i have a mac performa (1997 running mac OS 9) hard disk and i want to move its files to a macbook pro (early 2011 running Mac OS X 10.6.8) how can i do this operation? and if i can, will the files on the hard disk be executable? i have some filemaker pro 2 documents that i need, will i be able to view them?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2007 non unibody MBP. I have the OptiBay as well. I'm going to install my old HDD in the optibay because my 2007 MBP has ATA. The SSD will be installed with SATA in the old HD position.
What I'd like to do is to have only the OS and all apps including my virtual machine on the SSD and use my HDD as the files server, but keep the OS and apps there as a back plan in case the SSD dies suddenly. What is the best way to get my OS and apps from the HDD to the new SSD?
I keep on getting this message when I am trying to install bootcamp. What is exactly the problem?

When I first got it, I wasn't able to move any files to my Western Digital External (that works with my previous blackbook) and my other external. It says The item '(item name)' could not be moved because 'System' (or other folder name) cannot be modified. iWork 09 and Virtual Dj don't work either. I want to reformat the hdd, but I can't do that until I backup everything, which I can't do. I tried the second solution "Type this, followed by Return: sh /etc/rc" and my Mac said could not find this directory.

1) When I set a program to auto-clean files (for example, deleting source rar files after unpacking) it doesn't work
2) Whenever I try to delete a file, I get a warning that "This cannot be undone", and it's doing a permanent delete rather than moving it to trash.I've verified that I'm not using any Seagate drivers, and the drive shows up as the "Orange" generic external drive.

I accidentally deleted an item on my make but it is on my external HD how to I transfer it from the Ex HD to the Mac. this was an IPhoto Library an Album also is there a way to see how many photos I had backed up on a certain day compared to what I have now-another words I did a back up on may 5th and had x number of photos and had lots of issues with adding more photos but was able to do so now I have more photos but I am not sure they all transferred without going through and counting them TIA?

I recently got myself a MacBook Pro and I'm having problems transferring files from my old Windows XP based laptop. I downloaded the Windows Migration Assistant onto my old laptop but everytime I tried to run it I got various error messages telling me I needed to upgrade this and that. Now the laptop has decided to give in totally and won't switch on at all! I do have all my music etc backed up onto an external hard drive but when I connect it to my MacBook it just doesn't want to know, I assume as all the data on there is formatted as Windows.

The hard drive in my MacBook is turning 3 years old, and weird noises are being emitted from it, which means, the hard drive is on it's last legs. The stock Apple hard drive was an 80GB. Specs of the MacBook are in the sig. I was thinking to myself, why not take this as an opportunity to get a much larger hard drive for not that much money. So I came across this:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've removed my old hard drive from my macbook (which I have sold) and am about to buy a new 13"mbp. Unfortunately I couldn't buy the new machine before selling the old, so I am presented with a problem. I could just install the disk in the new machine (its a 320gb 7200rpm, so in the long-term I'll be doing this in any case), but I'll want iLife 09 on there and its possible there are system files that are required for the new machine that wont be on my old system (10.5.7, from a 2007 macbook).
The main thing is that I want all my files, and applications and settings, plugins etc., on the new mbp, but because I don't have the old laptop I cant use migration assistant. The disk is in a usb enclosure currently. So, do I install the old disk and then try and update iLife, or will I run into problems? Or, can I transfer my applications and all their settings via some other means? I have a (full!) lacie firewire external which I could perhaps employ.

The situation I'm in is pretty akward and it's quite a long story but I'll try my best to explain everything.This afternoon I went to a friend's house to transfer some data to my external hard drive (MyBook Studio).Since my HD is formatted as HFS+ and my mate owns a Windows PC, I'd asked him to install MacDrive.
When we plugged in my HD, Windows just didn't detect it. We tried all sorts of things, including rebooting.. but nothing seemed to help. No matter what we did. The damn thing just didn't detect my hard drive. Not even with MacDrive.
I desperately wanted to transfer some data to my HD since I'd drove quite a while to get there. So after a bit of Google research we decided to create a partition. My HD has a capacity of 1 TB and only about half of it was being used.So we went on and created a NTFS partition of 400 GB. Now Windows could detect the partition we'd just made.
Everything went fine, we could now transfer some data to my HD.Nevertheless.. when I got home and connected my HD to my Macbook Pro, Finder could only see the partition which we formatted as NTFS. The other 600 GB, which we hadn't touched.. is nowhere to be found.
There's quite a lot of important data on there so I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me.
How do you get the install destination hard disk to show up when re-installing the operating system? I'm trying to re-install my OS and can't get past this step because the destination disk does not show.

The free space on my MacBook is disappearing fast but I don't know why. I am hoping someone can tell me where to start solving this problem. It must be invisible files but what can I do about it? This started after I restored from a Time Machine backup to a new hard disk after the hard disk failed (another story). The Time Machine backup was about a week old (isn't it always the case?) so I don't think it is likely that I could have restored anything that might have had anything to do with the hard disk failure. Everything seemed to be working fine, having spent hours resorting emails and trying to reconstruct files I had lost from the week I didn't back up. During that week I had bought an iPhone. When I connected it to the restored computer it deleted all the apps I had installed. Not a big problem, as I was able to track them down from an iTunes receipt and reinstall them. I then attached my iPod and the computer had to replace all the files with new ones. As there were a lot of songs and photos I left it to do this and went to bed. Next day the iPod now had newly replaced files and seems fine. But there is a warning that the startup disk is full. No new files had been put on the computer, which had about 9.5 Gb free space. I deleted some files so I could do some things with the computer to find out what was happening. The space thus freed soon disappeared. I then deleted Parallels Desktop so that I could free up more space. I now had 29.67 Gb free space. I tried searching for large files but nothing suspicious seems to detectable. By the end of the day the free space had gone down to 24.39 Gb. It now stands at 23.22.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently picked up a USB Hard Disk, I plan on copying large files to it (for example 20gb VMs), I am wondering whether or not finder can copy files as large as 20gb one at a time because the last time I tried to do this on a USB Stick, the file transfer would either freeze or would end up taking way too long to transfer and in the end I had to pull it out and having to reformat it. DOes anyone here know if such things will happen again copying these files?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am deleting large amounts of files / directories with 10s of GB of disk usage from my internal hard disk.Then I empty the trash.But I don't get more free space on my hard disk! I am not using File Vault.(I also believe that my file system is not corrupt.) This is quite annoying, since I am still unable to copy stuff on my internal hard disk, but given the amount of files I have just deleted, I should be able to do so.

My hard disk is a Raid system. 4x3TB = total 12TB but 3 TB is for backup. So in effect usage space is 9TB. But now used up 7TB (called it original harddisk) I took my iMac to a shop and it dis some verify and tried to repair the disk using Disk Utility. But it cannot repair. Apparently, he said that my hard disk is okay but it has a directory corrupt problem. That is why now my FCPX cannot read all the data. All my media files for FCPX are stored in this 9TB external hard disk. So, I was told the steps to do are:Â
1)Â copy all these 7TB data from Original hard disk into a new hard disk (called it haddisk B).Â
2) Then reformat the old 9TB hard disk (which we earlier called as original hard disk).Â
3) Then I copy back from hard disk B into Original Harddisk 9TBÂ Question is will FCPX be able to recognise again my media files from the Original hard disk in
