I took apart my IMac G3 today (2 times once to put in a new hard drive,and another forgetting to put a jumper inside) once I sealed it back up and put the powercable in, nothing, no chime, no noises, no light. I've took it apart another 3 times now looking for loose connections
but there all in.
I recently got a cheap used 12 1.33 PB, that has worked great for a couple of months.Yesterday the PB shut off totally while in sleep mode. I couldn't power it back up at first, but was able to after I reset the PMU, and plugged the power cord in. The computer worked fine after that for the rest of the day.This morning, I noticed the PB shut off again during sleep mode. But this time, I can no longer boot it up. The PB chimes, but then nothing comes onscreen, and there's no hard drive activity (so I'm pretty sure its not the screen.)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a 15" powerbook and when you turn it on it shows the apple logo (grey screen) then when booting into Tiger, it shows a black screen with white text detailing drivers and things that are being loaded. Is there any way of switching off this black screen booting? I have even tried swapping harddrives and reinstalling Tiger but it still does it, so im guessing it has nothing to do with the Tiger installation / Harddisk.

-Reinstall tiger (erase and install)
-Replace CMOS battery (time now works correctly)
-Run Apple Hardware Test (no errors)
It's a PowerBook G4, 15" model A1046, and this is what's going on.
Powers on, checks combo drive, gongs, no flickering or lighting on screen, period.
Tried a PRAM reset several times but it NEVER gongs a second time. I tried booting to Open Firmware and typing mac-boot, blind, but nothing. The keyboard clearly works, as the caps lock light works.
The hard drive spins up, the fans run at normal speeds, so everything else is clearly functional.
My ibook has been working great and all of a sudden I have no display. It boots up fine, the eject button works, I can hear the volume if I turn it up or down. This is my second ibook and I really need this one to work! Its only 4 years old 800mhz,256,30GB. There are no apple repair places anywhere (other than the apple store) around here, so I'm not sure if there's something that I can do on my own?

The drive has some valuable data on it which I'd like to keep, and the iBook only boots for a few minutes each time (if I'm lucky).Is it just a matter of opening it up, taking the drive out, and taking it along to a computer shop who should be able to kit me out?

typing 'mac-boot' gets me to a white screen with black lines all down it. It just hangs there.
I tried zapping the PRAM but it didn't help. The hard drive has been making those *click click* 'I'm about to die' sounds for a while. I'm assuming its the hard disk . I have another iBook with a failed logic board I can take the HD out of but in case its not I don't want to take it apart just yet.
I have an iBook G4 which was working fine. A week ago my little sister used the laptop and now I have the following problem:
a) The laptop boots because I get the boot chime, but the screen keeps black.
b) I connected an external monitor to check if the problem was the laptop monitor. When I start the computer, I get a gray screen (in the external monitor), but no apple icon () and cannot pass from this gray screen.
c) I noticed that the caps lock light was not turning on, so I accessed the open firmware (keeping hold the power button - getting a weird chime and a light flashing near the case button - power chime ) and I got the open firmware screen (still in the external monitor) and I noticed that the keyboard was not working also! I connected an external keyboard (usb) and I am able to type.
I know I won't be able to use it as a normal computer because of this weird problem. I was thinking to keep it as a "desktop" with the external monitor and the external keyboard. My questions in this case are:
a) Is it there any way I can boot from cd from open firmware? (I cannot do the "keep the 'C' key hold during start up" because my laptop keyboard does not work.
b) Because I get the open firmware console, could this be a OS problem? What I mean is that if I reinstall the OS, could I at least keep using this computer as a desktop?
I just bought it for 100$ no software not even a keyboard I have it networked with my pc is there a way I can get in there or install linux since osx seems not to work

Symptoms are:If the Mac goes to sleep, the fans eventually go in hyperspeed mode and it's impossible to wake.Boot time is over 6 minutes. 1.5 minutes on the gray Apple, then 5 minutes on blue screen.In verbose mode, I get some IOKitWaitQuiet error just before the blue screenI repaired permissions, checked the disk with Disk Utility, and zapped the PRAM. Here's the console report of a restart. The blue screen was between 8 and 8:05.

Everytime I push the power button I only hear the chime sound and that's it. You can hear the HDD spinning but the screen is always black. I already did the SMU and PRAM reset and nothing changes.Keyboard is still unresponsive and the screen is black. Mouse light is responsive. I pluged the keyboard on another computer and it works fine. Sorry if I'm not doing something right but I am a newbie with MAC's
View 27 Replies View RelatedI have a feeling I need a new motherboard to replace my graphics chip. I was playing World of Warcraft last night when the entire computer froze and a pink grid came over the computer. Could not force quit. About 10 seconds later, Kernel Panic screen and I have to hard reboot. Every time I reboot the pink grid is still there and it kernel panics, does not get past the spinning Apple logo. I was able to hold down shift and get it to safe mode, and was able to back up my files that way. I also ran the Apple hardware test, but it said no problems found. I am typing to you now in safe mode on this pink screen.

Tried everything from archive and install (wouldn't read disk2 until the 9th try and ended up with 9 system folders). Then tried an Erase and Install. Still it refuses to boot. Get's hung up at the blue screen. Will only boot in safe mode. Now for the last few days even the startup chime is missing. Tried PRAM and NVRAM resets. no help. Won't boot from DiskWarrior boot disk either. Just hangs

I have a week 50 machine with the firmware update that flickers only when Snow Leopard is in 32 bit mode. If I boot into 64 bit mode (holding 6 & 4 as the machine boots) it does not flicker. Can anyone else confirm this?

But it happened two times, now every time I power on my iMac the screen stay black, and i can use my computer, everything else is working normally (i still can use Alfred to turn off my computer).
I already tried resetting the Command+Option+P+R, it didn't work. Also the Safe mode.

I hope I can get some help for a bizarre problem I'm having with my iBook G4 (1.2ghz). When I first got the machine (2004) I put in a 256mb Crucial stick and never had a problem. Recently (last 2 months?) I've noticed that a big slowdown so on a whim I checked my "About this Mac" and sure enough it only lists the stock 256mb. Is it possible for the added RAM to have just plopped out?

When I boot up, both plugged into the power cord, and on battery, the powerbook will reach a white screen with an apple logo in the center. There also is a rotating disk below the apple logo. It will then shortly power down. I made a visit to the genius bar, and they told me something was wrong. I was like DUH!!! They said for $320 it would all be fixed, but I was hoping to be able to find out what was going wrong with it. Sadly I don't have the start-up disk that came with the laptop .
View 24 Replies View RelatedI've got a 1.5Ghz PB G4 (128MB Radeon 9700 model), and it would appear that the DVD burner is no longer being recognized. It's out of warranty. I've opened it up and verified that the cables are all connected. I know it is receiving power, because it spins up when I tell the computer to shut down. Symptoms: disc in the drive does not mount, eject key does nothing, Disc Burning in System Profiler says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly.", disc in drive is not seen by Disk Utility, ATA in System Profiler only shows my hard drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 1.2 GHz G4 iBooks Firewire stopped working recently. Have tried zapping pram, reloading OSX etc but no luck. Fortunately USB is still working fine so I can still use my external 500GB hard drive, but I can't download video from my aging Sony video cam.
Any suggestions, other than chucking it and getting a new Macbook/Pro? (Which I plan to do sometime anyway, but would rather prolong the life of my iBook for the moment if possible)

My 1.67ghz, 15" high resolution, Powerbook seems to be broken. I use my laptop all day every day on battery power, and charge it through the night. Today, when I got home, it drew no charge from the adaptor. I have a backup iBook G3 which still charges perfectly off the same adapter, yet the Powerbook doesn't. I have left plugged in for about 45 minutes now, but still no charge, so the computer won't start up. I have a lot of important work on this computer, so I at least need some way of getting my data off it without ripping it apart to remove the HD. What should I do? I suspect that the power port in the laptop is somehow deformed, and thus is not making a connection. If this is the poblem, will it mean a new logic board?

service history: 3/10/2005 = repaired directory errors, charged clock battery, installed optical drive. action: Remove PRAM battery and it powers up. I like to tinker, and I'm recently out of work, stumbled upon a place with step by step instructions to take apart at <http://homepage.mac.com/sysop/PhotoAlbum13.html>. Followed those steps and removed the persistent RAM (PRAM) battery, put it all back together ( except for a few screws, oops! ) and it powers up, and seems to be charging the battery as an LED lights up now. Took it apart again and checked Hard Disk Drive connections, appears ok. Put the PRAM battery back in ( battery shows: 616-0144-A, match to slide 35 ) and now the system boots ok. Maybe resetting the connections got things going, maybe the battery needed a kick, who knows............
I recently replaced the video card on my G4 and now the USB ports on the back of my apple studio display are no longer functioning, but the monitor itself is functioning just fine. The USB ports on the tower are functioning normally.
