View 10 RepliesI have just installed a Lacie Thunderbolt external drive as I want the speed to access large volumes of photographs. If I configure it as RAID 0 I will need to back up the data on that drive. I have a NAS drive which I already use for Time Machine and which works well. Can Time Machine be configured to include the external drive in the backups to the NAS?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Time Machine under Mavericks. When I looked at my Time Machine Backup files, I could not find the mail boxes in the appropriate Application support folder. It should be under Library/Application Support/Postbox/Profiles.I am also running Carbonite and have my POP mail accts getting backed up. I should have my email set up as a IMAP. I tried to go that route and after three weeks of dealing with my provider (and level 3 support) they informed me they could set it up for me for another $50.

Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." Initially I was trying to upgrade - didn't work. Was unable to boot into anything. Erased HD still didn't work. Verified disk etc., before installing. Machine patched up to date. Running IMac core 2 duo gb ram.

I went into the dock package contents and change the finder icon and trash empty and trash full. I deleted the cache, killed the dock, even rebooted yet it always defaults back to the original leopard icons. If I go back in to the package contents, the new icons I want to use are in there. Having the same issue with all the icons that need to be changed via package contents. System Preferences, VMWare Fusion, and the ones above.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been working with iMovie 5.0.2 lately to splice together clips of historical shows that I have on my computer. It is great for cropping them to the right moments, but I find that it takes forever to import film and then to share a movie, not to mention the unwieldy size of the final product. I learned the trick of dragging the clips directly into the media folder of a project, but I still have a problem with exporting the final product. It takes forever, and unless I choose a format exceeding a gigabyte, the quality is rather poor.
On to my question: in the package contents of an iMovie project, there is a folder called Shared Movies, then a subfolder named iDVD. I have found a high quality format of my movie there, and it is much smaller in size. While I have noticed that it relies on the individual clips in the Media folder, I can't help but think that its size would be much smaller overall if I were to somehow free it from relying on the clips, as the size of the entire project is under 300 mb. Any suggestions on how to get this movie free of the other clips?
I have had so many problems with my main account in snow leopard. I created a new account and moved my files over to my new account and thought i was in the clear. However, some photos seem to be missing from my iphoto library. (i have no idea how the hell that happened). so i have to go into my time machine hd to try to retrieve them...
HOWEVER... now even when i log in to my old account I CANNOT ACCESS MY TIME MACHINE HARD DRIVE. It says "the folder "Time Machine MacProDitchey" can't be opened because you don't have permissions to see the contents. "
When i go to time machine's info, all the privileges read "Custom". I cannot change them to read/write..
Is their a way to edit Time Machine contents, I tried manually by going through all the folders and tried deleting files, but it won't let me. So is their some way of deleting the contents?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problem with my Time Machine. When I restore a folder thats full of other folders, and files. Time Machine just restores the top level folder without it's contents.
And sometimes when I restore a single file, it asks for my admin password.
I've repaired permissions across both my external HD and my internal one.
I've re-installed, and restored the OS, from a back-up.
Problem is that, Time Machine works fine for other accounts.
How to copy your Time Machine contents to a new larger Time Capsule drive ? I have three Time Capsule , two new (3 and 2 TB) and one old (1TB) contaniing all my backups. Only the 3TB have WiFi enabled, the other two are using ethernet only. my Macbook Pro are using ethernet only. I want to migrate from the old 1TB to the new 2TB for backup and other contents. Problem: my Time Capsultes dont show up in Disk Utility.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my inbox, seems its corrupted in some way. I can see the headers, but no contents, cant delete or move message. All other folders seem OK. Its from a POP3 mailbox where the originals are deleted off the server when downloaded so I'd prefer to try and recover it but I can live with losing the contents if necessary. Any ideas? Is there a tool or way to repair? I have Time Machine but I doubt the TM backup will have caught these files between them being downloaded (they came in one batch) and being corrupted as it was only a few minutes. Not sure how I could tell if TM did catch them either.
Update; Impressive, TM did recover them, now I just need to work out how to empty the inbox of the corrupt messages. Worst case I can create a new email account but I'd rather not as configuring it was troublesome.
Second Update; Mailbox > rebuild, then move the messages from the TM mail recovered folder back to inbox.
I am trying to install my time machine backup. But as I open the backup it says
:The folder “Documents” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents.
I did get the info on the file to unlock it but still it gives me a no entry sine. How do I install my backup to my new mac when this backup can't be opened?

I've got an external drive that was a Time Machine backup drive. It's at the police station as evidence for something and they will not let me take it back. However, they will let me come down and make a copy of it. I might only have one shot at this so I'm trying to think of the best way to do it successfully and quickly.
Can I just bring another external with me, my Macbook, and then copy the files from the Time Machine backup external drive to the other external drive? If so, what is the facility for doing this quickly? I'm kind of new at Macs and am unsure. I do not have an extra Mac that I can simply use Time Machine to restore to to replace it's contents.
I upgraded to Lion and now my Time Machine does not work. When I connect the disk it starts and then shuts down. It does not show neither on desktop or on Time Machine. I hate the thought of reinstalling Snow Leopard but..

I have thousands of folders with images. I previously worked with ease in Windows because Explorer allowed me to view the contents of the folder without opening the folder. I could view and select in seconds.
Does Mac not have this capability that is found in Windows explorer? Do I need to set some permission in order to view the contents? I'm mystified as to why this isn't a set feature on the Mac. How do I get the contents of a folder in Mac to show *without* tediously opening up each folder?

I've just bought the new Airport Extreme Base Station last night. I set up everything just fine. I've set up an external HD to the USB port and got it to work fine so far in terms of file sharing and reading and writing. I also have a dedicated Time Machine external HD attached to my MBP USB drive.Does Time Machine backup shared airport drives? This is a deal breaker for me. When I go into time machine after my latest backup, the shared airport drive doesn't show up .Am I missing something? Can time machine back up anything connected to the AEBS?

I Just reinstall the MacBookPro from zero, without Time Machine, because some App was making a mess. In this new installing, my mac have another "machine name" and "HDD name" because I can't remember the old ones, so the Time Machine don't recognise the bucks-up, When I enter from Finder in the disk of TM, I see all the backups and files, but when I enter from the App TM, It's Clean.
So how I can "Rename" the TM Bucks-up so I can restore only the file that I want not all ?

Its telling me "back up faile" and that I need to delet files to free up space. It clearly says in the preference panel that "oldest backup are deleted when disc becomes full. I'm pretty tech savvy and it looks like the Time Machine optiond are pretty simple. Why wont this just continue to save the latest backup over that last one? I dont need a history of backups. I just want to have one back up that I do maybe monthly.

I just upgraded my OS from 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to 10.9.4 Mavericks. My iMac has a 500 GB HD & I was using LaCie 500 GB XHD as TM backup successfully for many years using FW800. I removed the LaCie XHD & will save it in case I ever need those Snow Leopard backups. I bought a new, 2 TB G-Drive to use for my Mavericks TM backup. I am planning to partition the G-drive into a 1.5 TB TM backup volume & a 500 GB volume to use with Carbon Copy Cloner.

we recently bought a new iMac with Mavericks and a Lacie 5big thunderbolt series disk. At the Lacie disk we configured as they were 2 hard dsik of 4 Tb each one and added to time machine. Today the user called saying that time machine only made 2 copies one general at 4pm and the other one at the second disk at 7pm and no more copies until 10pm.
I know that time machine makes copies every hour, every day , every month, etc; so we were thinking why it only made 3 copies in that mount of time and why it took the second disk. In the old iMac with Lion this never happened.
Can I create 2 partitions into portable hard disk where the first formatted as HFS+ to use only for Time Machine source, the latter formatted as exFAT/FAT32 to use to swap file from OSX/Windows ?
Time machine will use only the first partition as source, it's possible?
I need to link hard disk both to windows and to OS X systems, can I do it with these 2 partitions? FAT32 or exFAT?
