Windows On Mac :: Boot Camp Update Messed Up My Video Card?
Mar 8, 2009
I just updated boot camp and when restarting teh entire windows went 8 bit. In the monitor conrol panel the computer recognizes I have an nvidia 8600N video card but when changing the resolution it won't take it. I press apply and nothing, it goes back to 640 x 480 and 256 colors.
I started the computer switching to the previous working system and I get the same result.

In retrospect, I should have ignored it when Apple Software Update told me about the Boot Camp 3.2 upgrade for my 2006 Mac Pro running x64 Win 7 ultimate. When I ran it, it overwrote my blue tooth driver and my keyboard stopped working. Thanks for the folks at Mac Rumors forums, I was able to go through the procedure to get it working again, and I also had to update the video driver (again) from ATI for my 3800.
So then I decide to reboot into MacOS and discover that my icon for selecting the boot disk was gone, not to mention any directory or programs in the start menu. This happen to anyone else? Do I have to downgrade to 3.1 or does anyone have a recommendation to get 3.2 working?

Being a history enthusiast of that era, I've been waiting for Empire: Total War to come out for quite a while. I'm also a bit of an enthusiast as well and would really like to get a new iMac. I'm just wondering if anyone out there is playing E:TW on an iMac with Boot Camp and how well it's been working. Any particular video card recommended over the others?

Apple's default audio drivers (for Windows) for the built-in speakers on the iMac make them sound horrible, they have way too much bass, whereas in OS X they sound great. Why is this?

Installed windows 7 today (geniune copy) to play the Star Trek Online open beta, managed to download and install it, but when I go to play it, it crashes. Went to performance information and tools and under graphics it says: Total Memory Not Detected and everything is 0MB apart from display adapter which says 6.1.7600.16385 and monitor resolution.
I have a 24" iMac 3.06Ghz with 8800 graphic card. Few weeks ago I had windows 7 installed for dragon age, ran like a charm, but I got rid of partition (dont ask why)
yes I have installed the bootcamp drivers!

I think my video card died about a month ago and I've been trying out some cards with no success. Here is a previous thread I made about it:
[URL]
I just got the second card I'm trying today: ATI X800 XT AGP, and my computer will just sit at the grey apple screen with no wheel spinning. I'm assuming this is a driver issue (or something much worse)! Since my computer will not boot, I have no idea how to update the drivers for this card.

"Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used: You must update your computer's boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant"."
That's the dreaded message I get every time I try to use boot camp 1.2. Unfortunately my firmware is already updated, and any attempt at updating my firmware (again) results in the message that I "don't have to update my firmware."
I've google'd this problem numerous times, but I have yet to find a solution.

I installed Bootcamp on my MBP using the Leopard DVD which came out last Fall. Since 10.5.2 has been out, I suppose that there have been updates on the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows. Anybody knows how to get and install the latest drivers?

I'm planning on installing Windows 7 RC via boot camp when it comes out, but I've lost the Leopard disc needed to install the drivers. Apple's website has Boot Camp Update 2.1 for Windows Vista 32. will this work, in other words, does this have all the drivers needed for the installation?

i have 4 gb of ram, and would like to increase the shared video memory in windows 7, that i am using via boot camp. i know you can do it using the bios, but because there is no bios, is there any program that emulates the bios for boot camp, or another solution to do this?
then, why does windows 7 read just 3 gb of ram, when i have 4?

Why does Minecraft look like this on my iMac? Is my video card messed up or something? It all flickers and changes as I move and look around. And it's not the mods, it did this stock, before I install the MrMMods.

I did a problem free install of Win-doze xp pro sp.2 via Boot Camp and all was well, everything went off without a hitch... However I only partitioned 35 GB for Win-doze which after some thought I realized that having installed windoze for the sole purpose of playing games (which require alot of space) Anyway, I played a few games like "Crysis" and "The Last Remnant" both worked fantastically but I didn't want to get too far in them just to have to re-do the boot camp later and lose the data, so I went ahead and uninstalled the windoze partition and proceeded to go through the motions again, However this time around I set aside a 200GB partition. For some reason everything seemed to take MUCH longer, or instance it sat on the "restarting computer..." screen for 5-10 minutes, finally restarted then windoze loaded and went to the collecting information;Dynamic update;preparing installation;installing windoze

I have an 8 Core Mac Pro with the NVIDIA GeoForce 7300GT video card and I was wondering if I should update the driver? I am running Vista Business 64bit through bootcamp. When you go to nvidia site there is no driver update for mac os but there is for vista 64bit. But I am afraid that if I update the driver for vista it might mess it up when I am in Leoapard?

I was going to install Windows using bootcamp, but stopped before I finished. Now when I turn my macbook on, I have to hold the option key down and select Macintosh HD or nothing happens. I have used the Bootcamp Utility to partition my hdd back to one, but the boot options are still messed up. How do I fix this to automatically boot into OSX?

In my attempt to install Windows XP via Boot Camp, I accidentally inserted an SP1 disc instead of the SP2 disc that I have. The installation proceeded to the point where it does for most who attempt this: the screen where you are prompted to press ENTER. I could not proceed and therefore restarted the iMac and held down the mouse button upon start-up to remove the CD.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM:I can not boot into OS X because the keyboard shortcuts (those that might allow me to select which partition to boot from and/or reset PRAM) seem to be disabled. Instead, a reboot always ends at a black screen with a blinking DOS-esque cursor, or the prompt: "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."
I have attempted inserting my SP2 disc at this point, to no avail. My keyboard seems to be disabled, as if the SP1 install proceeded just enough to establish itself as the boot drive without drivers for the keyboard. I've tried using all 3 USB ports, disconnecting other USB devices. Oddly, my bluetooth mouse works to eject the CD on reboot...

I've a mid-2009 Mac Pro and just saw the new nVidia GTX470-based cards. Awesome card.
Using Boot Camp and Win7, is it easy to rig that card to work?
(I'd put back my ATi card for when I need OS X or use my MacBook Pro for Mac-centric work...)

I've got a 2008 Mac Pro with 4 internal hard drives that are in a 0+1 software raid. Unfortunately, this prevents me from using Boot camp on any of these drives.
I'm curious, is there a PCIe card that adds eSata ports that would allow me to put Windows XP on an external enclosure that is bootable?
I've been scouring the message boards and forums and have found cards by CalDigit, FirmTek and Sonnet, but I have no idea if any of these will support with Boot Camp/Windows.
I'm not interested in using the on mobo SATA ports because A) they aren't recognized in Windows, and B) I don't want to put a drive up in the CD drive bays (because of the bad airflow).

Can you just install a vanilla PC raid card into a MP, stripe a few empty drives in a RAID 0 config, and make OS X ignore both the RAID card and the NTFS striped drives when switching to and from Leopard?

I have an '08 Octo 2.8.
I created a Boot Camp Partition (an entire drive, actually) and installed XP. The install went off without a hitch ... Except, having rebooted to Mac OS X (10.6.1) there is no way to boot Windows again. Going to Preferences->Boot Disk shows no Book Camp bootable drive.

This is the 1st time i got a Mac , i bought a black Macbook 2.4GHz some days ago .
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate using Boot Camp , and all went smoothly .
Only 1 prob is when restarting , i have to wait too long for the Windows to log on , i think about 1min with the black screen.
And if i want to boot in Mac OS , i have to push down the D button or the Alt, it takes quite a long time too .
So do you guys have any solution to this problem ? I want to get rid of the waiting time, way too much.
And do you know how to make my Macbook jump right in the choosing section when it starts ? ( so that i dont have to push down any button when it starts )

I have been trying to install Windows 7 (yes, legit copy) to my Macbook Pro the whole day, but I keep on getting this error message saying "Press any key to boot from cd or dvd . . . ."
When I press any key on the keyboard, nothing happens. I know this copy works because I've tried this on VMWare 3. (I'm going to Boot Camp of BIOSHOCK!)
What I've Tried:
Deleted partition, recreate partition and choose the Windows 7 disk as startup disk.

Have the new 15" MBP with i7 Processor. I had another MBP with a 7200RPM drive and installed drive in the new i7 Mac. Computer was working fine until I installed Windows via Boot Camp. I can't boot to the Mac Partition any more, the partition is there but when you try to boot to it you just see the Apple logo and NO circle. I cannot boot to the install CDs or a bootable external drive. I target disk mode the computer and used another computer to boot using the drive in the i7 unit and it's fine and I can see all the information. I tried booting the i7 into single user mode and saw the following message:
efiboot loaded from device: Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|1)/Ata(Primary,Master)/HD(Part 2,Sig********-****-****-****-************)
boot file path: SystemLibraryCoreServicesoot.efi
.Loading 'mach_kernel'...

I just installed Windows XP to a Boot Camp Partition on my MBP. However, rebooting is a hassle and naturally I want to avoid doing such as often as possible. I think running Parallels Desktop would suit my needs quite well. But here's the catch: I want to be able to use one partition to serve both of those needs. In other words I want have the option of booting through both Boot Camp or Parallels.
How would I go about doing this? I already have a XP installed via Boot Camp. So if there is a method where I don't have to reinstall, great, but I am fine with deleting stuff.

I just purchased a new iMac (2.66 c2d & 4gb of ram), Parallels 4, and Windows XP. I would like to get great performance whenever I use Windows XP and would like to know which installation procedure would help accomplish that.
Would Parallels provide me with a better user experience by installing Windows directly via Parallels OR by having Parallels utilizing a Boot Camp Partition? Which is better and why? Also, how much memory should I allocate to Parallels/Windows XP?
