IMac :: Screen Turns Solid Colors And Freezes?

Sep 28, 2009

I have a 3.06 GHz, 4 GB, iMac running 10.6.1. and I have a weird problem: while I was running Windows 7 under Boot Camp, during a simple task, my screen suddenly turned a solid shade of gray. Having no other option, I held the power button, turned off the computer, and turned it back on.

When I booted back to OS X, it happened again immediately upon opening iTunes. This time the color was solid black. Concerned, I turned off the computer, waited a moment and booted it back up in Safe Mode, where I currently have no problems whatsoever. From Safe Mode I repaired my disk permissions, cleared my caches, and zapped the PRAM while restarting my computer back into normal mode. Unfortunately the problem persists, this time my screen turning a solid shade of dark purple.

I'm going to call Apple Care in the morning, but has anyone heard of an issue like this? I searched the forums for a solution, but wasn't sure what terms to search for.

PowerPC :: Can't Lower Display Colors Enough

Aug 12, 2010

I have a copy of Sim City classic, I tried installing on my MBP, no classic/can't lower the screen resolution low enough. I picked up a Power Mac 5500/225 from work, figuring it would do the trick. I can't get the graphics any lower then 256, the game wants 16! It also has a black and white game, but even after I turned the monitor to black and white, restarted, still didn't see it as two tone. I love the original version of the game, and even though I know people claim you can play on the Maxis site, they never send me a log in, no matter how many times I try

MacBook :: Display Colors Fuzzy - VGA Card?

Oct 22, 2010

I was given a Macbook 5.2 2009 Early, with nvidia 9400m because it has a little problem and the previous owner has taken another one. Basically, the display colors are fuzzy. I already tried the CTRL ALT CMD 8 but does not change much. I tried resetting the PRAM by holding down ALT + CMD + R + P at startup and waiting for the second sound before leaving, but nothing happened. I tried to re-install the operating system, but no way. I cannot try it on an external monitor, but using teamviewer this is the result, you see everything perfectly. The image also shows colors comparison. Could that be the display data cable? Display itself? VGA card?

MacBook :: Yellow Tint On Screen / Colors Of Screen Are Dark?

Aug 28, 2010

I have a late 2006 Macbook, and my dad has an early 2009 Macbook. I was comparing the two today and noticed that there was a significant difference between their LCDs. My dad's Macbook has a lighter, more normal display. While mine has a yellow tint to it and is darker. Both computers were on the same display profiles and both had the same brightness set.

Is this just how LCDs are as they age? Or is mine really not supposed to have that yellow tint? The new Macbook is on the right in the pic.

OS X :: Snow Leopard Ruined Colors On Non Apple Display

Sep 4, 2009

Okay, so I installed Snow Leopard on my parent's Mac mini and it has a Hanns.g display connected to it. In 10.5 Leopard, the colors looked normal (still not as good as an Apple monitor, but colors were close enough). Anyway, like I said, I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now the monitor's color is all out of whack. I tried re-calibrating it and everything. The weird thing is, I got the Finder to look okay, but all of the blue icons in the Dock (iTunes, iChat, Safari, QuickTime etc) look PURPLE! Also, the menu bar selections are the same purple color instead of that light blue. The other weird thing is... looking at the Finder icon in the Dock looks half purple and half light blue, but when I hit cmd-tab, it looks half blue and half light blue. The cmd-tab icon of the Finder looks like I'd expect it to look, but all the colors are completely destroyed in the Dock. Another thing is... scroll bars seem to look like normal blue too. One more thing... when I tried doing the manual calibration, it shows you how bright to make the monitor with the little graphic. The graphic looked so washed out that I couldn't make the monitor dark enough (on the darkest setting) to get even close to the picture that the calibration tool wants me to see. Is Snow Leopard only compatible with Apple monitors? I installed Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro (Apple Cinema Display) and all the colors are consistent. The colors look the same regardless of 2.2 gamma or 1.8 gamma, so please don't bring that up. I want BLUE icons... not purple!

MacBook Pro :: PhotoBooth - Display Flashes Quickly Into Different Colors

Aug 17, 2010

So I bought my MBP this past May and didn't have problems with it until now. I recently opened up my photo booth and noticed that the display flashes very quickly into different lightings/colors. It's very strange because the ceiling fan isn't on, and my MBP is sitting still. I've never seen this issue on anyone else's MBP either. I'm leaving for college very soon and don't want to leave unhappy with my MBP. If I visit the genius bar, will they give me a replacement with my one-year warranty?

Power Mac G5 :: Upon Start - Display Flashes Colors - Cuts Out / Goes Black

Dec 4, 2007

I have a 30-inch cinema display and a Power Mac G5 (quad). Last night I was toying around by trying to boot an old 450 MHz G4 connected to my G5 via firewire ( I need to do some work on the G4 and it doesn't support my big display). So I connected it to my G5 via firewire target disk mode, then selected the disc (which has 10.2 on it) in the Startup disk preferences via System Prefs. Then I tried it and got a kernel panic. Alright, so it didn't work. Oh well. But now that everything is disconnected and my G5 is back to it's normal state (meaning the G4 isn't connected at all), when I start up, my display acts very weird. I get a few flashing colors blocks at the beginning, then it blacks out. Then when I login, it goes black again, then pops back on. So I'm trying to figure out what I did to my baby and how to fix it.

Information:
Quad-core 2.5 G5
Mac OS X (10.5.1)
30" Apple Cinema Display

MacBook :: TV As External Display Suddenly Displaying Only Thousands Of Colors?

Oct 26, 2010

It's been a while since I've hooked up my MacBook (late 2008 aluminium) to my TV (Samsung LE40M87BD), to use the latter as an external display for watching a film. Tonight I did it once again, and to my dismay the TV was displaying only thousands of colors. Maybe even only 256, I don't know. It's not a changed setting in my TV, as I've looked through its menu and couldn't find any option that would force it to display the millions it's certainly capable of.

After seeing this weird issue, I opened System Preferences. I looked in the Displays preference pane, but since some years Apple allows no manual control over the color depth anymore. So no luck there. I tried restarting, but that changed nothing. It outputs a correct 1080p 50Hz (PAL) signal, but the colors are just all wrong.

How can it be that my MacBook always used to perfectly display millions of colors on my TV, but now suddenly doesn't? I'm using Apple's own Mini Display Port to DVI adapter, and then a DVI to HDMI cable, which always worked problem free. So it's not the cables, I think. It has to be something in the hardware or software. I'm hoping it's software, otherwise it will be a more serious problem. I haven't tried BootCamp yet, but will do so tonight, just to see if Vista will output millions of colors.

OS X :: Screen Colors Shifted To X Ray / Negative Like?

Jun 23, 2008

It seems that in his nasty habit of taking naps while resting a body part on the keyboard, he has managed to press some obscure key combination that has inverted the colors on my screen (like a color photograph negative). I've searched everywhere to try to revert this, but had no luck so far. When I restart, and/or log out and back in again, the screen is normal during the booting sequence till I choose the account I want to log in with, then it immediatly goes into "x-ray" mode. If I choose another account, it will boot and log in with no screen problem whatsoever. So this must be either a preference option has been changed via keyboard command or the account is corrupted. Right?

OS X :: Colors Of G5 Screen All Twisted With High Contrast

Dec 18, 2009

Today while working with an InDesign document it crashed and I had to reboot the hard way. After starting up again the colors of my screen was all twisted and strange. It's like a very high contrast/bad resolution. Except for the screen-issue the machine works fine. I tried changing setting in preferences/display (no. of colors, resolution and color profiles) didn't work. I then tried resetting the PRAM, which didn't have any effect either. I tried creating a new user and logging into the account - and it looked fine? It's probably just a pref-file that need rebuilding or the like, but I have no clue as to where that might be. I work on a G5 PowerMac with Tiger on it.

OS X :: Screen Resolution Gone Awry - Blocky With Bold Colors

Aug 1, 2009

Everything is very difficult right now as my iMac has turned into a print by that "15 minutes of fame" bloke. The screen resolution has gone completely strange and everything looks really blocky and boldly coloured... but only for one user. If I log in under my wife's account everything is fine. I've been through all the system settings a dozen times, and tried changing the resolution back to max and colours back to millions, but nothing helps. Googling for the problem doesn't find anything either. I've even tried a time machine restore of my area to earlier in the day, but that doesn't seem to help (although it won't let me restore my home directory, as the restore button is grayed out). When I switch users, the resolution jumps back to normal for a fraction of a second... just before I switch away to another user. A kind of "here's what you could have won" teaser. Likewise, when I switch back, all looks OK for a split second.

MacBook :: Screen Colors Faded (bluish Purple)

May 31, 2009

1. Today, I turned on my MacBook running 10.5.7 bought in the Summer of 2006 and the colors were washed out/faded. They were noticeably more bluish-purple. This is the third time it happened over the past year, so it is incredibly hard to replicate for a genius. A restart fixed the issue. I did not mess with the color schemes (I actually don't even know how to use them), nor have I dropped my laptop in the past three years I have owned it. Anyone know what is the issue here? I'm pretty sure it's hardware-related. I am concerned because my AppleCare is expiring this coming September, and I don't know how to replicate the problem.

2. Also, after a good period of nonuse, one-fourth of my screen (the lower left corner) is noticeably "darker" after I turn it on. The area goes back to its correct brightness after 10-15 minutes, like the screen has to warm up first. I've had this problem since I first purchased the unit but this dark spot has definitely gotten bigger. Is this normal for a laptop?

3. Coconut battery says that I have only gone through 4 battery cycles. I've calibrated the battery and the program still says the same thing. The battery I replaced quite a while ago did not have this problem.

IMac :: Pixelated Screen Display At Startup

Oct 30, 2010

I own an early 2008 iMac running Snow Leopard. A few months ago, it started getting a little buggy and running slow, you know, things you would expect from a computer that's now 2 years old. But then it started freezing and giving me "kernel panics". Of course, the first thing I did was install VirusBarrier and remove any and all viruses it could find, and I repaired the disk and disk permissions and ran all the diagnostic tests from the install DVD. Then I left it unplugged for a day, upgraded the memory from 2 GB to 4 GB and did everything a second time. After all that, everything seemed to work just fine.

Now it seems to be starting all over again! This time the virus scan only picked up a few Windows viruses on an old external hard drive and repairing the disk, disk permissions, and running diagnostics turned up nothing. I've done everything I know to do, short of taking the thing back to Apple! Right now, the main issue is this bug at startup that's really just freaking me out. Linked is a video of what happens. The apps that run at startup are BumpTop, HughesNet Status Meter (as of last month), and Brother Printer Utility. [URL]

It will open up a few tests and when finished make a new display profile, when your done constantly switch between your original profile and the calibrated one (imac calibrated).

You will see a huge difference in enhancement of the screen color lighting and adds more texture, you should look at your wallpaper when switching I chose the snowy mountain wallpaper from snow leopard and it really improved a lot.
