Jun 19, 2014Had to reinstall system. All back up with Time Machine. Finally got everything re-installed but cannot figure out how to re-install and restore Safari Bookmarks.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Safari 5.1.3 - Restoring Bookmarks Bar And Menu?
Mar 18, 2012I'm running Safari 5.1.3 on imac on 10.7.3. I just synced my ipad to computer. On my bookmarks bar on the ipad I had only 2 bookmarks. On the computer I had a whole bunch. Same with bookmarks menu. After the sync, on my computer, it had deleted all the bookmarks on my bookmarks bar, and only left me the 2 that were on the ipad. Same with bookmarks menu. Seems to have affected bookmarks bar and menu only. Rest of bookmarks are OK. I have an external backup drive and backed up a week ago. But, have never had to restore anything. What's the procedure to restore the bookmarks bar and menu in Safari, using time machine?

Dec 4, 2014Somehow bookmarks in one of my Safari bookmark folders got deleted in the course of attempting to move the folder. When I go into time machine to restore an earlier version of my book marks time machine does not display the contents of the caches folder where I understand the Safari bookmarks are kept, i.e. ~/library/caches/metadata/safari/bookmarks..Â
Is there a way to get time machine to display contents of the caches and metadata folders? If not, is there another way to restore an earlier version of my Safari bookmarks? I have separate backups on external drives in addition to the time machine backup.Â

OS X Mountain Lion :: Mail Not Restoring Email From Time Machine?
Aug 26, 2014restoring email from my Time Machine backup.Â
It's an IMAP account, and someone accessed the email from an iPad - almost the entire inbox was emptied.Â
I have TM running and I have restored the INBOX.mbox file to the finder just in case. And here are the steps I have followed:Â Tried to restore all the emails into the inbox in question through TimeMachine in Mail.Tried to restore the entire INBOX through TimeMachine in Mail.Tried to restore email via importing the recovered folder.Tried to do a test import of 1 email through TimeMachine in Mail.Â
All failed.Â
The sent items are still OK and present, and the account is in active use, so if I could just restore the inbox emails that would be the best.Â
I understand that when they are restored they will need to upload to the server and populate there, but 2 hours should definitely be enough and there is no visible activity in my mail to indicate that is happening.Â

OS X Mountain Lion :: Restoring Keychain From Time Machine Didn't Work
Sep 6, 2014This morning I thought I was deleting the keychain password to one account, when I accidentally deleted all of my keychain storage items. I followed the directions from the Support Community to restore the Keychain Folder using my Time Machine backup. I even restored the .plist files. Â
However, now when I open a site in Safari, only the user name is pre-populated, but not the password. When Safari asks me if I want to save the password in my Keychain, an error message pops up telling me "A keychain cannot be found to store password."  I'm given the option to Cancel or Reset to Defaults. I'm not sure what to do. I'm even afraid to restart my Mac fearing I won't be able to log in or connect to my wifi network.Â
I also cannot get any of my emails through the Mail application. It keeps prompting me to enter my password, but then won't allow me to hit the Okay button b/c it's grayed-out.Â

Switching from a 12" aluminum G4PB (non-Intel) so I can't use Migration Assistant.Old laptop doesn't have iCloud capability as far as I know.Tried copying the old Safari.plist to the Lion Library but this didn't work.I noticed there is a second Safari plist-like file in Library/Preferences under Lion.

Jun 26, 2010Because Windows screwed up my MacBook Pro (screwed up all partitions on the drive) I had to reinstall Snow Leopard and thus I lost everything in my user profile, but I have all the important stuff on my iPod Touch. How would I go about getting the stuff back from it without iTunes purging the device? Do I have to use some 3rd party tool or will iTunes be able to copy everything back?

Mar 18, 2012All my bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. I want to move them all so they are just in bookmarks menu dont want anything in bookmarks bar. I have edited renamed moved the bookmarks from bookmarks bar without a problem until I quite safari. Jun 7, 2012After my recovery drive went missing and trying to reinstall it, had to do a format of my hard drive and reinstall everything once I got OS X reinstalled and up-to-date, I tried to import my bookmarks from a backup bookmarks file, when I quit safari and re-open safari bookmarks were missing and default ones back in place. When searching though the forums for how to fix this problem but too know unluck they did not work.

Jun 21, 2012Well I still can't get bookmarks to sync proper with Lion. I have three Mac Pros, two ipads and iMac 3.4 27inch and iPhone 4s. Every thing syncs on all devices ,,,,, All but the bookmarks between the computers. The ios devices sync fine, but no two computers will sync bookmarks. I have tried everything on the forums and a few more of my own, but to no avail!

Jul 5, 2012I have a longish list of bookmarks, which I synchronize to iCloud. When adding new ones or editing existing ones, I find at least 50-75 per cent of the time Safari hangs for a minute or so, spinning beachball and all.

Jun 5, 2014Safari wont open any pages such as youtube, facebook etc saying that it cannot establish a secure server. This just happened about 3 hours ago just as my mac went to sleep. The only new thing I did was use an HDMI cable to connect to my TV. The mac had been shutdown for low battery because i fell asleep on movie. Anyways, I woke up plugged in my charger only to find that i can't connect to certain sites... Further compounding my problem is a taskbar that says "The certificate for this website is invalid. You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be <url here>.

Will I have to redownload all the system updates that came out since Snow Leopard's launch? Is there a way around that?

If I want to keep a certain application, do I save the DMG or the installed icon onto the hard drive?
I copied the Pictures folder onto the hard-drive, which includes the 'iPhoto Library' file. Will this put my events back onto iPhoto?
How do I save address book contacts?
How do I save iTunes playlists/play counts/library etc?
Maybe there's an easier way of doing a fresh install while still being able to select these things to keep?

I already know how to move over my music files, documents, etc. However, I have a ton of bookmarks saved and I'd hate to hate to build my bookmarks from scratch after doing a clean install of OS X.
