Windows On Mac :: AutoCAD 2010 Wont Load On Vista Through Parallels
Sep 3, 2009
I downloaded parallels 4 and set up a virtual machine with Vista (I couldn't get a copy of XP so I had to settle). I then installed an educational version of AutoCAD 2010, it installs and everything but when I open the program it begins loading until a point where it doesn't respond. I have reinstalled it, uninstalled it and installed it again, but the same exact thing happens each time. When AutoCAD stops responding it says this at the bottom of the screen:
Opening: C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalAutodeskAutoCAD 2010R18.0enuTemplateacad.dwt
I don't know whether that is relevant or not. I read somewhere that to run AutoCAD 2010 on vista you need 2GB of memory. With parallels the way it is I can only commit 1GB of memory to vista. I was wondering if it would work on bootcamp where i can devote all my memory to windows. Is it even possible to uninstall parallels and all that and switch to bootcamp? If thats even possible would I be able to preserve my copy of vista or would i have to get a new license?

I have a Macbook pro and I'm running windows 7 as the operating system. I just started using Autocad 2010 on this computer, and for some reason, the "delete" key doesn't delete anything when I press it. I tried to set "pickfirst" to 1 (checking the box of "noun/ verb"), but it doesn't help. Setting them both to <0> and <1> don't make a difference, both options don't "delete" the selected object.

I have been running Vista in Parallels 5 on my rev B 1.86 MBA SSD. Now I see version 6 is out and what is the opinion about the speed increase? Btw, I still run Leopard 10.5 on my MBA.

I was able to get Windows Vista 64 running on my 17" MBP, it is pretty slick. I set aside 32 GB for Windows, ran the install, loaded all the appropriate Boot Camp drivers and everything is working perfectly in Windows. I boot back to OS X to attempt to configure Parallels...
So I fired up Parallels and follow the guided instructions. However, when I get to step 2 Im not sure what I should be doing. I already have Windows on its own partition, but Parallels is asking me for a CD/DVD image. Im a little leery of putting the Win disc back in, I dont want Parallels to always want to boot from the disc. how do I tell Parallels to load Windows as a Virtual Machine off of the Boot Camp partition?
The partition Boot Camp created now appears on my Desktop in OS X as Untitled, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to change that. If I eject that volume will I still be able to Boot to Windows? Will Parallel still work?

I recently installed Windows vista using going through parallels because my bootcamp failed a while ago. This partition also acts as my bootcamp. Well The internet on parallels works fine because it is using osx network, but when i boot into bootcamp the network drivers seem to be missing. I cant figure it out, but it says the ethernet and network drivers are not there. I cant find the drivers on the internet anywhere and when i use the vista disk i have it still does not want to install them.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the Buying Tips sub-forum or this one, so Mods, please feel free to move it if necessary. With the new Mini updates today, I've started to seriously consider picking one up as a workhorse at home. My current computer is the 1.67 Powerbook G4 w/ 2G RAM, and for what I need at the moment, it runs decently; however, I can tell that its a 3.5 year old machine and it won't run everything I'll need it to.
So my question to you is this: would the low end Mini, which I would upgrade w/ a larger 7200rpm HDD and 4G Ram, effectively run Adobe CS4 and Parallels/VMWare Fusion w/ AutoCAD at a decent clip? I understand that its Apple's low(ish)-priced competitor, but keep in mind that I'd be coming from using CS (and obviously no AutoCAD) on an older G4, so any increase in speed coming from three and a half years of computer advancements would still be fast to me...but would they be fast enough for my programs?

I just ran my bootcamp partition for the first time on my newly installed Parallels. But when I ran it for the second time, the Win 7 loading icon no longer popped up. Instead, the Vista loading bars appeared and now appear each time I run Parallels, though Win 7 desktop will load up after the Vista loading bar.
Why is that?

I'm trying to run Boot Camp Vista through Parallels but i don't know how to set it up and can't find a guide anywhere. There's one in the settings but that skips over the most complicated bits. Anybody know of a guide for doing this or know how to do this?

I want to make sure I'm doing this properly. I recently acquired a Macbook Pro, along with legit copy of Win Vista. So here's what I did:1. Reinstall Mac OS X from scratch, then get ALL the software updates. Perfectly clean! Then installed the additional applications from the 2nd disk (Q1: Is that second disk what is called Leopard?)2. Backed up my Mac with Time Machine to my external Seagate drive.3. Used Bootcamp to create a partition, then install Windows Vista Home Basic edition on to it, then installed the Macbook Pro drivers, then got ALL the microsoft updates (which took forever).

I was given Parallels for Christmas (I asked for it...) to install on my new Macbook. I have a windows based cell phone that I wanted to be able to load music, calendar, etc and be able to work it with my Macbook. Curious to know what Windows OS I should get to load in Parallels? I won't be needing anything exotic for my job or anything, just basic Windows functionality. Been so long since I worked with Windows, don't know which would be ideal for me. I have seen 32-bit-/64, Basic, Premium, Windows XP or Vista, etc. Can anybody give me their best recommendation

I have been running vista64 through bootcamp and fusion so that I can run autocad on my late 08 MBP. The only issue I've had is that everytime I boot into vista I have to reactivate my autocad. It doesn't seem to matter whether I go in through bootcamp or fusion.

This is retarted. According to Apple when I got my new Macbook Pro, I shouldnt have any problem installing Windows that unfor tunately I need to run AutoCAD. I choose Bootcamp to use all the resources of my MAC. It didnt let me install it but did it with Fusion. How retarded is that. OEM disk SP2.Then I got to Apple store and explain the problem. Dude over there says it should work. Exchange my Macbook for a brand new one and lets try again. Now I cant even load the same disk with Fusion. I go back to the store to buy a case and ask the question again. Now the answer is...Bootcamp wont accept an OEM Windows disk unless you get a copy which was never use.

I have a 12" ibook G4, and my sister a 1.83 GHz MacBook. She says, she would be willing to help me, by giving me her MacBook in exchange for my ibook G4.My question is, is it worth it ?? Will it be fast ?? The only reason for this, is because I need to use Autocad on Windows. I mean, my ibook G4 is really great after three years

Quick question - I currently run Vista off of Boot Camp; is Parallels a fairly straightforward installation that then lets me launch Vista off of my Boot Camp partition, or do I need to reinstall Vista onto another (separate) partition for Parallels?

I have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.

Is it better for me to buy the upgrade for windows 7, from vista to windows 7 or to buy the full copy? If i buy the fully version, should i get rid of my pardon, and re-do it with bootcamp, or should i just do it over my current pardon? (Vista) I just want the best way, less pain, less anger. Im willing to pay more for full IF IT IS THE BEST way to do it.

I installed Windows Vista, and Vista boots up fine. However, I hold down the command keys when starting my computer up again, and it won't let me select Mac OS X. It just starts Vista.
On "My Computer" in Vista I see "Bootcamp (C" and "Macintosh HD (E in my Hard Disks Drives. Also, whenever I start up Vista it tells me something about a wrongly formatted drive. My files are still all in the Mactintosh HD drive, but I don't know how to start up Mac OS X.

Last night I installed Windows Vista to run a game on here, but I got several issues. I already installed the drivers from the Snow Leopard DVD, but the problems still persist.
The issues are:
1. Sound is very very low and uneven. I have the volume all the way maxed, but the loudest it can go is less than half than the potential volume in Snow Leopard.
2. Headphones don't work. I've tried like 3 pairs of headphones and none of them work. When I plug them in, the sound still comes from the left speaker (I can barely hear the right speaker) on the laptop and not on the headphones. Also, the headphone jack is emitting a red light out of it.
3. The lights on the keyboard won't shut off. I used the F5 key to turn off the keyboard backlighting, and while it goes very dim they won't shut off.
I already tried the suggestions on this thread but none of those fixes work. I need help! Especially with the sound! Anything at all would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running a MacBook Pro 13" from June 2009, 2.26GHz Intel, 4GB of RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce 9400M. I instlled a 64bit version of Windows Vista (OEM).
