Nov 4, 2010
How would you compare the mba screen quality to the mbp? Appleinsider seems to way in its review that the mbp was a higher quality screen (but mbp has lower res) [URL].

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I have got the cables and connectors that I need to connect my mbp to my tv via the tv's hdmi port. My question is what settings should the mbp screen resolution be set to in order to get the best picture quality / size when playing itunes tv shows? Also what setting should the tv be on as you have the option of widescreen. 4:3, smart etc.

Does the higher resolution of the 15" display more 'colors' than the 13"? I wouldn't think so -but- when I'm comparing a photo on each a 13 and 15" MBP screen, both mid '09 models the 15" shows not only more detail but also more color or rather more accurate colors.
I thought it was a calibration issue so I recalibrated them both, again and it's the same, the 15" shows not only a sharper more detailed photo but also more and/or greater colors.
Maybe it's common knowledge but I wouldn't of expected so much of a difference until I saw them both side by side.

I am looking for a breathtaking high quality wallpaper for my macbook pro that is 1440 x 900 resolution. I was wondering if anyone would like to share cool Lord of the Rings backgrounds that they found from the vast reaches of the internet. I also wanted to share this awesome theme that I stumbled upon for those Mac users out there that use google chrome: [URL]

1440x900 resolution of the new MacBook Air 13.3" screen is simply too high, making everything way too small and straining on my eyes. Is there a replacement LED LCD panel with a lower resolution (1280x800 like the old MBA) that could be retrofitted?

i am using a hackintosh for a week now. I am using it just to get used to Mac OS X because i am switching to a Macbook Pro in a couple months. I switched from PC to Mac officially now. OK, let's come to the main topic of this thread;-At first, my hackintosh couldn't get my gfx card, i couldn't find the driver(kext) so my resolution was very bad. Everything was huge and blurry. I couldn't even look at my 17" Samsung LCD screen. I made an entry to file which was something like this

I've noticed when I create a PDF of a webpage using Apple's built-in "print to PDF" the files are very small, but the quality of images is not high resolution. I have some webpages I want to save in high resolution, is there a way to do this with "print to PDF", or do I have to use Adobe Acrobat or some other software?

I've recently noticed that the quality of images in Safari have dropped in resolution. I have downloaded Firefox and tried this application and this has the same problem. I looks like a Mac OS-X setting issue. I was testing what the cmd-F10, CTRL-F9 etc and other combinations do when the quality shifted. I have a MacBook Pro running Leopard (4 GB, 2.5 Ghz). Images in all other applications look fine.

How much battery life do you loose when going for the High-res screen. Some people are complaining about low battery life with their high resolution screen and I was wondering if there is a connection.
Do the standard screen get better battery life. If so, how much better?

I've had my Macbook Air for 10 days now and I find its an incredible machine. However there is one thing that really bothers me: the quality of the screen. First, like many Macbooks (LED or not), it is unevenly backlit. It starts bright from the top, then darkens, and when you get close to the hinge it gets really bright again (is this the bleeding effect that people talk about?) Also I find the vertical viewing angle appaling. You really have to get your eyes aligned in a certain precise way in order to have a correct display of colors. As soon as you move your head up and down slightly you get major shifts i nuances and tint. This might just be the deal breaker for me. I have the 9C73 display, which is supposed to be quite good too. Yeah its bright, but who cares about bright when a yellow page looks green in the middle and white on top?

Why does everyone complain about the screen quality of the new Alu MacBooks? I don't own one yet (its on its way =]), but I have seen them in various shops and the quality seems amazing! Far better than the white MacBooks! And I didn't notice any annoying glare problems (maybe I will when mine arrives...).

At the moment I have 2 MBAs at home and the displays are different. My first MBA had some build issues. So I called apple and they just sent me a second MBA. The second MBA's display lighting is much brighter especially at the edge of the screen. So the colours are worse and the black is not black any more. So I'm not sure what to do: I want the screen of my first MBA and the build quality of the second one

I have owned a new white macbook for a month or so now and I am a little concerned about the quality of the screen. Basically the viewing angles are very bad. The slightest movement off center, the image completely changes, especially the blacks. Also on a pure black background, the bottom left/right corners are nowhere near black and are sort of shining greyish and it takes a bit of adjustment to get an even black from top to bottom, if at all. I was just wondering if this just a normal circumstance with theses lower-end white macbooks or should there be a better quality screen experience?

I just got a mbp 2.26Ghz 13inch
with screen model 9C9E
I've read some got screen model 9C9F and more.
But I find my screen is not very impressive at all
infact, I think it's not much different form the UMB.
is there any difference between the 2.26 & 2.53's screen?
and some with the same 2.26Ghz model yet having different model of screen of different screen quality.
Yet mine have a bad color saturation as well as a very low brightness.

Just got the 2.53 model coming from the unibody 2.4 MBP. This new screen is not very good IMHO. I have panel LP154WP4-TLA1. The colors look fake and I swear the text is blurry. I am having major eyestrain when reading in the dark. That never happened with my old MBP.

For those of you that consistently read the Macbook Pro forum, you may have already heard of the Techrestore Matte Service. For those of you that don't: Techrestore essentially removes the glass from your Macbook, puts in a HQ matte screen. Then they make a matte black bezel to go around it. The pictures look great. And it's like on youtube and MacWorld and stuff. It was even ZDNET's best in show. [URL] (sideline3's techrestored macbook pro)

I converted a Blu Ray movie and played it on my Mac. I'm actually super impressed how amazing it looks. Full HD movies is the way to go for certain. How does the screen of the MBP compare to the desktop screens and Full HD TV's?

I've been planning to get a MBP over Christmas, and today I went to the local Reseller to get a USB-hub, and I played around with the 15" and 17" after since they were out, and I wanted to see if any other local stores had them. I've been planning on a 15" for a while, but when I looked at them right next to each other, it struck me that the resolution on the 15" is tiny compared to the 17". I realize that it's small because the screen is small, but it's so my smaller that the menubar took up so much physical space it became a problem for me. The 13" on the other hand, looked fine. The resolution is small, but the screen is small too so it fits.
Now I've been using a whitebook with 1280x800 for a while now, and the resolution is one of the primary reasons I'm not going to upgrade to a 13" MBP, but there is no way in hell I am getting the 15" with a fisher-price resolution! Is there any chance Apple could use a 1680x1050 panel instead of the 1440xwhatever? Does anyone know why the refurbs on the UK store are all 17"? There is not a single 13" or 15" there, and hasn't been for a while. Are there known problems on the 17" that I'm not aware of?

Question is: high res screen or not? I'm getting a BTO so store-purchase is out of question anyways. I do graphics editing, but not heavy. Mostly i'm interested in the screen to view nicer photos (raw images), movies, etc.

I recently purchased a new 13 inch mac book pro. its giving the maximum screen resolution of 1280x800 which is highly irritating. I am used to working on a 1440x900 display on MacBook Air but I had to buy pro as there were lot of limitations of space and drives in MacBook Air. Is there anyway I can achieve that on this? I need it badly as I am not able to work.

If you connect say a 13inch macbook to a 19inch monitor using the closed clamshell mode, will the picture quality on the monitor be like a stretched out version of the 13inch screen? I.e. poor, or does the macbook just act like a desktop computer and allow high quality viewing.

I plugged a projector into my macbook air and after unplugging, the entire desktop will not fit on the screen of the MBA no matter what resolution. I have to drag the cursor to top, bottom or side to see what is not shown. The resolution is set at 1440x990 in display preferences.

I'm trying to decided between a 15" and a 17", along with a lot of other people it seems (based on the number of threads here). So I've comped up some images showing the screen resolution differences. Not only are these images the same size as it's respective laptop screen, it also shows the difference in pixel density. The 17 is 133ppi, while the 15 is 110ppi and 13 is 113ppi. These are basically fakes screen shots (i know it's got a tiger menu bar and a leopard dock). The point is just to show the difference in screen real estate with the line of macbooks. Here we first have the 13", then the 15" and the best for last, the 17".
