IMac (Intel) :: Had Green Colors During Two Boots Now Screen Won't Power On?
Jun 24, 2014Suddenly yesterday when I powered mi iMac I had some horizontal green bars on the startup screen then it powered normally. But it happened two times, now every time I power on my iMac the screen stay black, and i can use my computer, everything else is working normally (i still can use Alfred to turn off my computer).
I already tried resetting the Command+Option+P+R, it didn't work. Also the Safe mode.
I have a mid-2011 27' iMac. EMC 2429.
OS X :: Macbook Pro Boots With A Black Screen?
Aug 8, 2010Just about 2 hour ago I put my mac on standby because I had to do some homework, but after I finished my work and opened up my computer, the screen was black. I then resetted the computer by holding the power button down but still nothing.
The computer makes all the sounds like it normally does, it does the chime aswell. However, when I close the computer up the front light isn't pulsating, its just glowing. While my computer's screen is black I can adjust the sound (it makes the noises) and I can adjust the backlit keyboard brightness, but it doesnt respond to trying to light up the desktop. I've tried to shine a light to the desktop but can't see anything.
I've tried looking at some similar posts, tried to reset it up by holding cmd+opt+p+r.. nothing works. I can't understand this... it was working just fine only hours ago
EDIT: after leaving it for 10 minutes, the front light started pulsating as normal again, but when I open it up, black screen still.
PowerPC :: PowerBook Boots To Black Screen?
Sep 10, 2010It's a PowerBook G4, 15" model A1046, and this is what's going on.
Powers on, checks combo drive, gongs, no flickering or lighting on screen, period.
Tried a PRAM reset several times but it NEVER gongs a second time. I tried booting to Open Firmware and typing mac-boot, blind, but nothing. The keyboard clearly works, as the caps lock light works.
The hard drive spins up, the fans run at normal speeds, so everything else is clearly functional.
MacBook Pro :: Early 2008 Boots To Black Screen?
Oct 4, 2010I left my laptop on in my room while I went to the bathroom, and when I came out, I saw the message that told me I must restart the computer. The message froze the computer, so I shut it off by holding the power button and tried to turn it back on again, but it only boots to a black screen. I don't hear the loud hard drive noise, but I hear the fans. Without AC power but with the charged battery, the computer shuts down after a few seconds. The light on the button that opens the lid is dim-to-none when the lid is open and bright when the lid is closed.
I tried many troubleshooting methods discussed on this site, like removing and reseating the RAM and draining the battery, along with the things that the Apple website suggested, like resetting the SMC and PRAM, but nothing works.
I brought the computer into an Apple Store, and after the NVIDIA test was negative, the technician told me that the problem is most likely the logic board. I also took the computer into an Apple Authorized Service Provider, and the technician there said it could be the logic board, hard drive, or boot connector. He also said that there is a very slight chance that the graphics card could have caused the logic board to fail. He tried my computer with another battery and concluded that it's not the battery's fault.
The Apple Store is charging me about $330 for a flat-rate repair. Should I troubleshoot further using suggestions you may have or pay Apple for repairs? If I decide to have Apple repair my laptop, do I need to take it back into the store to pay the repair charges, or can I do it over the phone and mail the computer to Apple?
IMac (Intel) :: Black Screen On Wake - OS X 10.9.3
Jun 1, 2014This just started yesterday (May 31st). I keep everything updated as it comes out and nothing new has been installed in the last couple of days.
When I need I wake up my iMac (now requiring a keystroke or mouse press instead of just moving the mouse), the screen comes up black, but the cursor is there and moves around fine.
It stays black for a while (15 seconds or longer, but it feels like forever) and then it finally comes up completely.

May 7, 2008Middle of last month I bought a 20" IMac. Everything was fine up until about 1 week ago when the screen went black. I clicked on the mouse button several times only to have a password box pop-up. After filling in the response, all was fine.
Next, same scenario but the password box didn't appear any more. The only way to get the screen back was by a forced restart.
I turned off the screen saver, set the 2 controls in energy server to off, unchecked the box at the bottom left & put "auto login" to to on the Accounts window.
Problem continued.
Next move was to zap the pram, this was 2 days ago. The screen didn't go black but often asked for my pw. It's now back to its beginning phase which is a forced restart !!
I was told that it was due to Leopard 10.5.2 & am considering going back to 10.5.1

Jun 4, 2014I have a 27 inch desktop. Upon turning the computer on within seconds the fan comes on. Then it goes to a high fan. Then it goes to a black screen. Then it shuts off. Then if you click the mouse it will come back on. This cycle repeats itself every 5 seconds. Only one time in the past month did it turn on normally and run for me.

Feb 8, 2012I restarted my mac this morning after the time was broken (as far as I know, I cannot manually change it). When it booted, it booted normally. It logged me in (I am automatically logged in) then it threw errors at me. The 2 errors were from Steam and Skype, but none from the mac itself. Steam error: " Steam failed to load: *SteamStartEngine(0xbfffdea4) failed with error 1: Failed create pipe: 28". I forgot to record the skype error, but it was something to do with it not being able to find a file. At this point, the background is blue, I can see the top bar but not the dock. I then close Steam and Skype windows and the bar disappears leaving me with nothing. A blank blue screen. The dock wont come up.
I would take this to support, but they want a serial code that i cannot access because its not on the hardware and I cant access 'About this Mac" because it disappears.

Jun 18, 2009Tried everything from archive and install (wouldn't read disk2 until the 9th try and ended up with 9 system folders). Then tried an Erase and Install. Still it refuses to boot. Get's hung up at the blue screen. Will only boot in safe mode. Now for the last few days even the startup chime is missing. Tried PRAM and NVRAM resets. no help. Won't boot from DiskWarrior boot disk either. Just hangs

May 24, 2012I came back from work to wake up my iMac. It made the noise but the screen stayed black. I tried restarting by holding the power button- I can hear it start and the chime but still have a black screen. I tried resetting the pram, and unplugging the cord but I still get a black screen. I can hear the chime though; I'm not sure if that means anything. I just had the hard drive replaced in February so I hope it's not that. just wanted to clarify that when I restart, I get the chime but the screen stays black- I don't get to the grey screen. So I'm assuming right now that my display may be shot?

Jan 2, 2011Got me a Second Hand iMac g5 with OSX 10.6 on Screen is black. I changed Power Cable = no Result seen i opened and a thinny Cable from hard drive were not connected. I had to remove the Ram to do that,but no Result i opened again and found another thinny Cable from Broadband Socked comming out. I connected it but nothing happening i opened again with all Leads removed. I removed the Battery inside,pushed after 2 Hour such small Button inside,put Battery in Place,switched on and nothing happened. i pressed the power-Button twice,and on second Time the Screen went White and Fan blow as Hell,but stuck on that. I switched off and on and it was Black again. I disconnected the Lead and switched on after 5 Hour and nothing happens I removed Battery again,pushed after 2 Hour thinny black button inside and nothing when started With nothing happened i always mean "The screen is black",but the Start sound is and i hear a little Fan,and Keyboard reactes with Light on keyboard and with Ping on Computer if i push some Buttons.Mouse has light on Well. seems Screen works. I did not get the Software. It is Snow leopard on but i don't know if re-installing would help or if i need the Pack for 3150.- or what it cost. I also don't know if not Video-Card or logic board fails

Aug 4, 2009Let me start by saying I have swapped the ram in the computer and the problem persists. I've also tried resetting the PRAM. I have unplugged all devices except the keyboard and mouse. I have reformatted and installed OS X Leopard, Tiger and Snow Leopard. I have even encountered this issue while the computer was running from the install disk. I'm pretty sure software, ram and third party devices can be eliminated from the possible causes. The computer continues to run after the screen goes black. I am connected to it right now using screen sharing, so I know the computer is still working. Putting the computer to sleep and then waking it up temporarily brings the screen back until its next random blackout. I have opened the computer to replace a dead HD, so I suppose it is possible that I knocked something in the process, but I did that back in December and the problem is a relatively recent development. I would really prefer to fix this myself, if I could only figure out what the problem is.

Mar 31, 2010I have been experiencing some unusual problems with my imac. While on the internet today my computer crashed on me twice, the first time the screen just showed a bunch of vertical lines, the second it flashed some random colors then went black. After the screen change the computer was unresponsive. I have a bad feeling, is it due to overheating, a bad logic board or something else. This is the first time I have ever experienced this on a mac. Has anyone had any simiar issues? Or am I up **** creek? I can't really afford a new computer seeing that I just bought an iPad (it comes Saturday). I am not sure if my computer is still under apple care and even if it was I won't get it back by the time I have to go back to college. I attached a screen shot of my computer temps.

Apr 26, 2010When I turn my Imac, it goes from the white screen to a black screen, then blue and then desktop. The whole process is fast, but is not normal. (at least is not like my previous MBP or the videos that I have seen on youtube) At the black screen stage, I can see some boot up information, etc, It is fast so I am not able to read it all. It looks like when booting an old windows or dos machine How can I change this? Is this normal? It also shows the screen when I shut down.

IMac PPC :: G4 PPC Black Screen On Startup?
Mar 19, 2012I have been limping along for quite some time with a recurring problem with my PPC Flat Panel iMac G4.Sometimes when starting up I would get a black screen. The unit chimes at startup but the screen would stay black.I found that I was able to fix (temporary) the problem by removing the bottom plate and pushing the reset button under the base.(After shutting down and unplugging the unit.) after the startup chime, the screen turned gray with a folder icon in the center with a blinking question mark.After shutting down and restarting, this happened again 3 times.On the 4th shutdown/startup it went back to the black screen.Repeated shutdown/restarts have no effect.Shutting down, unplugging the unit and pushing the reset button is also having no effect.I hear the startup chime every time. Black screen every time as well now.
