Why does Minecraft look like this on my iMac? Is my video card messed up or something? It all flickers and changes as I move and look around. And it's not the mods, it did this stock, before I install the MrMMods.
View 7 RepliesI just upgraded my MacPro1,1 to OSX Lion. At the same time, I was having some problems with my video card and replaced it with a NVDA,Display-B. It seems to be the same as what I took out but am getting some screen artifacts as well as windows jumping and distorting.

I just updated boot camp and when restarting teh entire windows went 8 bit. In the monitor conrol panel the computer recognizes I have an nvidia 8600N video card but when changing the resolution it won't take it. I press apply and nothing, it goes back to 640 x 480 and 256 colors.
I started the computer switching to the previous working system and I get the same result.
I just upgraded from on old iMac. Dealing with unhappy kids because the minecraft game they loved won't work on the new one. I've installed Java for Lion. I go to the minecraft site and try a single player game. We get application errors. I suppose its an older game that is not compatible with Lion, right? I see I can purchase a download for 20 euros. Should that work?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not a gamer at all, but I will be attaching a second 1920x1080 monitor to a new iMac. Does it matter for general purposes if I have 512 vs 1Gb of RAM in the video card? Will, I dunno, Expose suck on two HD monitors if I only have 512?
I do some infrequent video editing, and I have one specialized program (not video-related) that supposedly gets a boost out of extra video RAM (though no one has provided benchmarks on different setups.)
Can I update the video card on my computer?

I've had my 27" iMac (3.06GHz) for a few weeks now and yesterday I noticed some weird artifacts appearing on the screen, very randomly.
They will pop up all over the screen but if I "Show desktop", they will go away for a bit but sometimes reappear again in different areas of the screen. I restarted the computer but that only temporarily fixed the problem.
Anyone know what's causing this and how to fix it?
If I bought the cheapest iMac at base model right now, in a month or two could I buy more RAM for it? Then could I later buy a better video/graphics card and get that put in And could I have these things done by official Apple peoples. Not that I care much - I'd just like to know if official people do this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm selecting my wife's new iMac and I'm uncertain which video card to get. She uses Adobe CS3 professionally and will upgrade to Snow Leopard. But she doesn't edit video, watch movies, play games on her Mac. And her CS3 work seems not too heavy, since it still works well on a 6-year old dual G5 system. But I understand Snow Leopard has support for GPU acceleration. For graphic design work, are the GT130 or ATI 4850 worth the upgrade price over the GT120?

Its hard to explain, what it looks like so I was able to capture a video of it on my iPhone, it happens near the end of the boot cycle; Here's a link to the video; [URL:...] I've tried clearing the PRAM etc and no luck. The iMac will be two years old this August, I don't have AppleCare. Do you think the video card is dying?

The iMac had been left on overnight and when waking up in the morning I found the screen looking like this and now it continues to stay like this no matter what I do. Ok so I have a old Mac Performa 640CD/Dos that I am trying to to get up and running again. I had a monitor for it but it fell off the couch and broke. So I thought maybe I can use an adapter with it in order to use PC VGA monitor. Well after getting the first adapter and trying it, no luck, then I tried one that had dip switches on it. Tried 640 x 480, 800 x 600, almost all the dip switch combination with no luck on getting anything on the screen. Could it be that I might have a bad video card and it needs replaced? Or is this particular model not compatible with PC VGA monitors?

View 1 Replies View RelatedAm having a problem with the screen getting "messed up" is the best way that I can describe it. Happens with all different apps running but nearly always shows up when trying to edit a photo in iPhoto. When I make an adjustment there (like sharpening) the photo will turn all red and the system will lock up. This does not always happen, but just most of the time. In other apps, it can result in just messing up that page or the entire screen. I can replace the Graphics card myself if that is what the problem is but is there any way to test it before laying out the $250?

It only happens occasionally and is fixed with a restart and is really annoying. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Well I didnt' read the fine print and BAZINGA! I noticed that it comes without a video card.
So For video editing, watching hulu and youtube and netflix What do you guys recommend.

I see here that my Mac Pro (Early 2008) is compatable with:
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600
ATI Radeon HD 4870
It looks like in many cases there's two versions, and the mac version costs about 10x as much on ebay and in stores. Is that accurate, or is one of these models mac and pc compatable, and therefore the laws of supply and demand work in my favour?
(fyi: I just want the cheapest one, I don't do heavy GPU work)

How certain are we that (physical?) interference between the airport card/wifi and the graphics card can be cured with a download, and not actual hardware fix/repair? I mean, I know technology is advancing rapidly, but I'm not sure I can believe that a download can solve the issue that the 4850s are experiencing.
