Hardware :: Time Capsule Backup Size Smaller Than Disk File?
Jun 20, 2009I have been using time capsule for only a few weeks and I have noticed that the file it has created "Elliot Newman's MacBook Pro_001b63936847.sparsebundle" only reads a file size of 95GB, when the disk I am backing up has 148GB used. Does this mean the backup doesn't contain all my files? I have to say it concerns me a little that the backup shows only a single file, is there anyway to see the files that time capsule has backed up? I am updating my MacBook soon with a bigger internal drive and I want to make sure all my files are backed up before I do this.

Mar 10, 2009Does anyone feel like the default text size in all applications is too small when your imac is set at it's best resolution?? I really hate to compromise some of the display quality by decreasing the resolution, but everything seems so small!!! I really hoped on a nice big screen i could look at things larger than I could on my laptop!! Is there anything I can do about this? I am new to Mac, so maybe I am just missing something.

Mar 17, 2012When using bootcamp with Windows 7: My 1080p output is shrunk as if it has the wrong overscan settings. I am using a direct HDMI cable and the display works just fine when using OSX Lion. I tried updating the AMD Catalyst software directly and there is no change. In fact: it's as if the catalyst didn't even install. I can't find the control panel anywhere. It's not the monitor, I tried all the auto adjustment stuff. Plus, again, it works in OSX It's not a cable. I tried switching them. Other computers display correctly to the monitor (Acer, 1080p)

OS X :: Finder Won't Display Folder Size In Size Column Or Info Window?
Feb 5, 2010Normally, the Finder window will display a folder's size in the Size column. However, I have one folder which shows as "Zero KB" in the Size column. When I open the General Info window, the Size reads as "Zero KB on disk (Zero bytes) for 0 items."
In order to get the folder size I have to go into the folder, select all folders, then with either the Summary Info or Inspector window, it'll show the folder size ("185.32 GB on disk").
Why is this occurring in only this folder? Is it because it's a large folder?
I'm running Snow Lep 10.6.2. The folder is on an external drive in FAT32 format.
ITunes :: Get The Shrink Corner To Shrink Down The Window To A Much Smaller Size?
Jun 19, 2012for iTunes 10.6.3 on OS 10.5.8 ppc, is there a way to get the shrink corner to shrink down the iTunes window to a much smaller size? With this new verson, the window is barely adjustable down, & takes up about 70% of an active screen on this 19 in. widescreen LCD. I downloaded & installed sizewell but doesn't give this "shrinkdown" function.

Jul 1, 2014How can I view mail messages in a smaller window? when I open a message it takes up the whole screen of the iMac. It is also very small writing. I tried clicking on the green button. This works on my mac book pro but not on my iMac. When I try zoom to make the text bigger it does not wrap around.

Apr 16, 2012When I opened safari my homepage was apple and it opened using the middle of the display with the desktop screensaver visable on both sides of the page now it opens adn takes up the whole screen I don't know how to resize it and save it where it will open to the same all the time. I'm a very new owner of an IMAC and to apple so I'm completely in the dark to mac systems and just stumbling around. I'm a 70 year old guy that's ben drug into the 21 century and trying to keep up (not very good )

Jun 10, 2012As much as I'd love to upgrade to a 27" Imac, I cant afford to at the moment. So I've decided to buy a display to use with my macbook pro and upgrade the memory too, but I'm unsure what size of screen I can go up to. I've got a late 2008 2.4GHz model. And have been looking at a 24' and 27" Samsung LED display. Will these work with my mac or will I need to go smaller?

Jul 31, 2009I have a Mac Pro with a 23 inch cinema attached. I want my applications to be full size. I drag the right hand corner down and it goes full size BUT as soon as I change a page within that application it goes back to almost max (just above the dock. Its as if the dock is pushing the page higher. When I click on the minimise and then click to open it opens again at almost full size just above the dock. When I click on the green resize maximise button it goes back to where it was and stays there.

IBook :: Display At Start Up Is Half Size
Jun 3, 2014When the computer is turned on the grey startup screen is full size then goes to half size for normal operation. I have already reinstalled the OS and zapped the pram. When I open the display window of the system preferences it shows the main display as 640x480 with no other options and a second display window with 1920x1080 and no options even though there is no other display hooked up. It seems like the main display is stuck in 640x480 which is why it is so small. Running OS 10.2

IMac :: 24" With ATI Radion HD 4850 Display/fixing Late Display?
Sep 22, 2009i am having a weird problem with my brand new imac.. I bought it custom made last friday with ATI Radeon HD 4850. Now here is my issue.. Every time i boot up it takes a while for the screen to turn on. I hear the start up sound and HDD working and all that but screen stays off for another 5+ sec. before finally going grey before apple logo comes up. Now I thought this isn't an issue since i did order it with ATI card instead of standard Nvidia. Figured different cards react differently. However, later on after playing a game for few hours and doing a restart it would do the same thing, but the screen would never turn on. Just stay black forever until i shut it down and wait a minute or two then power it back on. So to clear this up. What happens is, i push power button, start up sound happens, then black.... like it is off, not even the back light. This only happens every few days, not every restart.. I reset SMC, PRAM, ran hardware test, spoke with apple on phone, went to genius bar, and after all that and being passed around now the apple engineers are looking into my problem and i am expecting a call back from them. So i guess my question is, is there anyone else with this setup (ATI Radion) that has this issue?

IMac :: How To Keep Display Sleeping While Keeping External Display Active?

I have my 40" flat screen plugged into my imac via VGA cable to mirror the image.
I'm just trying to have the imac display sleep while I play a movie full screen through the external TV.
I've tried two different ways but both have failed.
1-I set up a hot corner in the imac to sleep display but this results in both the display and the TV sleeping.
2-I just set the power settings to sleep after 1 minute. This works but then If a movie is playing the computer won't go to sleep.

Jul 12, 2010Purchased a brand new 27" i7 imac a few weeks ago, display is awesome!!! I was using my old 28" LCD monitor from my PC and running dual displays on the iMac. The 28" LCD monitor annoyed me a bit because i could not get the same color/crispness/brightness that i got from the iMac. ( also it has a Matt screen and i am more into the glossy screens ) So i found a used 24" cinema display locally. Paid 600.00 and it came with 2 yrs of AppleCare. It is only 7 months old ( still have 5 months under orignal warranty ) Got home, hooked it up and it had a "hint" of yellowness to it, It wasn't a exact image of my iMacs display...I tried to calibrate it also, but it still had just a HINT of yellowness....Nothing at all major, but enough for me to be annoyed with it.

Jan 13, 2010I just purchased a 23" monitor to replace my iMacs 17" display (since it has a nasty crack in one of the corners). I hooked it up fine and all, but the displays are linked, allowing me to hover the mouse to the iMac's display which I find annoying most of the time.
Is there a way to make the iMac display zone out and just use the external by itself?

Sep 15, 2009As you can tell by the thread title I've got one of the latest model iMacs and I'm running an LED Cinema Display as a second monitor. When it gets to the late hours I like to watch some movies on the Mac so I figured the Cinema Display would be a nice addition to do the job.
Now here's my issue: if it's late and I'm watching movies I tend to not have any lights on, but having one of the displays on means having both of them on, what I'm wondering is if it's possible to sleep one display while allowing the other to stay active so I can watch the movie without the light from the other one distracting

Nov 10, 2009I'm interested in the new iMac but could not work with a glossy display. Can anyone share their experiences of using the iMac with an external display? In one respect it seems like a waste to have two monitors but the base model costs little more than the maxed out Mini and seems like the better option.
I would be interested in seeing photos of any setups featuring the iMac and an external display.
Also, is there a way to turn off the iMac display when using an external display?

Dec 25, 2009We have six separate accounts for family members on our Imac. Most work well. However, when two of our children access their accounts, the desktop background size shrinks to about 80% of the screen size. The fonts and icons also become larger. When they log off of their accounts, the appearance changes all of the other accounts until we re-start the computer. Re-start makes it go back to full screen size until on of the two affected accounts are accessed again.
I've attempted changes through the desktop appearance menus in preferences, to no avail.
