Mac Pro will not start up, boots half way then shuts down?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAt the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI started up iTunes, checked my email, and looked up to see the top half of my display drop about 15 shades darker than the bottom half! I called Apple Care who told me they had never heard of something like this before and advised me to call the nearest Apple Store. I did, and like Apple Care, they had never heard of this happening.
View 16 Replies View RelatedSuddenly yesterday when I powered mi iMac I had some horizontal green bars on the startup screen then it powered normally. But it happened two times, now every time I power on my iMac the screen stay black, and i can use my computer, everything else is working normally (i still can use Alfred to turn off my computer).
I already tried resetting the Command+Option+P+R, it didn't work. Also the Safe mode.
I have a mid-2011 27' iMac. EMC 2429.
I am fixing this 2007 iMac for free for an autistic child. Apparently, changing computers for someone that is autistic isn't ideal. I don't have the history with this iMac, just that it isn't working. They supposedly did have the hard drive replaced? It sounds like a dvd is inside it when it starts up, could be the installation dvd?Either way, I have not seen it before where the Apple logo refuses to show on the start up screen. It just stays gray.
1. I've tried zapping the PRAM. Didn't have any changes.
2. I tried starting up in safe mode, but getting passed the apple logo is required for that
3. I tried single user mode, but getting passed the apple logo is required for that
4. I tried holding the c key to start up off of the dvd, nothing happens
5. I tried holding the mouse button (and cmd, opt, f, o) to manually eject the dvd during start-up.

Odd stufff, I have a 500 gig Lacie ext HD that my user uses on her Vista machine...
I am setting up a replacement for the Vi$ta machine, which is a 24 inch imac.
I plugged in the ext HD and nothing happened after I powered on the ext HD.
I checked disk utility and it showed up but as a 2TB size ext HD...
I unplugged the Lacie and plugged it back in and all the info showed up correctly.
But ALL the buttons under "First Aid" are greyed out so I cant verify permissions, disk, or repair disk or permissions.

I have a MacBook Pro with the 9600gt in it. Since updating to 10.6.4 this morning 2 times while playing java games i've had the bottom half of my screen go black and most of the top half flicker. I've had to hold in the power button and reset both times. The second time I closed the screen and reopened it, the screen was black but no mouse and nothing moved.
Any advice? Would this be something to do with my graphics card or possibly some error in 10.6.4?Edit:: This is software related to 10.6.4 update and only happens when I open up a java game in a browser.
I just bought it for 100$ no software not even a keyboard I have it networked with my pc is there a way I can get in there or install linux since osx seems not to work
View 18 Replies View RelatedI took apart my IMac G3 today (2 times once to put in a new hard drive, and another forgetting to put a jumper inside) once I sealed it back up and put the powercable in, nothing, no chime, no noises, no light. I've took it apart another 3 times now looking for loose connections
but there all in.
... and once started I then have to do a restart as the screen misbehaves by erratically scrolling between the desktop and the Launchpad. A real time waster!

This problem started after a power surge a few weeks ago. The surge protector fried, but seemed to save the computer in the process. Symptoms are:If the Mac goes to sleep, the fans eventually go in hyperspeed mode and it's impossible to wake.Boot time is over 6 minutes. 1.5 minutes on the gray Apple, then 5 minutes on blue screen. In verbose mode, I get some IOKitWaitQuiet error just before the blue screenI repaired permissions, checked the disk with Disk Utility, and zapped the PRAM. Here's the console report of a restart. The blue screen was between 8 and 8:05.

Allright, I have a 24" iMac. 3.06 Core Duo 2 4GB RAM etc etc.
Just now, as I was innocently talking to a friend using iChat, the top of my screen flickered once or twice and then went dark. I am typing on it now, so it is not unreadable, it just looks like the back lighting has gone off on the top half. The middle is relatively light (bleedover from bottom back light?). I have tried playing with the hinge to no avail. After I reset the computer, cleared pram-nothing. Zippo. I got the top to stay lit for about a half second after reset, but it then flicked off again. Do I need to load up my iMac and drag my ass to the Apple Store (it really is quite a task to drive there)? Here is a horrible cell phone picture (and no, the screen IS dark, that's not a shadow.):
I am trying to figure out why an iMAC does not boot properly. Model ECM 2133 Memory:1GB (only 1 module in one of the 2 available slots). Everytime I push the power button I only hear the chime sound and that's it. You can hear the HDD spinning but the screen is always black. I already did the SMU and PRAM reset and nothing changes.Keyboard is still unresponsive and the screen is black. Mouse light is responsive. I pluged the keyboard on another computer and it works fine. Sorry if I'm not doing something right but I am a newbie with MAC's
View 27 Replies View RelatedI have a feeling I need a new motherboard to replace my graphics chip. I was playing World of Warcraft last night when the entire computer froze and a pink grid came over the computer. Could not force quit. About 10 seconds later, Kernel Panic screen and I have to hard reboot. Every time I reboot the pink grid is still there and it kernel panics, does not get past the spinning Apple logo. I was able to hold down shift and get it to safe mode, and was able to back up my files that way. I also ran the Apple hardware test, but it said no problems found. I am typing to you now in safe mode on this pink screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI restarted my mac this morning after the time was broken (as far as I know, I cannot manually change it). When it booted, it booted normally. It logged me in (I am automatically logged in) then it threw errors at me. The 2 errors were from Steam and Skype, but none from the mac itself. Steam error: " Steam failed to load: *SteamStartEngine(0xbfffdea4) failed with error 1: Failed create pipe: 28". I forgot to record the skype error, but it was something to do with it not being able to find a file. At this point, the background is blue, I can see the top bar but not the dock. I then close Steam and Skype windows and the bar disappears leaving me with nothing. A blank blue screen. The dock wont come up.
I would take this to support, but they want a serial code that i cannot access because its not on the hardware and I cant access 'About this Mac" because it disappears.

Tried everything from archive and install (wouldn't read disk2 until the 9th try and ended up with 9 system folders). Then tried an Erase and Install. Still it refuses to boot. Get's hung up at the blue screen. Will only boot in safe mode. Now for the last few days even the startup chime is missing. Tried PRAM and NVRAM resets. no help. Won't boot from DiskWarrior boot disk either. Just hangs
