I have a further problem with my "time capsule" - When I go in to the time machine it will only show me what has backed up today - nothing from yesterday at all??
View 10 RepliesI have an external HDD that just failed. It was one of the HDDs that has been regularly backed up with a bigger HDD that backs several HDDs using TimeMachine. I can't seem to see the method for restoring the drive data to a new drive?
The computer is a 2.44 ghz iMac running 10.5.7
After some problems with Time Machine backup, I removed a bunch of stuff from my internal hard drive, reformatted my external HD used for backups, and started a new full backup. Time Machine has been running for about 24 hours and gives me a status of Backing up: xx GB of yy GB. Both xx and yy keep growing (apace) so that I don't believe xx will ever equal yy. Â
To cryptic? Here are real numbers. My internal disk being backed up contains 469.39 GB. Backup status now says Backing up: 685.78GB of 754.42 GB. Both numbers just keep growing. I'm happy to let Time Machine overnight (again) but, really, this can't be normal.

I use a shared Mac, on which I would like to have also some of my personal iCloud data (reminders, calendars, etc.).A Time Machine backup of this Mac is made on a regular basis, and I want to know if my iCloud data would be saved into the backup drive via Time Machine.Â
In other words, when I set up an iCloud account on a Mac, does the iCloud data remain on Apple's servers or is it actually downloaded, updated, and saved somewhere locally, and therefore is subject to a Time Machine backup unless it is specifically excluded?
I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my iMac and now I can not access backed up data on my time machine. Time Machine will open normal, but does not allow me to click on different favorites to the left in Finder. I tried my other iMac which was also upgraded to Yosemite and even though this Mac is connected to the time machine via cable, I still can not access favorites in Finder. Seems like Time Machine is frozen.

I have a new macbook pro and I would like to have access to my old files and pictures that were on my old computer. I backed up my older mac onto an external hardrive using timemachine. Can I access those files without "downloading" it all onto my new computer? If so, how? If I can't, do I just need to get a new external hardrive and manually copy those files onto it from my old computer? I still have it and it is still working, just slowly.Â

I am running Time Machine under Mavericks. When I looked at my Time Machine Backup files, I could not find the mail boxes in the appropriate Application support folder. It should be under Library/Application Support/Postbox/Profiles.I am also running Carbonite and have my POP mail accts getting backed up. I should have my email set up as a IMAP. I tried to go that route and after three weeks of dealing with my provider (and level 3 support) they informed me they could set it up for me for another $50. Â

I've just bought the new Airport Extreme Base Station last night. I set up everything just fine. I've set up an external HD to the USB port and got it to work fine so far in terms of file sharing and reading and writing. I also have a dedicated Time Machine external HD attached to my MBP USB drive.Does Time Machine backup shared airport drives? This is a deal breaker for me. When I go into time machine after my latest backup, the shared airport drive doesn't show up .Am I missing something? Can time machine back up anything connected to the AEBS?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy old iMac G5 PowerPC finally had its day -- the logic board died on me. Instead of spending $900 on a new logic board, I decided to purchase a new intel based iMac.
I used Time Machine to back up my data on my G5. I obviously want this data on my new iMac. However -- I don't want the old applications (like iLife 06, etc etc.). I would obviously like to keep the new applications (like iLife 09).
So I guess my question is this: If I do a full restore, does that only do my files or does it include all my apps from my G5?
If it includes the apps, is there a way to do a piece meal restore to only get the files I want (music, photos, videos and documents)?
I just today bought a new iMac to replace my old one. When I powered the new one on for the first time, I told it to restore all data from the Time Machine back up from the old machine. That all worked fine. However, when I set the time machine drive as the new machine's time machine drive, it does not recognise the existing backups i.e when I launch time machine, I can't go back through time.
Does anyone know how to get a new machine to reference old time machine backups?
I use Time Machine with an external western digital hd, and I've just ordered a second one so I'll also have an offsite backup. I plan to back it up once a week and leave it in my car. Rather than doing a fresh backup onto it every week, can I use it as a second Time Capsule?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a 6 month old top of the line iMac. I always can tell immediately if Time Machine is running b/c the computer becomes choppy. This lasts for the duration of the backup. It is most noticeable when I move my mouse. The mouse starts to act jumpy rather than gliding. In activity monitor it shows during the backup that I still have 50-80% idle so I don't understand why I take such a performance hit. I do backup wirelessly to a Time Capsule. Is this the issue? It is often backing up large amounts (though I'm not quite sure why). I'll download about 100MB of pictures and it will do an 800MB backup.
I just can't shake the feeling that something isn't correct. I've noticed this back on regular Leopard and now on Snow Leopard. Apart from this issue my iMac works perfectly. Please let me know if others see this or if you have any ideas what the problem is. Also, if I can't fix this, is there anyway to slow down Time Machine backups (without hacking type stuff) so it only runs once or twice a day? I really don't need hourly backups.
I was trying to set up my Time Machine to an external hard drive. I didn't continue because it asked to "initialize" the hard drive which I had a lot of important things on.

(I also had a faulty 500GB G-Tech portable which had to be replaced.)For many reasons, my iMac's Time Machine backups have to be stored on an external hard drive rather than on our Time Capsule. Two or three times in the past year or so, the external h.d. has become corrupted or something and has had to be reformatted, losing all the previous backups and starting all over again. This time, since the external h.d. is toast, I have no backups at all.

My problem is time machine now says I don't have enough space for a backup. The iMac has a new hard drive so I am not sure what is going on. I could always Format and restart TM but I am not real happy about trying that. It will be may last resort.
