Actually finally got some money together for a mac. Selling my Gaming PC, but I was wondering, have the monitors been updated? I was in best-buy around the time dual core was still around, and noticed the 27 inches were significantly more vibrant. Is this the same case with the new iMacs? I don't really need portability, definitely need to have a stable desktop.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm considering getting a 15" MBP, but am trying to decide if it's worth the little extra to get the 2.66 over the 2.53. I have been comparing the differences and I found out that the 2.53 only has 1 fan, whereas the 2.66 has 2. If both are using the 9400m, would the 2.66 run significantly cooler? If so by how much do you think? Would it be better in the long run for the computer?
View 20 Replies View RelatedMy Macbook Pro 13' with 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 processor with 500 gb in my Macintosh HD slowed down so much all of a sudden. I tried everything, resetting NVRAM and PRAM, tried to repair the disk and also tried to repair disk permissions, but to no avail. I even tried to reformat it and reinstalled Mac OSx 10.6.7 using the installation disc and also upgraded it to 10.6.8. It's working better after I reformatted it, but somehow its still slow. Its not laggy but in whatever I do, the stupid rainbow wheel/spinning beachball keeps coming up. Even the simplest of things take a long time to process, like opening safari. Also, the boot up is taking such a long time and it is not as smooth as before. So, because of this I'm starting to suspect that theres a problem with my processor?

I've had my Macbook Air for 10 days now and I find its an incredible machine. However there is one thing that really bothers me: the quality of the screen. First, like many Macbooks (LED or not), it is unevenly backlit. It starts bright from the top, then darkens, and when you get close to the hinge it gets really bright again (is this the bleeding effect that people talk about?) Also I find the vertical viewing angle appaling. You really have to get your eyes aligned in a certain precise way in order to have a correct display of colors. As soon as you move your head up and down slightly you get major shifts i nuances and tint. This might just be the deal breaker for me. I have the 9C73 display, which is supposed to be quite good too. Yeah its bright, but who cares about bright when a yellow page looks green in the middle and white on top?

View 24 Replies View RelatedLove the idea of the big screen, but I'm wondering if the massive bump in resolution will completely spoil lower quality video files, and whether or not I'll be able to really use all that space for full screen video without massive degradation in picture quality. I'm planning to use the iMac as a second TV, and when I bought my HDTV one of my main concerns was its ability to upscale SD content. It can satisfactorily display pretty much anything I throw at it, while many of my friends' TVs display lower quality SD material as an unwatchable mess. The iMac should be able to handle far more complex upscaling algorithms, but does Snow Leopard actually provide upscaling out of the box when I stretch a video I'm watching in VLC? If so, how well does the 27" screen upscale low-res content? Do YouTube videos or low quality video files become unwatchable on a screen with such high resolution? Do they look significantly worse than they would on, say, the 1280x800 screen I'm using now? I don't want to be forced to watch sub-HD content in a tiny little window relative to the size of the screen if I can help it.
Might I be better off with a 21.5" iMac with lower resolution, which ought to be slightly more forgiving with full screen SD content? I know there are plenty of uses for the 27" screen beyond video playback, and I'm not knocking the machine at all. Just trying to buy something that will best serve my own specific needs.
Started archiving all my old photos and creating dvds. started off using iphoto which is great for compiling a quick slideshow to a couple of music tracks. i then imported these to idvd and created my first dvd project which i was pretty pleased with for a first attempt. The only thing i found annoying was that i could not link all the slideshows together in idvd so that they played one after another, instead you had to come back to the menu and start the next one...so i thought i would import these slideshow movies into imovie and create a complete movie with chapters, titles etc. but when i did this i noticed that the quality of the slideshow in imovie was very noticeably worse.
being new to mac i wasnt sure what was up so i thought about importing the photos directly into imovie and working with them there. but once again the quality was really poor compared to the iphoto and idvd slideshows. after this i though maybe its just a preview problem and all will be well when i burn them to dvd and watch them on tv...so i burnt a dvd with one slideshow created in iphoto and imported into idvd and also put on a movie of the same slide show that id imported into imovie and back.
anyway long story short quality still better in slide show created in iphoto.
is there any way to export the movie as high as my project quality everytime i export the quality goes down.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn FCPX 10.1.3 I was able to set in Preferences the Playback Quality to High Quality. I just purchased FCPx 10.1.4. It has NO such High Quality Option for Playback Quality.
Now all my still clips are blurred badly. Is there an option to set a High Quality Playback Option. Or can I download 10.1.3, the level where that worked ?

When I export my sequence into a Quicktime movie the quality is much worse than it appears in the editor. More specifically, it looks washed out.

View 24 Replies View RelatedAt the moment I have 2 MBAs at home and the displays are different. My first MBA had some build issues. So I called apple and they just sent me a second MBA. The second MBA's display lighting is much brighter especially at the edge of the screen. So the colours are worse and the black is not black any more. So I'm not sure what to do: I want the screen of my first MBA and the build quality of the second one
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have owned a new white macbook for a month or so now and I am a little concerned about the quality of the screen. Basically the viewing angles are very bad. The slightest movement off center, the image completely changes, especially the blacks. Also on a pure black background, the bottom left/right corners are nowhere near black and are sort of shining greyish and it takes a bit of adjustment to get an even black from top to bottom, if at all. I was just wondering if this just a normal circumstance with theses lower-end white macbooks or should there be a better quality screen experience?

infact, I think it's not much different form the UMB.
is there any difference between the 2.26 & 2.53's screen?
and some with the same 2.26Ghz model yet having different model of screen of different screen quality.
Yet mine have a bad color saturation as well as a very low brightness.
Just got the 2.53 model coming from the unibody 2.4 MBP. This new screen is not very good IMHO. I have panel LP154WP4-TLA1. The colors look fake and I swear the text is blurry. I am having major eyestrain when reading in the dark. That never happened with my old MBP.

Also, the Mac USB2 implementation is roughly half the speed of Windows. 17MB/sec vs 33MB/sec sequential read.
If I run iPartition on a half-full 1 or 2TB drive to make a second smaller partition on that drive, would it be significantly faster than using disk utility and restoring the files from a backup?

My question is what settings should the mbp screen resolution be set to in order to get the best picture quality / size when playing itunes tv shows? For those of you that don't: Techrestore essentially removes the glass from your Macbook, puts in a HQ matte screen. Then they make a matte black bezel to go around it. The pictures look great. I'm trying to calibrate my 23" Cinema Display and am having trouble getting the proper results. I am using a Pantone Spyder from roughly 2002 and have the latest version of the PhotoCal software (which is no longer supported for Macintosh.) So has hardware/software for colorimeters advanced significantly in the last 8 or 9 years? Is it worth investing in a newer colorimeter for more accurate results?

(The speakers that play the OS X DURRRR and Ear Breaking Memory Beeps) I've tried upgrading the Realtek Audio Drivers from the site and Snow Leopard CD to no success. Does anyone know how to fix this. It's not like this in Vista, but I can't play my games in Vista because I dun have enuff RAM.

I was hoping the new rev would have ironed the atrocious quality control.
I still have yellow discoloration but I can't be bothered. My lady needs a computer and she doesn't want PC. I'll give it a few more days and if I can tolerate the whistle I'll hang on to this one.
At least there is no dead pixels.
I converted a Blu Ray movie and played it on my Mac. I'm actually super impressed how amazing it looks. Full HD movies is the way to go for certain. How does the screen of the MBP compare to the desktop screens and Full HD TV's?
