PowerPC :: Trading Ibook G4 For MacBook Worth - Autocad On Windows?

Sep 16, 2008

I have a 12" ibook G4, and my sister a 1.83 GHz MacBook. She says, she would be willing to help me, by giving me her MacBook in exchange for my ibook G4.My question is, is it worth it ?? Will it be fast ?? The only reason for this, is because I need to use Autocad on Windows. I mean, my ibook G4 is really great after three years

PowerPC :: SSD In The Ibook, Was It Worth It?

Sep 7, 2008

My G4 ibook (1ghz, 1.25GB RAM) has had it's second HD go on it, admittedly it is a 5 year machine now. However, I do like its form factor, and find that for typing notes in class it is ideal as on the lowest brightness and wifi off, I can get close to 6 hours of battery life out of a charge.

At this point I am considering simply going for a new Macbook, however they are a little larger, or perhaps a netbook of sorts, the new dell looks interesting and potentially trying to get OS X on it.

However, before I do so, I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with a SSD in the ibook, was it worth it? Where did you get the SDD (particularly useful if they ship to canada).

OS X :: Leopard On An IBook G4 Worth?

Oct 25, 2007

I have an aging iBook (1.33gHz G4, 1GB RAM) and I'm wondering if I should even bother upgrading to Leopard. I guess I should wait to see what other people's experiences are, but I'm just curious. Will Leopard take up too much of my poor iBook's resources? I don't even want to buy it if it's going to run much slower than Tiger.

Windows On Mac :: Bootcamp Program Activation - Run Autocad On MBP

Windows On Mac :: Need To Run AutoCAD Choose Bootcamp. It Didnt Let Me Install It?

Oct 27, 2009

This is retarted. According to Apple when I got my new Macbook Pro, I shouldnt have any problem installing Windows that unfor tunately I need to run AutoCAD. I choose Bootcamp to use all the resources of my MAC. It didnt let me install it but did it with Fusion. How retarded is that. OEM disk SP2.Then I got to Apple store and explain the problem. Dude over there says it should work. Exchange my Macbook for a brand new one and lets try again. Now I cant even load the same disk with Fusion. I go back to the store to buy a case and ask the question again. Now the answer is...Bootcamp wont accept an OEM Windows disk unless you get a copy which was never use.

Windows On Mac :: AutoCad 2010 Not Load On Vista Through Parallels

Dec 17, 2009

So I downloaded parallels 4 and set up a virtual machine with Vista (I couldn't get a copy of XP so I had to settle). I then installed an educational version of AutoCAD 2010, it installs and everything but when I open the program it begins loading until a point where it doesn't respond. I have reinstalled it, uninstalled it and installed it again, but the same exact thing happens each time.

When AutoCAD stops responding it says this at the bottom of the screen:
Opening: C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalAutodeskAutoCAD 2010R18.0enuTemplateacad.dwt
I don't know whether that is relevant or not. I read somewhere that to run AutoCAD 2010 on vista you need 2GB of memory. With parallels the way it is i can only commit 1GB of memory to vista. I was wondering if it would work on bootcamp where i can devote all my memory to windows. Is it even possible to uninstall parallels and all that and switch to bootcamp? If thats even possible would I be able to preserve my copy of vista or would I have to get a new license?

Windows On Mac :: Autocad 2010 On 7 Delete Doesn't Work?

Apr 23, 2010

I have a Macbook pro and I'm running windows 7 as the operating system. I just started using Autocad 2010 on this computer, and for some reason, the "delete" key doesn't delete anything when I press it. I tried to set "pickfirst" to 1 (checking the box of "noun/ verb"), but it doesn't help. Setting them both to <0> and <1> don't make a difference, both options don't "delete" the selected object.

Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?

I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.

PowerPC :: Hard Drive Swapping - IBook G3 And IBook G4

Oct 20, 2006

My brother's iBook G4 (800Mhz, First Rev) has completely splattered itself and we're getting a new Macbook for him under insurance. My iBook G3 (White, 900Mhz G3..the last G3 Rev of the iBook) has a failing hard drive.

Now, could I swap out those two drives, at least to recover stuff? And is there a specific method of opening up the iBook G4 so that I don't break stuff (I've already messed with my G3..and ended up with a dozen extra screws ^_^

Mainly the aim is to salvage the hard drive and swap them out; replacing my faulty iBook G3 one with the iBook G4 one which is perfectly fine.

MacBook Pro :: Anyone Running Win 7 And AutoCad?

Dec 11, 2010

I bought a macbook a few months ago (2.26 Core 2 Duo) as I wanted to venture into the Mac world. I bought this model as it was the cheapest and figured it would be my test. Had I not liked it, oh well, an $800 investment that at least my kids could cruise the net with. Fast forward, I absolutely love Mac, everyday computing tasks to me are so much better than windows, I simply could never go back. With that being said, I am thinking of taking this Macbook and giving it to my niece as payment for many future baby sittings so that may put me in the market for a new one but will the latest i7 satisfy my needs?

I do not prefer to have several machines (as I currently do) and would like to have all of my info and tools when I travel so I would like to buy a new MBP i7 and run both Mac and Win OS's. Running Windows 7 64 bit is a requirement as I own a Shop Drawing business and require AutoCAD for everyday production. My company also produces add-on programs that are currently on the market for AutoDesk products so there is no substitutions, it is my living. So, will the new i7 be powerful enough to run Win 7 64 bit and AutoCAD (09 thru 11) as well as my current i7 920 PC with an ATI 4890 Video Card? Would I ever look back and tell myself that this was a bad decision?

PowerPC :: Should I Keep IBook Or Get A Macbook

Nov 29, 2007

the title awkwardly sums it up for ya. My main machine is a 1.33GHz 12" iBook G4 with a gig o' RAM and Tiger. This was my first Mac, I got it in August, but it seems to be showing its Geekbench score of 762. Launching programs is often agonizing, and the Finder is sluggish. Also, 1024x768 is getting a tad cramped...

Anyway, a friend of the family stopped by today, bringing over his MacBook for me to play with. It seems great, especially the size, and the widescreen display is terrific. Running Windoze would actually be a huge benefit for me, because my idiotic sister hates Macs, and of course I need to keep the little princess happy.

I am considering selling my beloved iBook, and selling some of the other Apples in my orchard, to fund the purchase of a MacBook. My problems with this are.

PowerPC :: Macbook Versus IBook

Dec 23, 2006

I've recently run into this crazy obsession. I want an iBook, but I have a Macbook. When I was looking into getting a new computer, I decided to wait, so that I would be able to get the newer Macbook, but now that I've had it, I keep looking back at the iBook, and I think to myself how much money I could potentially get for downgrading to an iBook, and I love the idea of the older PowerPC computer for some reason. (Basically, I could always think that my Macbook is outdated or have the BEST iBook possible. Course, my usage on either computer would be exactly the same, although I'm sure the iBook would be a tad slower.
