Intel Mac :: Left Half Of Screen Flickering - Now Showing Quite Darker
May 23, 2012
I have an iMac 27". The left half of my screen started flickering, and now it is quite darker than the right side (facing my computer). Do I have to bring it in to the store or is there a fix?
At the beginning of last year I bought a 3.2GHz 27" iMac. About a month ago I noticed that, within about 5 minutes of starting my computer back up from sleep the left half of the screen would flick and become darker than the lower half (about 4 clicks of the light button lower). Sometimes the screen will flick to become even darker than this (but usually it returns to the 4 clicks darker after a short while), and sometimes it returns to normal only to go darker again.
Since a couple of days, my screen (iMac 27" mid 2011) turns off. Also, half of the screen looks darker. Is it a hardware problem or maybe can be solved by software?
Switched the machine on today to notice that the left side of the screen is darker than the right. I have put the brightness on full to confirm this. Is it possible the LED backlight is failing?
When I turned on my computer this morning the display was off center and could only see one half on the screen and the other half was black and all the colors were off lIke all the things that are normally blue were a weird reddish orangey color.
My iMac is one of the late 2009 models (bought Jan2010). My screen has started to flicker over the past couple of days. I have the correct screen firmware.
My screen is continuously flickering ranging from quick lines flashing across various parts of the screen to the entire screen going black for a fraction of a second. This is now happening with more and more frequency. However, I do have a second monitor connected and the flickering is not happening on this screen (A Dell Screen). Is there a certain fix or should I contact Apple Care?
I have a MacBook Pro with the 9600gt in it. Since updating to 10.6.4 this morning 2 times while playing java games i've had the bottom half of my screen go black and most of the top half flicker. I've had to hold in the power button and reset both times. The second time I closed the screen and reopened it, the screen was black but no mouse and nothing moved.
Any advice? Would this be something to do with my graphics card or possibly some error in 10.6.4?Edit:: This is software related to 10.6.4 update and only happens when I open up a java game in a browser.
I started up iTunes, checked my email, and looked up to see the top half of my display drop about 15 shades darker than the bottom half! I called Apple Care who told me they had never heard of something like this before and advised me to call the nearest Apple Store. I did, and like Apple Care, they had never heard of this happening.
I just received my 21.5 inch imac refurbished. It is the 2011 model. I really like it, but the screen seems to constantly be adjusting brightness...Almost as if it is "flickering every 5-10 seconds. Â It is extremely annoying, and I think I will have to return it to apple. So another two weeks of waiting for a computer.Â
My Air's screen is slightly darker at the bottom (only on a few millimeters, but still). It only happens on a white/light background though (I don't have my dock at the bottom). In comparison, the screen of my MacBook has a very uniform backlight. Does anybody else have this issue?
I had so far been using it with screen brightness level set at 7 bars out of 16.But, since the past few days, I've noticed that 7 bars is too dark. I have to set the level at 9 or 10 bars to feel comfortable.Nothing else in the MBP settings or the environment have changed. I don't use any of the auto dimming features.I'm wondering whether it's the MBP or my eyes that are deteriorating.Has anyone experienced or heard of gradual dimming of MBP screens over time? Can anyone suggest causes for dimming?
If I view a pure white image it looks like maybe 1/4" has a slight gradient. The darkness in the right corner is a little more prominent and extends maybe 1/2" Anyone else seeing this on their 11"?
defective screen or this model is supposed to be darker. I have a 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (the last revision) and the new 2.4Ghz i5 MacBook Pro which I just bought today.I noticed the i5 screen is much dimmer, it is the same manufacturer but the model is 9CA4. The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro model is 9CA3.Are the 9CA4 models supposed to be darker or do I have a defective screen> I wanna know so I can go and exchange it
noticing that screen shifts left and right by about 1 to 2" and freezes temporarily during shift. curor still moves but unable to select anything. problem started after upgrade to lion on mid2010 imac.
When i am closing firefox or safari sometimes it leaves blurred remnants of the last image on the screen. If i click and make a window around the remnants irt will disapear but i am worried that maybe my video card is going.
I see since several months some shadows and spots on the top left corner of the screen. I've read in many threads that this is a known issue (defect I would say, since I never misused my iMac).Â
My question is:
is this defect recognized by Apple and do they fix it for free?
I was testing out the MBA 13" and 11" again. My main goal was to see how much faster Flash & SSD are in comparison to HDD. It's so fast at restarting and booting. However I noticed something strange. Both units had darker tint towards the edge of the screens. I know colour shift happens with TN panels, but not like this?
My 27" iMac, from the centre to the left side of the screen has a light grey shade whilst the right is normal, at times the screen flickers to normal then go's back to the light grey shade.
The bottom left hand quadrant of my screen has dimmed. Apple repaired this a year ago and the problem is back. My Applecare is expiring soon. What are my options?
Has anyone noticed a very slight flicker on their new MBPs? I have a new 13" and, every so often, the screen brightness dims and then brightens very quickly (happens in less than a second). The option for auto-adjusting the screen brightness is off so it's not that particular function. It's most noticeable on all-white backgrounds both on AC and battery power. Hard drive access doesn't seem to coincide with the dimming.
Thing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?
I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.
Model: PowerMac6,1 CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
and
the gfx chip is a GeforceMX4 with 32mb.
The display is a mode 9c27, manufacturer 610, serialnumber 00000, manufacture date: B84D7200.
I've had the new macbook air just two days now. Turned it on this morning, used it for like 5 minutes and the screen just started flickering, and the whole machine just froze on me! Had to do a system reset, but I'm a little concerned after spending over a grand on this macbook! Has anyone else experienced this? I'm actually thinking about returning the machine..
