I have some scanned PDF's files with big size (10Mb - 15Mb). The original document doesn't exist. How can I change these existing PDF files to a smaller size?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using time capsule for only a few weeks and I have noticed that the file it has created "Elliot Newman's MacBook Pro_001b63936847.sparsebundle" only reads a file size of 95GB, when the disk I am backing up has 148GB used. Does this mean the backup doesn't contain all my files? I have to say it concerns me a little that the backup shows only a single file, is there anyway to see the files that time capsule has backed up? I am updating my MacBook soon with a bigger internal drive and I want to make sure all my files are backed up before I do this.

I have one user account with small (say 9pt) Sidebar items in the custom list of Folders/Places. That user was migrated from Leopard but I do not recall if it came over like that or I set it up. In another user on same MBP the Sidebar items are significantly larger (say 13pt) and I would like to change them to be about 9pt like my other user account.

After reading the warning, I understood that everything would turn into defualt settings and I would not loose any other information. However, in result, after completing a restart; my computer made duplicates of music and pictures. To add on to this, the name change deleted my playlist, which I have no problems with, and made about 3 duplicates of every song in my library which consisted of about 28 gigs of music. Btw...all of the files are there, it is just that there are tons of duplicate files which need to be deleted because of this computer name change.

I have scanned a document on my Canon Printer.The size is very large about 14 Megabytes.I do not know how to reduce the size so that I can send it via Mail. I have searched HELP but have not as yet found an answer. One suggestion was that in my Mail window there is an option to reduce the size of the attachment but I see no such option in my email.

Anyone else noticed that file size calculation in Lion is inaccurate? I noticed when trying to burn cds or dvds with Toast, Toast would calculate the exact size, but Lion would give different results, either larger or smaller, but never accurate.I know for a fact Toast is right and Lion is wrong because I tested the same files in PCs, and in Leopard, and Lion's results are off the mark.Incidentally, I've been using Lion for a month now, and I have to say that in my 18 years as a Mac user I had never encountered so many annoying bugs when switching to a new OS. And don't get me started on the no-color sidebar!

Because I am on wireless and have limited download capacity, I would like to know before hand how large the download for OS X lion 10.7.4 will be. for iTunes 10.6.3 on OS 10.5.8 ppc, is there a way to get the shrink corner to shrink down the iTunes window to a much smaller size? With this new verson, the window is barely adjustable down, & takes up about 70% of an active screen on this 19 in. widescreen LCD. I downloaded & installed sizewell but doesn't give this "shrinkdown" function.

I also realize that when dealing with larger files (video, for example) swap files tend to grow larger. But I can't reconcile going from over 200 gb of available space to showing literally 0 bytes available in less than a half an hour. Granted, I am exporting a video from iMovie (about 2 hours) but to loose over 200 gb of available hard drive space to a swap file doesn't seem right. Is this really my swap file or is something else possibily going on here?

View 14 Replies View RelatedIf I open TextEdit, it seems to work ok. But if I open an existing file (RTF), TextEdit opens but is "not responding" (says the Activity Monitor), for about 2 minutes. Then the file I wanted to open suddenly appears and works fine.
How come? And how can I make TextEdit work normally again?
Does the exclusion of a file or directory remove any existing, already backed up versions of that file or directory from TimeMachine? I have a large file I don't want backed up every time I connect to my backup drive. It's 50GB+. I rarely touch the file, and when I do, I don't use it for anything that needs to be saved, it is a historical only version of my Parallels from an older Microsoft OS. I occasionally need to open it to just look at something, but never 'do' anything with it.Â
I want to exclude it, but don't want any older version of the file to be removed from backup. Does anyone know if exclusions are retroactive into the TimeMachine database? Given this is 50GB+, trying it to find out is a quite slow process.Â
