View 14 RepliesAs the title says, I need a new monitor for my old G5 as the old monitor for it went bust. Apple does not make the old displays that came with the unit anymore and the only available monitor is the new LED ones ? but they all come with mini display ports
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor the past few months i have been using an external display hooked up to my 12" powerbook g4. I have had it on a dual display mode so no mirroring. Recently i would open the laptop lid waking it from being in sleep mode and my internal display will not turn on. The apply system profiler does not even recognize that the internal display exists. My external display works fine and has always been set as the main display. If i go to detect displays nothign happens. I have tried restarting the computer, instering system disks, unplugging the external and nothing has worked. I simply cannot get my internal screen to fire back up. When i used to unplug my external display the internal display would switch back to being the main display and everything would be fine. Now i cannot get the internal display to function whatsoever. Please try and help me as a need this laptop working and i will be ordering a mac pro soon for use with my external display.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a display to use with my Powerbook G4 12". I am in love with the 30" cinema display, but according to technical support today, my setup is not compatible (supposedly, but the person on the phone didn't sound to sure). I have a mini DVI, but the 30" requires a dual DVI. I think the 23" display requires DVI, which I can attain with an adapter. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can use with my computer? The bigger the better for me. Also what do you think of the older (plastic case) apple displays?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe title says it all really... Quite a simple problem that I can't find any answer to!
I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
i am having a weird problem with my brand new imac.. I bought it custom made last friday with ATI Radeon HD 4850. Now here is my issue.. Every time i boot up it takes a while for the screen to turn on. I hear the start up sound and HDD working and all that but screen stays off for another 5+ sec. before finally going grey before apple logo comes up. Now I thought this isn't an issue since i did order it with ATI card instead of standard Nvidia. Figured different cards react differently. However, later on after playing a game for few hours and doing a restart it would do the same thing, but the screen would never turn on. Just stay black forever until i shut it down and wait a minute or two then power it back on. So to clear this up. What happens is, i push power button, start up sound happens, then black.... like it is off, not even the back light. This only happens every few days, not every restart.. I reset SMC, PRAM, ran hardware test, spoke with apple on phone, went to genius bar, and after all that and being passed around now the apple engineers are looking into my problem and i am expecting a call back from them. So i guess my question is, is there anyone else with this setup (ATI Radion) that has this issue?

Just wondering if anyone could help me figure this out.
I have my 40" flat screen plugged into my imac via VGA cable to mirror the image.
I'm just trying to have the imac display sleep while I play a movie full screen through the external TV.
I've tried two different ways but both have failed.
1-I set up a hot corner in the imac to sleep display but this results in both the display and the TV sleeping.
2-I just set the power settings to sleep after 1 minute. This works but then If a movie is playing the computer won't go to sleep.
Purchased a brand new 27" i7 imac a few weeks ago, display is awesome!!! I was using my old 28" LCD monitor from my PC and running dual displays on the iMac. The 28" LCD monitor annoyed me a bit because i could not get the same color/crispness/brightness that i got from the iMac. ( also it has a Matt screen and i am more into the glossy screens ) So i found a used 24" cinema display locally. Paid 600.00 and it came with 2 yrs of AppleCare. It is only 7 months old ( still have 5 months under orignal warranty ) Got home, hooked it up and it had a "hint" of yellowness to it, It wasn't a exact image of my iMacs display...I tried to calibrate it also, but it still had just a HINT of yellowness....Nothing at all major, but enough for me to be annoyed with it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a 23" monitor to replace my iMacs 17" display (since it has a nasty crack in one of the corners). I hooked it up fine and all, but the displays are linked, allowing me to hover the mouse to the iMac's display which I find annoying most of the time.
Is there a way to make the iMac display zone out and just use the external by itself?
My parents emac G4 is having a display issue. I gave them this machine when I upgraded. They are lost on it so I am trying to fix it for them.
There are 2 users on the emac.
On the one side the display is perfect.
The other user's display is way too bright. Gray colours look nearly white and I can't see some of the icons in Mail. It looks like it is being lit up extra bright from the back.
The administrator of the computer side is fine. Colours are perfect.
I've gone into System Preferences and worked with the display stuff in there. Contrast/Brightness etc. Nothing.
I would think nothing is wrong with the display since the administrator side is fine. I've changed the gamma stuff and still nothing.
When I go into the Finder on the non-administrator side I cannot access the Colour Sync Utility. I can only do that on the Administrator side, which I did but the changes did not apply to the other side.
I replaced my iMac G4/800 17" hard drive that was failing (S.M.A.R.T. status) tonight. Textbook operation, following directions from xlr8yourmac.com. No problems at all. I pre-built the drive with Tiger 4.10 in an external case (using the iMac as host) and transferred everything to the drive and tested. I booted off the external drive for a few days for testing. Again, no problems.
I got the iMac back together and booted up. Everything sounds fine but the monitor is black. It's as if there's no power to it or perhaps the lamps were just out.
When I press the power key for 1-2 seconds, the mac goes to sleep and the white Sleep Light on the front of the monitor comes on, so the monitor would appear to be getting power.
The Mac is working, evidently, as the chime for new mail sounded and the new drive chirps a little (very quiet though, btw).
I do NOT have a second monitor to hook to the VGA port, unfortunately.
On one reboot there was a sine-wave 'bong' sound, but the Mac proceeded to boot. I shut down again after that, took the housing apart and checked for trouble. Nothing. The video cable and connector is fine. There are no cables pinched or cut that I can see. And I did ever-so-carefully align the two halves when reassembling.
On the third boot I got the normal Mac chime (no bong/gong) and it booted fine - with no video.
One side note that I expect to be un-related: I left the HD jumper in cable-select mode, as the drive that was in there was also set on cable select (was a Western Digital 250GB drive; the new drive is a Maxtor).
What's wrong with this iMac monitor?
As you can tell by the thread title I've got one of the latest model iMacs and I'm running an LED Cinema Display as a second monitor. When it gets to the late hours I like to watch some movies on the Mac so I figured the Cinema Display would be a nice addition to do the job.
Now here's my issue: if it's late and I'm watching movies I tend to not have any lights on, but having one of the displays on means having both of them on, what I'm wondering is if it's possible to sleep one display while allowing the other to stay active so I can watch the movie without the light from the other one distracting
I'm interested in the new iMac but could not work with a glossy display. Can anyone share their experiences of using the iMac with an external display? In one respect it seems like a waste to have two monitors but the base model costs little more than the maxed out Mini and seems like the better option.
I would be interested in seeing photos of any setups featuring the iMac and an external display.
Also, is there a way to turn off the iMac display when using an external display?
just got myself a new 21.5" imac and use to have 19" dell monitor but i sold that and wanted to know if there are any 21.5" monitors out there that look like imacs with a imac stand and black glossy border
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an EMac G4 that has a number of problems, It is a 1.25gz. Sometimes it will boot to a blue, blank screen, on holding down the alt key I see the boot drive and I can start up (10.4os) but will go to the blue screen again. When it does start up properly, which it does for no apparent reason, there are little dash shaped spots on the screen and a flashing horizontal flicker. I ran fsck and disk utility and installed a fresh version of 10.4 to no avail. I do not have the original disks so cannot run hardware test. The computer falls under the Apple emac screen repair but they will not accept it because it is out of the three year time limit, very frustrating and unfair.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just bought an iMac G4 1GHz USB 2.0. When I run the system for more than about 15 mins the screen dies and goes a glorious multi coloured pattern that I cannot recover from. This is persistant from then on through reboots until I Zap the PRAM.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy wife's macbook monitor is destroyed due to happy 2 year old. It won't be worthwhile to replace the monitor and it is not fixable without some expensive work being done on it, therefore I would like to use our TV as an external monitor and retire the macbook to being a mediia computer. I have connected it to the TV, and I see an empty desktop, as far as I can determine it looks like it is treating the TV as a secondary display - that the desktop is extended onto - so I cannot actually interact with the normal desktop. When I try to run things using keyboard shortcuts I hear some sounds of things starting, but I don't see anything on the TV. So what I need to do is to have some way to tell it to treat the secondary display as the primary display.

i own a 27" i7 iMac. I currently use a Hanns.G 28" LCD monitor that i used for my PC but not use it as a 2nd display for the iMac. Everything works great actually but the displays colors are just to different and tend to annoy me. The iMac is Clear, bright and Crisp, The Hanns.G is matt finish screen and though its bright, its a bit washed out looking and no matter how hard i try to adjust the Hanns.G in the monitor settings i cannot get the colors to look the same as the iMac. So i was thinking about getting a 24" ACD ( found one used w 2yr apple care, local for 600 ) and was curious will the display ( color, brightness and crispness ) look the same as the iMacs display?if i come out of sleep or standby, the Hanns.G looks really nasty until it warms up )
View 6 Replies View Relatedmy grandfather's dell laptop is horribly slow. I want to buy him a new computer thats runs faster for his emails/videos. I was looking at the old imacs/emacs on ebay (the 2000-2005) versions.
These comps fit in his budget of approx 100$. I was planning to buy an imac/emac with the following specs
500mhz (or faster) Processor (or 600/700mhz)
256mb (or more) Ram (512mb)
20gb Hard drive (adding external memory)
with the newer os x operating system.
My question will these computers fit his needs? He writes emails, he writes a ton of word documents, and he views videos off youtube and off a media player.
My question is that will these spec'd computers be able to run his needs efficiently?
Are there programs that are similar to the windows (which he is used to)?
Can you run microsoft office on these computers?
If not what would be the recommended specs I should look for?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy employer is giving me a new HP (nope, no macs there ). I am thinking of getting the 12" 2540P Notebook for portability. Question is if I can connect that to my iMac 27" and use the iMac as a monitor?
There is a Displayport on the HP - can a simple cable like this do the job?
I'm getting a high resolution, and it looks alright, but it's not fully using the widescreen. That's "aspect" right? Well anyway, I also have a 19" display and it works perfectly. My Xbox, cable box and movies all use the full widescreen on the Acer, but the Macbook with the super amazing Mini DisplayPort doesn't even use the full resolution. What's with that? I thought the reason they had this new port and a $30 adapter was for higher resolutions!
