IMac (Intel) :: BSD Process Name Corresponding To Current Thread
Aug 23, 2014
I have a late iMac 2013 and have had problems since day one and always just assumed it was bad RAM as i upgraded to 16GB, from 8. I finally took the RAM i purchased out and have left the original RAM in and still continually get the below error after restart.Â
I have removed Kasperky via the Kaspersky removal tool but i notice it still references it below? Unusually it seems to be ridiculously unstable when i am downloading any Movies i have purchased from iTunes (the current movie has crashed 4 or 5 times today) or if i am ripping a DVD i have purchased using iSkysoft. I have started in safe mode but that made no difference, i actually think it has gotten worse since i removed the extra RAM.Â
I'm a brand new Mac Pro owner and in one weekend I was able to convert more of my collection than I could in weeks with my other mac. It's nuts! I owe a lot of that to this board, and I thank you guys for it. I'm hoping maybe there's a better way to speed up my current process.
Anyways, on to the topic. Right now my steps are:
1. Insert DVD and RipIt takes care of the rest (with a non-riplocked drive). Takes 8-12 minutes per DVD.
2. I'll do a stack of my DVDs then queue up a list with the terminal-updated version of Handbrake. Each movie takes 25-45 minutes, using only 30% processor power, tops.
3. I usually run two instances of Handbrake to speed up the process. They read the DVD images from my main drive and they write to a second internal drive. Last night I had 15 movies queued up for each Handbrake instance and let it go overnight. All 30 were done by 7:30 this morning (started the process at about midnight).
Going through my entire collection has reminded me of how many bad movies I've bought over the years. There's just some need I have to get my entire collection ready to go on my Apple TV's.
How about you guys? What's your process look like? I'd like to see quicker conversions, but I think I'd need an SSD and better optimized Handbrake to make that happen.
Figured it would be a little lighter to have a thread that shows that Apple's computer CAN and DO work occasionally....Here's my uptime on my i7! It wants me to reboot for Safari update, but I refuse. As of 8:42am PST, March 16, 2010:I guess currently I have the longest uptime of anyone in this thread!
In light of the reported screen problems affecting the previous 2009 revision, I thought it would be useful to establish a separate thread where current-gen owners can report on the quality of their screen. (Mods, if you think this thread is redundant and would prefer all discussion remain in the existing thread, feel free to delete).
iMac OS X version 10.9.4 showing Numbers '09 version 2.3. I installed Numbers version 3.2.2 on August 28, 2014. But Numbers will not permit me to open any documents in iCloud Numbers by a pop-up indicating I need the newer version of Numbers 3.2.2!!!!! When I go to AppStore to do so, it shows I installed it in August and will not permit me to get it.   Â
I also have an iPod with the latest version

I have a 27" Imac and want to use an old 19" monitor as an external unit. I have it hooked up and turned on. Just the old wallpaper shows on it. There isn't an icon or anything diff on my iMac screen for it. How do I use the external? I realize this is pretty dumb, but I'm a newbie here and my Mac expert son is in NC....
I have a Mac Pro with several raid array and single drives attached (1x Wiebetech RTX600 Raid 5 through SCSI; 1x CalDigit HDElement Raid 5 through miniSAS; 4x internal drives).Unfortunately, due to various reasons (electricity outtage and software crashes), I'm experiencing system crashes and need to hard re-start the system. Upon restart, I am able to boot back into Mac OS X, but sometimes one, or both of the raid arrays will not mount. However, after a period of 0.5 - 2 hours, the array would magically re-appear again. Sometimes this might even happen to internal drives that I had mounted inside the chassis of the Mac Pro.
I am wondering if anyone knows of a good osx based alternative to Process Explorer on windows - what I'd like to be able to do is graph CPU and memory for a specific process and ideally see what network connections a specific process has open. atMonitor seems to do this pretty well generally, but not for specific processes (this is for monitoring a multiplayer flash game).
recently I just noticed in the Meunmeters, on my iMac one of the cores is running in full blast, I took a look in Activity Monitor it shows that the fseventsd process is running 100%!I am curious what caused this?
I just got my iMac today and started the migration process, and I'm wondering how you do this safely. I decided that I would rather do this process overnight so I can start using my Mac right now.
I have a late 2009 i7 and would like to add a 2.5 SSD and retain the current 1TB HD. Is this possible? I don't want to replace the DVD. I have read I would need to short the temperature sensor. Could someone tell me what cable is required? Also do I need a special mount for the OEM HD(3.5?) + SSD? Also another option, have SSD 2.5 and regular HD 2.5 to replace the standard 3.5" OEM HD. I read the logic board only have one SATA port but would like to know if it is possible to use a cable that fits both? Would this affect performance?
I have an iMac white intel-based dual core2 which has been sitting untouched since purchased Sept 2006. Trying to upgrade everything.
When I try to upgrade to Lion it says I need Snow Leopard first so, using Safari, I try to buy Snow Leopard and Safari crashes. Safari is 3.0.4. So I try to upgrade Safari but it says I need Snow Leopard first.Â
I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 on an iMac and continuously have problems booting the machine. The boot process occasionally hangs at the gray screen, but more often it hangs at the blue screen. Sometimes it makes it to the login screen where the cursor occasionally freezes. Whenever these problems occur I have to shut down by holding down the start button, then restart again. Usually the second boot is successful. This booting problem occurs frequently, even after running Disk Warrior and repairing permissions. I don't think this is normal behavior. Has anyone else had such problems? Is there anything I can do to correct this behavior, or is this something that needs to be fixed by Apple?

The hanging appears to have been caused when I accidently moved about 40GB of old photo's onto my desktop. Almost immediately I tried to cancel but all that happened is that the system has hung. Processer can be heard working in the background. Being new to MAC I am pretty stumped. Have tried the obvious forced restart using the power on/off button but no luck. Is there a way I can get in and stop this process say at start up?
What's the current status of this? Is it possible to hook a PS3 up to the 27" iMac?As it's my birthday and I am considering getting a ps3 it is quite important to me.
Does anyone think it will be possible to swap the next generation/updated iMac's GPU with either the 4850 or 4670 GPU on the current iMac? It seems like a GPU update is the most sought after feature in the pending refresh. I would really like to get an iMac now (would be my first Mac obviously) and for me the decision to buy now would be a lot easier if there was chance of swapping out the GPU's down the road. Thoughts?
I have a problem with my iMac. I have on a second partition lion installed. Everything worked great, but since I updated to 10.7.4 booting needs about 5 minutes. Already checked the partition and the access rights.
My Imac loses it's Bluetooth connection when asleep. The only way is to reboot in order to reconnect : magic mouse, keyboard, trackpad This is a real pb, it happens frequently.Â
... after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard. Did a straight upgrade from install (not an archive & install).Â
It gets to the login screen quickly, enter password and then endless beachball.Â
Started in single user mode and did fsck, restarted from install disk & repaired (no problems) and repaired preferences. Restarted with PRAM reset. Restarted in safe mode.Â
No problems booting from DVD.Â
ONE TIME I rebooted after single user mode and it worked, I used that opportunity to run the combo updater (downloaded today from Apple).Â
I did find a support page that spoke of a similar condition in early aluminum (2007) iMacs, but this file would not install on my machine.Â
I did an archive and install of Leopard and then updated via Software Update, which should have gotten any updates needed for this machine. Now again, it only boots as far as the blue screen (on auto login). I did not see a similar update file needed for THIS iMac.

After I moved from my old house to my new appartment, my 24" late 2006 iMac instantly started making this annoying high pitch noise. Â I've tracked it to coming from the area around the hard drive fan.Â
I believe there might be a problem with the ground connection in the electricity system in the building. Â Is there a way to measure the current running through my dear iMac?Â
ps.: also see my previous post where I tried to figure out what might be the problem.
Problem is pretty much summarized in the topic line. Had a distnoted process that was eating up all my CPU. Killed it in Activity Monitor, and the computer hung. Forced a restart, and it won't...restart. Tried a safe reboot, resetting the NRAM...no joy. Â
2012 (I believe) iMac running the latest version of OS X Mavericks.Â
I have an iMac that's about a year old. I also have a new PC that's slightly faster. I'm trying to figure out which one to use and which to sell. I had an eMac whose hard drive died after 5 years. The screen was pretty blurry and maybe a little dim by then as well. So, I'm wondering how long this one will last. If the previous white ones were built in a similar manner, how have they held up?
I'm getting the new Canon T2i camera very soon. It's supposed to be retail released in Mid March (which means next week hopefully). Canon supports the new SDXC format. SDXC was introduced in 2009 and it's supposed to be the replacement to SDHC. Supposed to be much higher read speeds. So does the iMac support the SDXC cards?
What's your thoughts of using the current iMac without the glass panel in place? This would be to avoid the glare and such of the screen and hopefully to make it more accurate for colour-specific work.
Guys, I have touched on my iMac 27 on the USB cable and I have got an electric current passing over me. My feet were naked. When I got my shoes back the problem gone. Is this normal? Is it safe for my iMac and external devices?
Will snow Leopard be functional on the current iMacs?I just recently bought a 24" 2.8Ghz iMac, and want to make sure that I will be able to upgrade to Snow Leopard when it comes out.
