mac to work on now . But is the eMac done or is it just like the PRAM just locked up?

PowerPC :: IBook Back To Factory Settings Overnight?

May 24, 2008

I changed the username, passwords, background, settings, name of the harddrive and all that, but left her music and photos on for the time being. Then I turned it off for the night. I remember something popping off before it turned off, and I think it was just saying changes had been made or something like that. And I THOUGHT I had pressed okay to save those changes....it was late. But I turn it on this morning and it's practically gone back to basics. EVERYTHING is gone...no music, no photos. The settings and background are factory status. iTunes, iPhoto, and iChat are responding like I'd never used them. The only thing that stayed was my user name, the photo, and the name of the hard drive. I've looked through the computer and havent found anything. I couldnt have restored it, could I?

OS X :: Restore To Original Factory Settings?

Running Leopard 10.5.7. Failing attempts to upgrade to SN. Other forums are saying "Use System Restore Disks" I don't have "System Restore Disks" I have 2 disks that came with the computer called "Mac OS X" not called "System Restore". Do I just pop Disk 1 of 2 in the CD/DVD and hold down C whilst rebooting?

Software :: Restore To Factory Settings?

Oct 18, 2008

I have a PowerBook G4 that is about 3 1/2 years old - my first Mac ever, I got it for college. However, now that it has been so many years I feel like I want to restore it to factory settings, essentially I want to make it like I just opened it up from the box. It still runs fine, maybe a little slow. But mostly I think she's just bogged down from years of classes, music, applications, etc. The problem? Like an idiot, I don't have my start-up disk anymore. I thought maybe I should purchase the upgrade to Leopard for after I wipe it, but I'm not sure how to even do that. Also, $130 is kind of pricey but if I have to purchase a new Tiger start-up disk (if that's even possible) the cost difference might be worth it.

So I guess what I'm asking for is advice about what is the best course to take. Getting a new Tiger disk seems like it might be hard, but I don't know if my PowerBook is new enough to support Leopard. Would it be worth it to find a professional (mind you I live in a small Michigan town that doesn't even have a Best Buy, and the nearest Apple store is in Lansing)? I apologize if I sound so much like a novice that it makes your head explode.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: How To Reboot MBP To Factory Settings

Jun 5, 2012

I just bought a MBP 13" from my friend. It has OSX Lion pre-installed on it so theirs no boot disc. I read the instructions online about rebooting but I didn't do it correctly. What I wanna do it get it back to as if the computer was being turned on for the 1st time. I changed the user name to my name, but when I go to the Air Drop section in Finder, his name still pops in that area. I wanna make it so that everything is under my name. Basically, the login user has my name on it. Air Drop has his name and when you go to USER folder, his name is there too. Want to get it so all of it is under my name.
