View 7 RepliesActually finally got some money together for a mac. Selling my Gaming PC, but I was wondering, have the monitors been updated? I was in best-buy around the time dual core was still around, and noticed the 27 inches were significantly more vibrant. Is this the same case with the new iMacs? I don't really need portability, definitely need to have a stable desktop.

View 20 Replies View RelatedI have a late iMac 2013 and have had problems since day one and always just assumed it was bad RAM as i upgraded to 16GB, from 8. I finally took the RAM i purchased out and have left the original RAM in and still continually get the below error after restart.Â
I have removed Kasperky via the Kaspersky removal tool but i notice it still references it below? Unusually it seems to be ridiculously unstable when i am downloading any Movies i have purchased from iTunes (the current movie has crashed 4 or 5 times today) or if i am ripping a DVD i have purchased using iSkysoft. I have started in safe mode but that made no difference, i actually think it has gotten worse since i removed the extra RAM.Â

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac 27 (end of year 2009) I5.It has 1 TB internal and I want to replace it with a 2 TB internal. I have time machine backups on an external hard drive that has been connected via Firewire. I have another iMac (my son's)Imac 24 Intel Core 2 Duo that has it's own separate Time machine backup to it's own separate firewire connected external drive.Both machines are completely up to date with the latest version of Lion and all other necessary software updates.When the internal hardrive is replaced - I want to use my latest time machine backup to create one profile on the imac and then use my son's latest time machine back up for a second profile.The end goal being to have everything from my current set up ie: apps, documents, itunes, etc existing in one profile and everything in my son's current set up existing in the other profile.We can both be administrators for the time being as well.I should note even though we both have some of the same apps, we both also have other apps that the other does not.
My profile will be using about 900 gigs of total space.My son's profile will be using about 250 gigs of total space.This is temporary until the new iMac is released.Then I will want to transfer my profile to that leaving my son's intact on the iMac 27 I5.I realize that during the temporary period that Time Machine will be making backups of this entire two profile setup, which I am now understanding as I write this will create a new issue for me when I want to transfer only my profile to the new computer as well.But one bridge to cross at a time, I guess.I need to do this because we must bring his current computer to my father - as his iMac G5 is inoperable. We have been doing this round robin hand me down in our family since IMac DV special edition :-)

I've got dual monitors up and running for the first time. With my workflow, I'll be working at one monitor for several hours and then the other for several hours. I'd like to have independent screen savers for each monitor so the one not being used won't get burn in, etc., but I don't see any way to do that. Â
Perhaps I'm answering my own question here, but I would suppose that if I'm in extended mode (which I'll be doing) it's really just one big screen, so there isn't a way to tell the other screen to start running a screen saver....and if I'm mirroring, they're both doing exactly the same thing. Those pieces of logic tell me that I can't do what I want to do. Â
How can I change the quality of screen sharing in Snow Leopard? I've tried adjusting defaults write com.apple.ScreenSharing controlObserveQuality but I'm having no luck. It always streams at full quality which leads to painfully slow screen refreshes.

I've had my Macbook Air for 10 days now and I find its an incredible machine. However there is one thing that really bothers me: the quality of the screen. First, like many Macbooks (LED or not), it is unevenly backlit. It starts bright from the top, then darkens, and when you get close to the hinge it gets really bright again (is this the bleeding effect that people talk about?) Also I find the vertical viewing angle appaling. You really have to get your eyes aligned in a certain precise way in order to have a correct display of colors. As soon as you move your head up and down slightly you get major shifts i nuances and tint. This might just be the deal breaker for me. I have the 9C73 display, which is supposed to be quite good too. Yeah its bright, but who cares about bright when a yellow page looks green in the middle and white on top?

Since both computers use the same gateway (same external IP address that the internet sees), the payment processor can only process payments from one iMac at a time. Both iMacs cannot run an order at the same time. My question is this: Is there a way to configure the router to give each iMac a separate IP address that the internet sees, so that they can both process orders with the payment processor at the same time? If this is a bit confusing, I will try to clarify more.
View 7 Replies View RelatedLove the idea of the big screen, but I'm wondering if the massive bump in resolution will completely spoil lower quality video files, and whether or not I'll be able to really use all that space for full screen video without massive degradation in picture quality. I'm planning to use the iMac as a second TV, and when I bought my HDTV one of my main concerns was its ability to upscale SD content. It can satisfactorily display pretty much anything I throw at it, while many of my friends' TVs display lower quality SD material as an unwatchable mess. The iMac should be able to handle far more complex upscaling algorithms, but does Snow Leopard actually provide upscaling out of the box when I stretch a video I'm watching in VLC? If so, how well does the 27" screen upscale low-res content? Do YouTube videos or low quality video files become unwatchable on a screen with such high resolution? Do they look significantly worse than they would on, say, the 1280x800 screen I'm using now? I don't want to be forced to watch sub-HD content in a tiny little window relative to the size of the screen if I can help it.
Might I be better off with a 21.5" iMac with lower resolution, which ought to be slightly more forgiving with full screen SD content? I know there are plenty of uses for the 27" screen beyond video playback, and I'm not knocking the machine at all. Just trying to buy something that will best serve my own specific needs.
Started archiving all my old photos and creating dvds. started off using iphoto which is great for compiling a quick slideshow to a couple of music tracks. i then imported these to idvd and created my first dvd project which i was pretty pleased with for a first attempt. The only thing i found annoying was that i could not link all the slideshows together in idvd so that they played one after another, instead you had to come back to the menu and start the next one...so i thought i would import these slideshow movies into imovie and create a complete movie with chapters, titles etc. but when i did this i noticed that the quality of the slideshow in imovie was very noticeably worse.
being new to mac i wasnt sure what was up so i thought about importing the photos directly into imovie and working with them there. but once again the quality was really poor compared to the iphoto and idvd slideshows. after this i though maybe its just a preview problem and all will be well when i burn them to dvd and watch them on tv...so i burnt a dvd with one slideshow created in iphoto and imported into idvd and also put on a movie of the same slide show that id imported into imovie and back.
anyway long story short quality still better in slide show created in iphoto.
is there any way to export the movie as high as my project quality everytime i export the quality goes down.

Now all my still clips are blurred badly.  Is there an option to set a High Quality Playback Option. Or can I download 10.1.3, the level where that worked ?Â

When I export my sequence into a Quicktime movie the quality is much worse than it appears in the editor. More specifically, it looks washed out.

View 24 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I have 2 MBAs at home and the displays are different. My first MBA had some build issues. So I called apple and they just sent me a second MBA. The second MBA's display lighting is much brighter especially at the edge of the screen. So the colours are worse and the black is not black any more. So I'm not sure what to do: I want the screen of my first MBA and the build quality of the second one
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have owned a new white macbook for a month or so now and I am a little concerned about the quality of the screen. Basically the viewing angles are very bad. The slightest movement off center, the image completely changes, especially the blacks. Also on a pure black background, the bottom left/right corners are nowhere near black and are sort of shining greyish and it takes a bit of adjustment to get an even black from top to bottom, if at all. I was just wondering if this just a normal circumstance with theses lower-end white macbooks or should there be a better quality screen experience?

Yet mine have a bad color saturation as well as a very low brightness.
Just got the 2.53 model coming from the unibody 2.4 MBP. This new screen is not very good IMHO. I have panel LP154WP4-TLA1. The colors look fake and I swear the text is blurry. I am having major eyestrain when reading in the dark. That never happened with my old MBP.
How do I set up my Time Machine for the 2 separate accounts on my iMac?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I have got the cables and connectors that I need to connect my mbp to my tv via the tv's hdmi port. My question is what settings should the mbp screen resolution be set to in order to get the best picture quality / size when playing itunes tv shows? Also what setting should the tv be on as you have the option of widescreen. 4:3, smart etc.

For those of you that don't: Techrestore essentially removes the glass from your Macbook, puts in a HQ matte screen. Then they make a matte black bezel to go around it. The pictures look great.
