View 2 RepliesEvery once in awhile my CPU fan will randomly start speeding up until it gets to about 2000RPM, the optical and hard drive fans will reach about 1250 RPM. After about 10 minutes of annoying fan noise it'll slow down back to around 1000 RPM for all fans. Is this normal? The temperatures all look fine according to iStat, and it's not like I'm doing heavy computing (just running firefox, uTorrent, and iTunes). Is there a way to regulate the fan speed, or do I possibly have a defective computer?
View 6 Replies View Relatedi just recently bought a iMac G4 in good condition for $175 on Craigslist.I was on a budget so i couldn't afford to spend $1000 on a Macbook.I'm not too familiar on Macs since its my first one.But it seems to be a PowerPC, It's running Tiger OS, and the base of the Mac looks like a lamp.I'm sure you guys know what a iMac G4 is.So are there any ways of speeding up this thing? Is it slow because of its age?Because it seems to be in pretty good shape to me.I did a restore on it and it was still slow.I just need help on improving the performance.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI forgot my admin password on my iMac recently and so i used the reboot with OS X snow leopard install disc to reset the keychain, but now on my login screen, it used to be just my account name, there is one called "Other" so i went into accounts in system preferences and tried to delete it but it isnt there?is really annoying me p.s. the "other account" isnt actually an account it says "Other" and when you click on it asks for your username and password...so i type in the admin accounts name and password (admin account is the only one on this computer), and it just opens up my admin account.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI took everyone's suggestions and downloaded NeoOffice instead of using TextEdit. Since my entire document was in TextEdit, I just decided to copy and paste all the text into NeoOffice. Little did I realize that my book I'm writing has grown to 98 PAGES! Obviously, as soon as it got the document imported, the entire thing froze up. I haven't been able to get it to work well at all. I'm using a Powerbook G4 1.67ghz 1GB RAM, Radeon 9700. I can't believe that such a computer can't handle simple word processing tasks, and I'm convinced that it's a software issue.
I'm running Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.6 with all latest updates.

So, I need to take the original video, speed it up (shorten it), and save it for viewing on the iPod - is there functionality in QT Pro or iMovie. If not, a preferably free third party app?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 15' MBP late 2011 8,2 2.2ghz i7, 8gb RAM, Hi Res Anti Glare. Over the last 4-5 weeks, my MBP would randomly speed the right fan up to 7000rpm causing the fan to go past the recommended max of 6200. This, on occasions has resulted in the fan producing a high frequency squeel as it is being worked too hard. Is it a co-incedence that 6 weeks ago 10.7.4 was released, could this be the issue? I have also installed the combo client update, but still my fan speeds up. I have booked it in to see a Genius, but just wondered if anyone has the same issue in the same MBP

I wasn't able to edit and was having issues on this site earlier (access denied) I'll try to make this as short as possible. I have a Macbook Pro (late 2011) running OS X 10.9.4Today I was typing in a website address for work and instead of that homepage I had hostprivilege.com come up with something about Norton anti virus, virus not removed, i can't remember exactly but something along those lines. Also a small pop up window showed up to call an 1 800 number with the ok button highlighted Everytime I hit the ok it would pop right back up.
I was unable to click anything else front ehSafari drop down box except for the quit button. When I did and came back on it was till there. I finally kept clicking the ok and reset Safari and after frantic clicking was able to reset. What that was and should I be concerned? I was leery about logging on even to this site or any other until I know that happened. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but I got a red error message bar a couple of times while in the site and when trying to change my avatar, I had a access denied on the server message.

My Mac is noticeably slower so I'm looking to clean it up before I try a clean install on the hard drive. I found a Kodak printer program and an HP printer program both of which I deleted from applications, but both of which are chewing up 500MB of process memory, and when I force a quit they just pop open again a second later.Question:
Where are these programs hididng? How do I kill them?
Any other tricks to speed my Mac up (I verified permissions already).
Is there a way via an add-on or setting to have Safari perform a "Reset Safari" when you close Safari and/or have "Private Browsing" enabled when you a launch Safari? Similar to the functionality that FireFox has where you can clean up automatically after your session using "Clear Private Data." In FireFox there is a preference for it but I didn't see anything like that in Safari - leading me to believe there might be a hack or add-on that will do it.

If I reset Safari, it will often crash if TOP SITES is the first window Safari reopens with.
The crash may also be aggravated by my attempt to type something in the search bar, right after I reset.
I have now set Safari to open with a homepage, and now I can reset Safari at will and it no longer crashes after a reset.

It's happened twice this month - my CPU fans will suddenly rev up to 4,000 RPM, and iStatPro will show the CPU temperature as "--". The first time it happened, I was worried that the machine got too hot. The second time, I had just sat down at the computer in the morning... the top of it was hardly even warm.
Both times, after shutting down and rebooting the fans went back to normal, but the computer performed poorly in graphical tasks such as rendering and gaming until I do an SMC reset, which brings it back to normal.
I have an old school Indigo IMac. It was my uncle's and unfortunately he just passed away. I am attempting to install software but it wants the password. Obviously I cant ask my uncle. If I can not install my apps then this Mac will be worthless to me.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have created user accounts on my iMac for each of my kids. Whenever we try to login to my daughter's account, we see the standard 'galaxy' background, then a flash of gray, then the background again and then that process repeats over and over. The DVD Player app is running, but I cannot figure out a way to kill it or get out of the endless loop. Everytime she logs in, I end up having to hold the button on the back of the computer to shut it off, then restart everything.
Is there a way to sign in to her account without having all the applications launched that were running when she signed out? I think that might be the first step to fixing everything, but I can't figure out how to do that. Is there a preferences file I can kill? Or are there aliases in a folder somewhere that contain the items to be relaunched at startup? Her account is managed under parental controls.
