OS X :: Finder Won't Display Folder Size In Size Column Or Info Window?

Feb 5, 2010

Normally, the Finder window will display a folder's size in the Size column. However, I have one folder which shows as "Zero KB" in the Size column. When I open the General Info window, the Size reads as "Zero KB on disk (Zero bytes) for 0 items."

In order to get the folder size I have to go into the folder, select all folders, then with either the Summary Info or Inspector window, it'll show the folder size ("185.32 GB on disk").

Why is this occurring in only this folder? Is it because it's a large folder?

I'm running Snow Lep 10.6.2. The folder is on an external drive in FAT32 format.

OS X :: Won't Work With Default Finder Window Size

Mar 24, 2008

I've been searching Google for a solution to this - I like all my Finder windows to be the same size, no matter what folder it is. Keeps everything looking universal. Nothing annoys me more than having to keep resizing bloody windows, because the default size has horizontal and vertical scroll bars! I like my Finder window to accommodate 5 folders horizontally.

I've been looking into Terminal commands to see if there is anything in there that would allow me to change the default dimensions, but found nothing.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Why Will Finder Not Remember The Window Size That Set It To

Jun 13, 2012

Every time I open finder I have to drag it out to the size I want it. It will not remember the size I put it at. How do I get it to remember. MBA Mid-2011 with Lion installed 10.7.4.

If I restart it its back to a real small size again and with a 11" MBA that is small.

Applications :: Won't Work With XSlimmer / Current Size In App Different From Finder Size

May 22, 2010

I purchased Xslimmer recently, and I've just notice a big issue. In Xslimmer, it says the current size of the app is say 20 mb, but Finder says it is 50 mb. Same thing after I slim it. I checked on a different computer, and it said the same thing. Could someone check the filesize of Mail.app in Finder (mine was 77.4 mb), and the current size in XSlimmer (said it was 25.5mb).

Applications :: Won't Work With Iphoto Library / Size Doesn't Match Folder Size

Dec 31, 2009

why the iphoto library file size in the finder appears to be a certain size, while iphoto itself reports a very different size. Is there any way to recover any disk space or reconcile the numbers here? Please see the attachments below, it may make a bit more sense that way. I would like to recover the disk space and if it really is a 16gb difference somewhere.

Applications :: ITunes Libary Size Not Matching Music Folder Size?

Nov 27, 2010

I'm using iTunes 9.2.1 and it states that my music library is 159.99gb with 25,994 songs, however the folder containing music files is 171.26gb with 30,309 files. This is a difference of 11.27gb and 4315 files. The folder only contains mp3 or m4a files with their respective album and band folders; no images, text files or anything else. The iTunes folder is located elsewhere. I added the folder to iTunes again to see if there were 11gb of songs I'd forgotten to add and there was no difference. I even deleted all iTunes settings and the current library and added the folder again and it is still missing 11.27gb.

I'm about 95% sure that none of my music collection is missing from iTunes so my first thought was that iTunes is just reading the file sizes and count inaccurately and it really is 171.26gb, but I'm not sure.

Can anyone think of a solution without going though my entire collection and comparing it to iTunes to see if anything is missing?

ITunes :: Auto-Size Name Column?

Mar 31, 2012

When I auto size all columns or just auto size the Name column in a playlist, it gets the width of that column wrong. It's the only one where this happens, but it tends to undershoot by a few characters. It's as though it's trying to estimate how much space to leave for the Ping button -- does anyone use that button?but gets it wrong. This has been happening since 10.6 and still happens with 10.6.1.

Is this just me? Or does it happen to everyone?

OS X :: How To Add Column Headings To Finder Window

Feb 27, 2009

I'm running Mac OS X 10.5.6 (9G55) with Leopard. On a typical work day I'll open Finder to look for pdf files. I'll perform my search for pdf documents and, as expected, all pdf documents that exist on my Mac are listed in Finder. In the Finder dialog box there are headings at the top of the columns that include "Name", "Kind" and "Last Opened". When I single click on any one of the listed pdf documents, the path to that document's location is given at the bottom of the Finder window. Every month I save hundreds of different pdf documents in about 135 different customer file locations.

As a result, I need to be able to add a column heading that orients the results on a file location basis. On my former XP I could add many different headings, including one that simply stated "Filed In" (or something along those lines). By clicking on the heading "Filed In", all of the pdf documents would be grouped and listed by their file location. My question is: Can I add a "Filed In" heading to the search results window of Finder so that I can click on "Filed In" and group search results by the file locations?

OS X Mavericks :: How To Set Default Column Widths In List View When Using A Finder Window

Jun 20, 2014

The default 'document' column is way too wide and forces you eye to track all the way across the screen to read info like "date modified', 'kind' or 'size'.  Tried several times to create a narrower default 'document name' column with no results. Couldn't find anything in preferences or view options. Tried dragging column headers while holding the down the option key with no results.   Every time I open a new finder window, all columns except the 'document' column affixed to the right side of the window. Also, when you grab the bottom right corner of a window to resize smaller, the lists become re-affixed to the right side of the window when opening the window back up.  Experiencing the same problem in Mavericks 10.9.3 on an iMac and Macbook Pro Retina.
