Oct 30, 2010Restored my HD this AM from a TM backup and am experiencing a lot of problems which include (1) Safari and iPhoto crash upon launch, (2) Mail launches but crashes when I attempt to access an email, (3) I have several "offline images" in my Aperture Library and any attempt to access metadata results in a crash.

Dec 8, 2006If I were to run the disk utility that asks for the CDs that come with the MBP, what will that do? It is a software utility of sorts. Can I just re-install the basic system files for the OS, or perhaps even just download or copy over from another computer the "Preferences" file? This seems too simplistic, but I am an ex-Windows user. Don't want to format and re-install or anything of that nature if possible.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Safari 5.1.3 - Restoring Bookmarks Bar And Menu?
Mar 18, 2012I'm running Safari 5.1.3 on imac on 10.7.3. I just synced my ipad to computer. On my bookmarks bar on the ipad I had only 2 bookmarks. On the computer I had a whole bunch. Same with bookmarks menu. After the sync, on my computer, it had deleted all the bookmarks on my bookmarks bar, and only left me the 2 that were on the ipad. Same with bookmarks menu. Seems to have affected bookmarks bar and menu only. Rest of bookmarks are OK. I have an external backup drive and backed up a week ago. But, have never had to restore anything. What's the procedure to restore the bookmarks bar and menu in Safari, using time machine?

Dec 4, 2014Somehow bookmarks in one of my Safari bookmark folders got deleted in the course of attempting to move the folder. When I go into time machine to restore an earlier version of my book marks time machine does not display the contents of the caches folder where I understand the Safari bookmarks are kept, i.e. ~/library/caches/metadata/safari/bookmarks..Â
Is there a way to get time machine to display contents of the caches and metadata folders? If not, is there another way to restore an earlier version of my Safari bookmarks? I have separate backups on external drives in addition to the time machine backup.Â

May 8, 2012I did a complete restore with Time Machine after replacing my hard drive with the seagate momentus XT. Now Mail and Safari will not work and crash right away. They crash every time I open them. All the other applications work just fine. Â

I wanted to change some settings on the computer, but when I entered the administrator password it did not work.I was told that I had to boot up with the system CD and then enter a new admin password, which I did. It seemed to work fine.Now I would like to eliminate the password entirely, but when I go to that section and enter a password, it reads "Incorrect Password"! It seems to work for individual applications, but when it comes to eliminating the password completely, no luck. Could it be looking for the old (UNKNOWN) password? If so I have tried everything and still nothing.

Jan 2, 2010I'm having trouble trying to reset my admin password on my Leopard machine. I am current on all software updates. I purchased the system (desktop iMAC) last year from Apple with Leopard already installed. When I changed my password last week I failed to write it down and now for the life of me I cannot remember what I changed it to. Ok so no big deal (yeah right!) I'll just start up from CD and reset it that way. Well, I started feeling this wave of resistance unfolding and sure enough I run into my first instance of conflict when I hear the CD constantly spinning up and down for 5 minutes while I'm holding down the "C" key. Upon release of the C key the disk just kept on spinning up and down so I had no choice but to power it down using the on/off button in back. Upon restarting the system would not boot up as long as the CD was still spinning so I restarted again holding down the eject key then the CD ejected. So next I started up the machine normally and after it came up I inserted the Installation disk again and waited for it to appear on the desktop which it did. So I went into the start up control panel in system preferences and selected the OSX installation disk in which to reboot from. Same thing.
Disk kept on spinning up and down doing nothing. So I restart it holding down the option key and select the OSX disk and does the same thing spins up and down. I already repaired permissions and zapped PRAM and even looked for error messages when I started up using verbose startup. nothing looked unusual. Ok so now I am at the point to where when I insert the installation disk it shows up on the desktop I double click on the icon and it opens up to its content window but I get the error message: "You can't open the application "Install Mac and Bundled Software" because its not supported on this architecture". I'm not having trouble opening any other CD or DVD on my system. Heres my question other than the obvious one of not being able to run the installation disk to reset my password. I removed every language except the English language from each application the other day because I read that it would improve processing time so I removed every foreign language in my applications folder. Do you think thats the reason I can't start up because maybe at when booting up from CD it looks for one of the foreign languages?..I don't really think this would have any affect on my problem. But I can't think of anything I changed including my password.
Power Mac :: Unable To Reset Admin Password
Apr 21, 2012On my old iMac with OS X 10.4.11 I forgot my admin password. I have the installation DVD, but it doesn't work like the Mac Support instructions seem to indicate. When I install the Mac OSX 10.4 DVD and choose utilities to change password, the only change password option is for the DVD itself...no icon for the associated iMac hard drive. I believe I'd be changing/using a root password rather than the Account Admin Password that I need to change. How can I get out of this situation and identify a replacement for the forgotten admin password on my Admin Account?

OS X Mavericks :: MBP Will Unable To Boot WITHOUT PRAM Reset
Aug 22, 2014Updated to OS X Mavericks last week. Ever since, it has been experiencing boot problems. Â
- If I restart my Macbook Pro (2011 13", lowest model), it will sit at the grey screen with apple logo and spinning grey wheel forever. I notice that my HDD is NOT running (no clicking / writing sounds)Â
- If I restart with a PRAM reset or holding down option to select Macintosh HD boot, the hard drive starts to run (I can hear it) and it boots successfully... it takes 5+ minutes to boot up. The grey screen with apple logo is presented on my screen for about 4 minutes, then the login screen shows up but I cannot move my mouse or select a login user for 30 seconds. After this, I can log in succesfully.Â
-Also, switching users takes 1+ minutes. Clicking "switch user" freezes my screen.

My wife's macbook has recently completed a download and install of the latest Safari (4) and now every time we connect to the net it stays connected for about 10 seconds and then crashes. I receive a message window saying safari quit unexpectedly and offers me options to close, report or reopen safari. I'm useless at diagnosing problems.

Mar 14, 2012In upgraded to Safari 5.1.4 last night. Now I have multiple crashes in web inspector. I want to look at the history.state object in the console, so I type history the the period and web inspector crashes.I was debugging some javascript and part way through, web inspector crashes. Web inspector did not do this with 5.1.3. Being new to the Mac world. I have a MacBook Pro and would like to revert back to Safari 5.1.3 so I can complete my project. Does anyone know how I can revert to the previous version of Safari? I am unable to do my work.

So I rebooted my mac and surprise, surprise: none of the user accounts (3), including root were accepting their own passwords! So I made CMD+R, Terminal, resetpassword, and changed them all, including ALCs reset: No effect on any user login! still gives me the shake's and after 3 trials the password hint...Â
