I was given Parallels for Christmas (I asked for it...) to install on my new Macbook. I have a windows based cell phone that I wanted to be able to load music, calendar, etc and be able to work it with my Macbook. Curious to know what Windows OS I should get to load in Parallels? I won't be needing anything exotic for my job or anything, just basic Windows functionality. Been so long since I worked with Windows, don't know which would be ideal for me. I have seen 32-bit-/64, Basic, Premium, Windows XP or Vista, etc. Can anybody give me their best recommendation

View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I downloaded parallels 4 and set up a virtual machine with Vista (I couldn't get a copy of XP so I had to settle). I then installed an educational version of AutoCAD 2010, it installs and everything but when I open the program it begins loading until a point where it doesn't respond. I have reinstalled it, uninstalled it and installed it again, but the same exact thing happens each time.
When AutoCAD stops responding it says this at the bottom of the screen:
Opening: C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalAutodeskAutoCAD 2010R18.0enuTemplateacad.dwt
I don't know whether that is relevant or not. I read somewhere that to run AutoCAD 2010 on vista you need 2GB of memory. With parallels the way it is i can only commit 1GB of memory to vista. I was wondering if it would work on bootcamp where i can devote all my memory to windows. Is it even possible to uninstall parallels and all that and switch to bootcamp? If thats even possible would I be able to preserve my copy of vista or would I have to get a new license?
I have just upgraded to Windows 8 and I get the following message when trying to start Windows 8. I have an HP windows xp disc that came with the laptop. It's not letting me install it on Parallels. I am thinking because it needs to hard drives for it? One for windows xp and the other one for recovery. The laptop has drive C and D. How can I make it work on Parallels?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to re-install the OS on a MacBook Pro that i'm selling so as to erase all my data from it, however the Install Disc will not start up to run the Installer. I load it, press install, it says it has to Restart, i click ok and it then begins to restart but then just stops at a white screen. The disc drive goes quiet as well. I've tried just starting and holding C down as well. Same result.
Just wondering if anyone knows a way around this? Or is it probably a dodgy disc? It seems to be fine until it tries to start up from the disc.

I do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?
What is the difference between Parallels Desktop 6 Switch to Mac Edition and Parallels 6?
Is the speed the same for both?
I am using Parallels to run Windows 7 and am getting disk space errors. I think it only gave me 64 GB of disk space when I set it up. I'm not sure how to increase the disk space allocated to the Windows side of the machine. I use Finder>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility to shrink the MAC OS x partition, but when I get there I'm unsure what to do.

i'm abit ocd with stuff on my computer, so stuff like this really bothers me. i had parallels one my computer for a little while whilst i needed windows. now i don't i got rid of the partition and uninstalled parallels. but, .exe files and some other files still show the parallels logo, as if it wants to open them in parallels.
is there any way i can change this? i've removed everything i can think of in preferences, application support, startup items, receipts, etc to do with parallels but to no avail.
I have Parallels 3 installed, mostly to run MS Money. Last night I installed Snow Leopard, unaware that Parallels 3 is not compatible. It appears that I need to go out and buy Parallels 4 as that will work with Snow Leopard.
My question is will all my data within Windows remain if I install 4 or will it be a completely new Windows? And if so, how do I go in and retrieve my MS Money data as I can no longer access it with Parallels 3.

I would like to migrate windows7 Professional 32 bits from my existing Parallels desktop 7 VM for Mac where i have already installed Windows 7 and all my applications (of course, to avoid re-installing all applications, including license issues) to Bootcamp on my iMac 27" Quad-Core Intel Core i7 (2012)

I was planning on installing Win7 on it and using Parallels for the times I have no Mac option (specific games or apps).
Should I install it as a boot camp partition and then link it in Parallels or just do a clean VM install in Parallels? I'm curious as to what the experiences are and what is my best course of action when my machine shows up.

How to screen capture windows 7 via parallels using 27" iMac
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I insert a CD or DVD into my 27" iMac (early 2012) my OSX side doesn't recognize the disk, I can't access data or eject it. However, I can access the disk and its contents thru my Windows virtual machine (Parallels) so I know the drive works. Is this a Parallels settings issue or do I need to change settings/other in my OSX systems preferences?
