Jun 10, 2008I have Mail checking my [URL] address. I want to use Mail to also check my Gmail account. No problem in setting that up... done already. Here's the issue: I have more than 1.1GB of mail in my Gmail account, including file backups on Gspace. I don't want Mail to download all those messages... only the past week or so, then move forward with Mail downloading new Gmail messages only. Is there a way to tell Mail NOT to download my entire Gmail history?

Feb 28, 2010Don't know if this was addressed yet, but "Spam" mail from my gmail (spam folder - duh!) keeps popping up in my "Sent Mail" folder in Mac mail. I found this post online, but am not tech savvy enough to know what they're talking about.

Mar 28, 2010I've got limited hard drive space. In gmail, I keep my inbox pared down to just a few emails I'm actively working on (ie 3-10 emails at a time). Everything else gets archived. However, when I try to set up Mac Mail for gmail (as described on 50 different websites), my computer starts downloading thousands of emails - my sent mail, anything I've tagged, etc. I don't want all this. I just want the few active emails (my inbox) at any one time.
I've tried mapping folders in Mail (ie Use this folder for....), but can't seem to pare it down to just the inbox.

Apr 25, 2012Apple Mail has a preference to 'Trust junk mail headers in messages' but I can not find a list of what those headers are.By trial and error I've learned the "X-Spam-Flag: YES" will work (exactly that, no extra info), but I'd like to know what other options there are... particularly if I can send a score/rating back and have it look at that.But I can't find a list of supported headers.The Internet is full of "common spam headers" and yet none of them actually seem to work and lots of people who can't get it working with spamassassin which is incredibly common.

I am using it in conjunction with a MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid-2010, i5, 2.53 GHz, running OS 10.7.4 and the current version of Mail) and an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1 with the pre-installed Mail app). I, rarely, use Gmail's web interface and prefer to view and manage my mail using my devices.
I, recently, discovered a Gmail behavior that I wasn't aware of. Whenever I deleted an email from my Inbox on my MacBook, it wouldn't, actually, delete from Gmail. Instead, a copy of the mail would remain in Gmail's "All Mail" folder. It seems that Gmail and I have different ideas about deleting. When I delete, it means that I would, actually, like to get rid of it, not hide it somewhere else. After sorting through the, almost, 3000 emails in the "All Mail" folder and re-deleting everything that I thought I had already deleted (a pain, to be sure), I found the solution to my problem.In Apple Mail, I checked both Trash options in my account preferences then selected Gmail's "Trash" folder and used the "Use This Mailbox For" option to map it to Mail's trash (similarly, I mapped the trash folder on my iPhone to Gmail's trash folder). Now, everything I delete is going to the same place (and actually getting deleted).

May 22, 2009I use gmail as my main email account. I have it synched to my iphone (IMAP) and mail.app (IMAP). This was all running smoothly until about a week ago when I turned on my mac and opened mail. It started downloading hundreds of emails.
I looked over them and it seems that all the mails that I have moved to sub folders have been copied to my inbox again and marked as unread.
I have not knowingly changed any settings on my iphone, mac or web based gmail.

May 23, 2012I've got 2 gmail account in my mac mail. One of them stopped display new mail on 24/5/2012. The last mail that I've got is 23:45pm 23/5/2012. When I try to get new mail for that mail box, the mail ativity shows they are loading 43 incoming messages. However, once the loading is done, nothing shows up.
As I said i've got 2 gmail accounts in the mail and the other account is working fine.

Mar 22, 2009I have three accounts setup in Mail, and for some reason one of the accounts, the one that I need the most, is getting hundreds of junk emails daily, I tried to set some advanced settings in junk mail filtering but nothing works. One funny thing is that most of the junk mail I get is not even addressed to a name on my account, just a random name@myserver.com, there has to be a way to filter anything not addressed directly to me out, or a way to stop this period.

Apr 25, 2012I just received an email supposedly from Apple, at least I thought so, that someone had changed my birthdate and security questions in my Apple acct, and they asked me if I didn't so this, to change my password. It looked like an Apple email. SO I clicked thru the email to change m password, got an https:// and entered my user ID and clicked to change my password, They said I would receive a followup email, at my email box, to continue the change. I didn't. I did it at least 4 times and NO email, to date. Then, I went to the Apple website, support, and went to 'change password' directly, and when the page came up the place where I enter my info was FROZEN! I could not enter anything. The whole page was frozen. No matter which way I entered the Apple site, I always ended up at that page, (to enter my user ID, on my way to change my password), and the page was always frozen. Therefore, I cannot get into my acct to change anything.

Oct 2, 2008I use Apple Mail as a client for my Gmail account instead of Gmail's web interface. There is one thing the web interface provides that I'm not sure how to set up within Apple Mail. In the web interface under Settings --> Accounts, the first section is called "Send mail as:" and allows you to send mail from the interface that uses another email address in the From header. I have it set so that when I receive a message that was sent to one of these other addresses (they all forward to my Gmail address), replies will automatically be sent with that address as the From header. How do I set up this functionality within Apple Mail without creating a separate account/inbox for the other accounts? I am not checking mail directly from the others, just want to be able to send as them.

Aug 29, 2008I just switched my settings in Mail so that I'm now checking my Gmail accounts using IMAP rather than POP. This has gone smoothly save for one thing: Growl now notifies me of every piece of Spam that comes into the Spam folder on the server. Is there any way to adjust this?
Likewise, Growl also notifies me about anything new message on the server, whether it's an e-mail I have sent (added to the server-side Sent Messages folder) and also takes to notifiying me two, three, or even more times for a single message (because it comes into the All Mail folder on the server and then into my client-side mailbox in Mail)
