View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook with MacOS 10.5.5. I purchased Snow Leopard and want to install it, but I forgot my master password. I know what the password is supposed to be, but it doesn't work when I type it in.I cannot find my original MacOS 10.5 disk to re-do the password.
I am considering purchasing diskwarrior but want to make sure it can help my situation before I purchase it. My imac will not boot from the internal hard drive (Intel processor) When I use disk utility to try and repair the disk, I get error messages and it won't repair. I can see the HD but cannot repair it. When I connect using target mode with my mac book pro, the hard drive does not appear on my host (macbook pro) computer. I have reloaded OS X (Leopard) onto a firewire external drive and can boot my imac that way but I can not find my original internal Macintosh HD. Will disk warrior be able to help with this scenario. I would really like to access that internal Macintosh HD and retrieve my files.

previously i have a problem for unable to login after my MBP hanged and restart.
i search online and found a solution to it which is to remove ATIRadeonX1000.kext . however by doing this there is a lot of inconvinent for me.

We've got roaming accounts for our macs, but we get issues sometimes when students log in that the icon for the hard disk doesnt appeard on the desktop or in the finder. Weirdly related to this is when this happens neither firefox or safari can load any webpages. However, if students log out and log back in again the internet works fine. Im assuming when the hard disk isnt available, then firefox and safari cant access its preferences and necessary files properly, but what would be causing the hard drives not to mount/be visibile?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two USB cardreaders. One is (I think) a USB 1, unbranded. The other is a USB 2 branded Seitec). Our cameras both use Sony Memory Stick Pro Duos). They both of worked with both my wife and my iMacs under 10.5.11. Both machines (hers from 2006, mine an Intel Core 2 Duo from 2007) have been happily upgraded to SL 10.6.1... but now the cardreaders work with her machine, but not with mine. They don't mount on the desktop. I have tried various combinations ... attaching them through keyboard /back of iMac, powered USB hub. Sometimes they are recognised by System Profiler, sometimes not! Disk Utility seems unable to see them at all, so I can't get it to mount them.
However, when I leave the card in my camera and connect it direct to the keyboard (or whatever socket I choose!) the computer recognises the camera immediately I switch it on, and downloads quite happily
Is it possible to use a 10.6 disk that was included with my purchase of a MacBook to perform a clean install of snow leopard on my 2 year old Mac Pro? I remember back in the system 9 days all we had to do was a key combination(command-shift-K methinks?) at the install screen to use the system discs on other systems...

kernal panic the screen goes gray with a box in the middle with a power button behind it saying it need to hold the restart button and then presss it again.
i called applecare and the lady had me delete the plist files and for some reason a couple kept coming back and would not delet virus maybe. but i did that then restarted my computer and my doc was full blown huge loast alot of data and all that. plus my computer started to play the video when installing leopard really odd. my email information is gone to...and now my aluminum macbook says in a pop up install box remote install mac osx helps you install mac os x on your macbook air what the ****.

I cannot believe I am actually in this position, but I accidentally reformatted my lacie 1TB external HD. The files were not overwritten as it was the most basic and quick format option, but they are not accessible.

I can't save files to my desktop. I have no problem saving the same file anywhere else. WHen I try through excel, for example, it tells me the file is read only. When I try to save it as a different file name, a pop up tells me I do not have permission to save to the desktop. The same issue occurs when I attempt to take a screen shot (default save to desktop)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've removed my old hard drive from my macbook (which I have sold) and am about to buy a new 13"mbp. Unfortunately I couldn't buy the new machine before selling the old, so I am presented with a problem. I could just install the disk in the new machine (its a 320gb 7200rpm, so in the long-term I'll be doing this in any case), but I'll want iLife 09 on there and its possible there are system files that are required for the new machine that wont be on my old system (10.5.7, from a 2007 macbook).
The main thing is that I want all my files, and applications and settings, plugins etc., on the new mbp, but because I don't have the old laptop I cant use migration assistant. The disk is in a usb enclosure currently. So, do I install the old disk and then try and update iLife, or will I run into problems? Or, can I transfer my applications and all their settings via some other means? I have a (full!) lacie firewire external which I could perhaps employ.
Since reorganizing my file system. when I click the "desktop folder"a message comes up "There is no application set to open the document 'desktop'. Further I am not able to drag any files onto the actual desktop.

I've created a Snow Leopard boot disk using this method link. I created it on a 16GB CF Disk. I've tried it twice. First time I formatted the disk as eXfat with 1 partition. Next time I used Mac OS Extended for a 7Gig partition and fat32 for the rest.
Upon boot I get the normal install stuff like I do with the DVD, but then no hard disk shows up. I thought it was because of the eXfat which is why I tried again. I looked into the system profiler and I can see my seagate hard disk, but under disk utility it doesn't exist. My Sata DVD drive shows up though. If I boot off of the DVD I can see and install to my hard disk.

I am trying to partition my current HardDrive so I can run a Macintosh on half of it. The other half will of coarse be windows. I've tried programs like BasiliskII and SoftMac, neither work.
I grabbed some spare 10.4 disks I had, and my computer refused to read them. So I got my hands on a different set of 10.4 install disks and my computer still refused to read them.
I am trying to do this because it's a project for my Computer Hardware class. I've spent way too much time on this without any progress.
I usually just turn off my monitor at night but for some reason, the HD constantly makes spinning noise even then the computer hasn't been used for hours ( i don't run time machine ).
Is there any way to tell what process is causing this stupid HD activity? My previous Dell machine was so much more quiet than this POS. I prefer not having to explicitly put the machine the sleep every time.
I ordered a second hard drive for my powermac g5.Its a 400 gig seagate drive.I power off my machine,unhooked everything and plugged in the drive.
I boot up and the drive isnt showing in disk utility.Is it something i did?
My intention is to partition an external HD in half allowing it to serve as a backup for a pc running windows xp, and the other half as a backup for a mac(10.5. I am using a Seagate external HD(new) that was initially partitioned on a windows xp computer.
The 1st half of the 1TB HD was formatted in NTFS format, and the second half was erased and (I thought) reformatted in HFS plus but when I attempt to use CCC(Carbon Copy) to copy the mac 1/2 of the hard drive, I get this message:
"You may have difficulty booting from this target volume, the underlying disk is not formatted with a partitioning scheme that Apple recommends for Intel Macs."
I have read the recommendations that the external HD need to be partitioned with APM or GPT, but I cannot seem to get to that option now for the mac side of the external HD.
In the Disk Utility, the external HD shows both sections of the partitioned drive(the xp section and the leopard). I do not want to reformat the entire drive(both sections) if at all possible.
I just want the Mac side of the ext drive to be properly prepared for CCC, and the windows side to remain as is.

Ok so here it goes.
The situation I'm in is pretty akward and it's quite a long story but I'll try my best to explain everything.This afternoon I went to a friend's house to transfer some data to my external hard drive (MyBook Studio).Since my HD is formatted as HFS+ and my mate owns a Windows PC, I'd asked him to install MacDrive.
When we plugged in my HD, Windows just didn't detect it. We tried all sorts of things, including rebooting.. but nothing seemed to help. No matter what we did. The damn thing just didn't detect my hard drive. Not even with MacDrive.
I desperately wanted to transfer some data to my HD since I'd drove quite a while to get there. So after a bit of Google research we decided to create a partition. My HD has a capacity of 1 TB and only about half of it was being used.So we went on and created a NTFS partition of 400 GB. Now Windows could detect the partition we'd just made.
Everything went fine, we could now transfer some data to my HD.Nevertheless.. when I got home and connected my HD to my Macbook Pro, Finder could only see the partition which we formatted as NTFS. The other 600 GB, which we hadn't touched.. is nowhere to be found.
There's quite a lot of important data on there so I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me.
