Jun 24, 2014
Suddenly yesterday when I powered mi iMac I had some horizontal green bars on the startup screen then it powered normally. But it happened two times, now every time I power on my iMac the screen stay black, and i can use my computer, everything else is working normally (i still can use Alfred to turn off my computer).Â
I already tried resetting the Command+Option+P+R, it didn't work. Also the Safe mode.Â
I have a mid-2011 27' iMac. EMC 2429.

My tibook .867Ghz was working fine this morning, but now when I restarted it this afternoon, the colors are all off (lots of green and rapidly vibrating pixels in background). The computer works, I can run programs and so forth. There are no changes to the displays settings, still 1280x854 and colors "millions". When I switch to thousand or 256 colors there is no significant change.

New iMac at first of year has always locked up with green squares (1/4") randomly on the open window. I have to do a hard boot to unlock the screen. This may happen 5 or 6 times a day but I'm finding no pattern. It happens in any software, mail, internet browser, extra programs and only using what I need at the moment, including mail and internet, hasn't worked. I've run disk utility - repair disk and repair permissions multiple times to no avail. I've reinstalled the OS Mavericks and Adobe Creative Suite programs (Photoshop & Premiere Pro), no improvement. Â
I purchased a high-end iMac specifically to handle high-demand video editing needs. But this happens when checking email or browsing the internet too. Here's a listing of the system from a "Panic (system crashes) log" from the "Activity Report."Â
System Profile:
Model: iMac14,2, BootROM IM142.0118.B00, 4 processors, Intel Core i7, 3.5 GHz, 32 GB, SMC 2.15f2
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, PCIe, 4096 MB
Memory Module: BANK 0/DIMM0, 8 GB, DDR3, 1600 MHz,
[Code] .....

On my mid 2007 Aluminum 24" Intel Imac shows nothing but a white screen when powered on even though according to the diagnostic LED lights which are all powered on and green the logic board, video card, and everything else are speaking back and forth to each other perfectly fine. Does this mean the LED screen is bad or (from what I've read) is it a possibility the hard drive is bad? I know the optical drive is bad and will not spit out any discs. The #1 reinstallation disc for the OS is stuck inside right now. Before I order a new screen, inverter, and optical drive I figured I should ask in here to see if it is just bad hard drive or something else. Wouldn't the LED diagnostic lights tell me if the hard drive was bad?

In display in system preferences there is a tab with "Millions," "Thousands," and "256" colors, but 256 colors is dimmed. How do you set your MAC display to use 256 colors so I can play an older game?

What is the significance of the purple and green colours when I put music to my project? I am able to edit the "green" music but NOT the purple music. Is it possible to do panarama/photomerge in iPhoto?

I restarted my mac this morning after the time was broken (as far as I know, I cannot manually change it). When it booted, it booted normally. It logged me in (I am automatically logged in) then it threw errors at me. The 2 errors were from Steam and Skype, but none from the mac itself. Steam error: " Steam failed to load: *SteamStartEngine(0xbfffdea4) failed with error 1: Failed create pipe: 28". I forgot to record the skype error, but it was something to do with it not being able to find a file. At this point, the background is blue, I can see the top bar but not the dock. I then close Steam and Skype windows and the bar disappears leaving me with nothing. A blank blue screen. The dock wont come up.Â
I would take this to support, but they want a serial code that i cannot access because its not on the hardware and I cant access 'About this Mac" because it disappears.

Tried everything from archive and install (wouldn't read disk2 until the 9th try and ended up with 9 system folders). Then tried an Erase and Install. Still it refuses to boot. Get's hung up at the blue screen. Will only boot in safe mode. Now for the last few days even the startup chime is missing. Tried PRAM and NVRAM resets. no help. Won't boot from DiskWarrior boot disk either. Just hangs

I have a 3.06 GHz, 4 GB, iMac running 10.6.1. and I have a weird problem: while I was running Windows 7 under Boot Camp, during a simple task, my screen suddenly turned a solid shade of gray. Having no other option, I held the power button, turned off the computer, and turned it back on.
When I booted back to OS X, it happened again immediately upon opening iTunes. This time the color was solid black. Concerned, I turned off the computer, waited a moment and booted it back up in Safe Mode, where I currently have no problems whatsoever. From Safe Mode I repaired my disk permissions, cleared my caches, and zapped the PRAM while restarting my computer back into normal mode. Unfortunately the problem persists, this time my screen turning a solid shade of dark purple.
I'm going to call Apple Care in the morning, but has anyone heard of an issue like this? I searched the forums for a solution, but wasn't sure what terms to search for.

I own a 17" g5 imac and today I was just browsing on Firefox and all of a sudden the screen became checkered with thin pink and white lines. It is most noticeable on the menu bar and anything that is grey or white in color. It is not checkered on the blue background behind my desktop photo. I have an external monitor plugged in as well and the same thing is happening to that monitor.
I have a powerPC imac G5
OSX 10.5.8
1.5GB DDR RAM
ATI Radeon 9600
Here is a screen shot:
Haven't reformatted it yet. Hope there is a better solution. Purchased it used about a year ago. No warranty.

During the boot-sequence the screen of my Imac 27" flashes green (once), then returns to normal. This does not happen when I boot my Windows (Bootcamp) partition, so I assume this is some kind of OSX driver error. This started to happen only after I installed the latest patch (10.9.3). How to get rid of it ?

I have an old Dual 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 (aluminum tower). When it boots up, I get a message that the Date & Time are no longer correct. I go into date and time settings and reset them, however when I shot down and reboot later, the time has been reset to June 1969 or some similar date. Also, when the computer shuts down, it cannot be rebooted immediately. If I try to reboot it, I hear the fans start up and drives start spinning, but then they all seem to power down (a red light can still be visible inside. If I shut it down and wait 15 minutes, it will boot up fine, however the date/time has reset to 1969. Â
I have done the obvious things like replacing the clock battery and resetting the pram and smu, but still no joy. I suspect a hardware fault of some kind, but don't know what to try next.

early 2009 Intel iMac 24". OS 10.6.8.Â
Working in Excel today, I was highlighting groups of cells with color when the entire screen suddenly had a pale grey-green tint. Can still see colors beneath, but everything tinted (not just the Excel window, but the entire display). White, of course, is most dramatic. The Dell monitor beside it is fine.Â
I've recalibrated color a half dozen times (have always had to do that to get the Dell and iMac screens as similar as possible). It's impossible to get white on the Mac. Rebooted several times, including hard boot, zapped the PRam, ran Permissions Repair and Disk Repair from the startup CD. Installed Temperature Monitor to see if there's a heat problem, but I could not find normal temp values anywhere on the Web, so that was something of a bust. Temps attached below in case there's an educated set of eyes out there....Â
Ran some online tests, too, for color distortion, dead pixels, that kind of thing, but nothing reveled.Â
I've been all over the Web looking for some guidelines, but most posts at apple and elsewhere seem to focus on later-model iMacs with the yellow lower screen problem when new (It's not that) or panic screens of wild colors, stripes, and the like. This is just a grey-green tint that covers the entire screen, rendering whites grey-green and colors muddy.

I have a 30-inch cinema display and a Power Mac G5 (quad). Last night I was toying around by trying to boot an old 450 MHz G4 connected to my G5 via firewire ( I need to do some work on the G4 and it doesn't support my big display). So I connected it to my G5 via firewire target disk mode, then selected the disc (which has 10.2 on it) in the Startup disk preferences via System Prefs. Then I tried it and got a kernel panic. Alright, so it didn't work. Oh well. But now that everything is disconnected and my G5 is back to it's normal state (meaning the G4 isn't connected at all), when I start up, my display acts very weird. I get a few flashing colors blocks at the beginning, then it blacks out. Then when I login, it goes black again, then pops back on. So I'm trying to figure out what I did to my baby and how to fix it.

I have a late 2006 Macbook, and my dad has an early 2009 Macbook. I was comparing the two today and noticed that there was a significant difference between their LCDs. My dad's Macbook has a lighter, more normal display. While mine has a yellow tint to it and is darker. Both computers were on the same display profiles and both had the same brightness set.
Is this just how LCDs are as they age? Or is mine really not supposed to have that yellow tint? The new Macbook is on the right in the pic.

I tried booting up my Mac Pro, and it boots into a blank blue screen. I tried this several times, but no dice. Cannot boot into safe mode either. This happened about a month ago, and I did another reinstall. When I booted into my Apple Mac OSX Snow Leopard disk to repair, and it said everything was repaired.

A few days ago my macbook froze, when I did a hard reboot it boots to bluescreen. I've even left it up overnight just in case it was talking awhile.
Here is what I've tried so far:
-boot into safemode, holding in shift does nothing.
-Tried to run disk utility, it said something like it couldn't be done (forgot the exact message)
-reinstall the OS from cd, but holding in c causes it to reboot.
-holding option and clicking the cd to boot from causes a reboot also
-command-option-shift-delete does nothing
-Gone into single user mode done the fsck thing, also tried this [URL]
Starting to think the HDD is shot. Just noticed an error when I type in /sbin/fsck -fy it says "Incorrect block count for file pcscd.pub it should be 16 instead of 17. Not sure if that means anything. Was able to run disk utility now, no errors were found however it still will only boot to blue screen.

Just about 2 hour ago I put my mac on standby because I had to do some homework, but after I finished my work and opened up my computer, the screen was black. I then resetted the computer by holding the power button down but still nothing.
The computer makes all the sounds like it normally does, it does the chime aswell. However, when I close the computer up the front light isn't pulsating, its just glowing. While my computer's screen is black I can adjust the sound (it makes the noises) and I can adjust the backlit keyboard brightness, but it doesnt respond to trying to light up the desktop. I've tried to shine a light to the desktop but can't see anything.
I've tried looking at some similar posts, tried to reset it up by holding cmd+opt+p+r.. nothing works. I can't understand this... it was working just fine only hours ago
EDIT: after leaving it for 10 minutes, the front light started pulsating as normal again, but when I open it up, black screen still.

It's a PowerBook G4, 15" model A1046, and this is what's going on.
Powers on, checks combo drive, gongs, no flickering or lighting on screen, period.
Tried a PRAM reset several times but it NEVER gongs a second time. I tried booting to Open Firmware and typing mac-boot, blind, but nothing. The keyboard clearly works, as the caps lock light works.
The hard drive spins up, the fans run at normal speeds, so everything else is clearly functional.

I did a search but I would like to know why occasionally my 1.8 single G5 fully updated 10.4 boots up to a grey screen with a prompt> message says
to either type mac-boot (does not work) or shut-down (does work)
It happened at any stage since I bought it (second user) years ago since panther 10.3.. It even happens after repair and verify is checked.
It gets a lot of use maybe 6 hours a day so am I about to meet thy doom?
I can usually press the power button and boots ok but recently 2-3 times
to get going
I am considering getting more ram and leopard and want to find out whats causing this issue first?
