OS X :: Forgot Master Password / Unable To Login To System?
Jul 26, 2010
I have a MacBook with MacOS 10.5.5. I purchased Snow Leopard and want to install it, but I forgot my master password. I know what the password is supposed to be, but it doesn't work when I type it in.I cannot find my original MacOS 10.5 disk to re-do the password.

At first I had forgotten my admin/master password and made numerous attempts. Then I tried to reboot my macbookpro by pressing " command S" numerous attempts, even " command r "and the "option" key but my computer will not reboot. Now I have a huge lock icon on my screen. Plus When I purchased my computer it did not come with a startup cd.

I recently purchased a used imac g4 from a friend but I cannot seem to get it started. I tried to log in with the master password but do not have the password or install disk for OSX. I asked my friend about it and he said the same thing, he lost the user and master password including install disk. I took the comp from his hands anyway, it's in new condition and he never really used it, just forgot about it I suppose. It also seems that on startup the mac searches for disks and servers, so it could of been a part of a network system???????
I would like to know if there is a way to get into the bios and reset the whole system without password prompts and all that. Which is the best way to do this?
I have the mac osx install disk from my ibook but I tried to boot the disk and it's not booting. I also have the install disk for os tiger and that's not booting either. There must be a super secure lock on the system.

I've got a macbook which is logged out of a user, and I can't remember my password! Is there anyway to reset/force login, without logging in? I looked around on google, but couldn't find much about doing it from the login window.

Lately I've been noticing that when logging into our SnowLeopard miniserve after "fat-fingering" the password once, I am prompted to reset the Master Password. When doing this you are also informed that the keychain will be updated. Is there a system level setting that is causing this? It doesn't seem like you should have to reset the Master Password/keychain after one failed attempt to log into the system...?

I am trying to run Cache Out. The program asks for the system password. I type in my usual password that I use for installing programs, or trashing stuff from the system folder... It won't allow me to run the program, saying the password is wrong.

I finally decided to do all the back up and such to update the system. It was one of those if it ain't broken don't fix it type situations. I just installed Leopard to my old 14" Mac G4 laptop. Everything was going fine until the first screen dialog box asked for my password. I tried the usual suspects.. even my hint was "the usual one" and I cannot get the computer to accept it or anything else. I am in a loop and cannot get any further. The dialogue box gives you log in, restart and shut down. Is there a work around? How do I get out of this mess? I am in deep poop as I need to access my computer. What can I do... I'm logging on to someone else's computer until I can get back into mine.

My wife couldn't install programs to her mac. It keeps asking for a password that she cannot remember. The lock is locked, so we can't change anything. I used the CD and went to the utilities and reset her user password there, but it mentions that it does not reset her keychain password. Well, I can't log in to change anything. How the heck am I supposed to change her keychain password? Will she lose the thousands of pictures that she has taken if I do reset it? Is there some way to save the data?

I recently purchased a powerbook G4 running version 10.5.8. I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.

I am running Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro. For some reason when I went to install a program upgrade it wouldn't take my password. So after a lot of mess I finally put in the install DVD and changed the password. Problem is that now every time I start up the computer I have to log in. Used to be that if I shut down I didn't have to log in when I started it up again. Now it always asks for the password.

I recently changed my apple ID password and now I can't log in to the icloud system preferences on my iMac or the App Store on my iMac. Everything else is fine with the new password; icloud.com, itunes, ipad, iphone, MacBook Air. Have tried creating a new user account but get the same messages which vary from "unrecognized user or password" to "problem communicating with icloud, try again later."

I usually log onto my mac automatically, but after I changed my log in setting, I couldn't log onto the computer since I can't remember my user or login name. I know my password. Currently I am out of the country and I don't have the original disk to reset my user (login) name and password. Please let me know if there is an another way to resolve this problem.

I cannot get a solid answer on this one. Since the update it seems that safari fails to save my login info. For example I have to re-enter my username and pass for macrumors atleast once everyday. Also it seems that Safari occasionally hogs more memory and resources after extended use. Anyone else?

I recently got my computer fixed and ended up getting a new one. it is a mac book laptop. I changed the password before it got sent and i completely forgot it. They backed my new laptop up with my old hard drive so now i got my old stuff on the new one. I want to download this application so i can fix this .zip file but i need the admin password. I've tried using the install discs but they tell me to enter the admin. I've tried putting the install disc in and pushing c on start up but it just freezes on the white screen with the apple. Is there something wrong with my computer? should i contact the insurance company who i dealt with?
