Apr 23, 2010My mail.app is setup using IMAP with my Gmail account. I've noticed that Mail.app randomly decides to download all the IMAP messages all over again at random intervals (could be a few days, could be a few weeks). I've noticed this behavior on both of my computers, additionally I know other people with this same issue. Does anyone here have this issue as well? If so, what is the problem?

Jun 10, 2008I have Mail checking my [URL] address. I want to use Mail to also check my Gmail account. No problem in setting that up... done already. Here's the issue: I have more than 1.1GB of mail in my Gmail account, including file backups on Gspace. I don't want Mail to download all those messages... only the past week or so, then move forward with Mail downloading new Gmail messages only. Is there a way to tell Mail NOT to download my entire Gmail history?

Feb 1, 2010I have my Apple Mail configured for use with my Gmail IMAP account but I have a problem. From the Apple Mail app, I can not see messages that were sent while in the web version of Gmail. To me, if I have it configured via IMAP, anything I do on my phone, I should see on my mac. Anything I do on my mac, I should see anywhere from the web app. Am I doing something wrong? Can YOU see messages you sent through the web portal, on your Apple Mail app?

Apr 27, 2012I have an IMAP account in Lion Mail, that I would like all the individual messages exported into a Folder, say on my desktop. This email is no longer functioning so I simply won't be able to re-import the messages if I were to export the mailbox as it appears it only places a plist file referencing the IMAP information. Previously I believe I was able to highlight all messages and drag-n-drop them into a folder of my choice. I can sort of do it, One by one if I drag and drop. Is there any other method to obtaining this.....selecting all messages and dropping them into a local folder?

Dec 17, 2007I have just discovered that my IMAP email account is not saving any of my outgoing SENT emails on the server ! I have checked the settings and the option to store on the server is ticked.
I spoke to my ISP guy just now and he confirmed that there is nothing in the sent folder despite the fact that I sent three important emails today.
He suggested I 'untick' the option and save sent emails on my local iMac - and I did - and it works.....
But what is the point of an IMAP account ?? I need to work at two locations and synch the accounts ...
I found mention of this elsewhere on Google... but cannot see any fix.
(I have all updates downloaded and installed on the iMac as of this afternoon)

Jun 27, 2014For the second time in less than a month, all my older than 1 week emails disappeared from the inbox. The ones from Sent or from my "On My Mac" folders are still there, but the Inbox has only 20 or so emails. I have an IMAP account that worked great so far.Â

Apr 5, 2007what's gone wrong with one of my POP accounts in Mail? I was curious that I had not received any messages on one account for a couple of weeks, but it's mainly mailing lists that go to that account and traffic is sometimes light so I didn't notice sooner. Once I realised I'd been missing postings, I eventually discovered a couple of hundred messages on the server that hadn't been downloaded by Mail, but I can't work out how to get them downloaded! If I select Get Info on the account in Mail, it tells me there are 198 messages on the server, and they are all marked as new, ie not downloaded yet. But checking for new messages results in no messages being detected.
I've tried disabling and re-enabling the account and changing the passwords to try to get Mail to recognise a change and check the account properly, but no luck so far.

Setup Mail.app as usual with a couple different email accounts.
Now, every time I open Mail it appears to download all my mail again (see pic). It takes a long time and mail isn't really that responsive.
Nothing on my server has changed.

OS X V10.4 :: Reinstall Mail And Recreate Email Accounts Without Losing Messages?
Feb 23, 2012We're using Mail 2.1.3 on a Mac Mini (OS 10.4.11), and having problems with email accounts misbehaving in Mail.We've been checking 6 accounts (2 gmail, 1 yahoo, 3 from US Cable). Now I've tried to add 2 new gmail accounts (we're losing the USCable accounts in a few days), and started having problems. Even though the settings in both new gmail accounts are correct, they will not send email via the smtp.gmail.com server, and give me the message:
"Cannot send message using the server smtp.gmail.com" and it asks me to send the message using a different server.
Additionally, as I've been trying to troubleshoot this, my 2 formerly working gmail accounts have both started not working. Connection Doctor says the login for one failed, and the smtp for the other "could not connect". Though Connection Doctor says that connection and login to server succeeded for the 2 new gmail accounts, it does not even list the smtp attempts for the new accounts. I've tried deleting and recreating the new email accounts within this main user's version of Mail several times, no success.
All the email accounts are using the POP protocol, and we don't want to change to IMAP (we have multiple users checking the same accounts from different devices). I've verified the settings being correct 2 ways: Setting them up on a different machine (my MacBook running Mail 3.6, OS X 10.5.8) and on the same machine via a newly-made user on the Mac Mini. Both ways can send and receive mail just fine from these new email accounts.
I think something's hopelessly corrupted, and that I need to somehow reinstall the Mail program, or at least get rid of all the accounts and preferences or whatever needs to be deleted, and recreate all the email accounts again. How can I do this, without losing our many messages that we have filed in a number of folders?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mac Mail Constantly Downloading Messages (iCloud)?
Jul 2, 2012I recently did the mobileme to icloud swtich to keep my me.com email.Since Snow Leopard doesn't have an iCloud option and the MobileMe account option no longer works, I had to switch to create a new IMAP account with all of iCloud's server info.Ever since, the mac mail.app has been downloading messages practically non-stop.Every few minutes it will download 5000+ messages and growl notifications will fill up my screen. My mail folder is currently at 20gb and growing. I know there isn't that much mail data on the server as I originally had my mobileme limit set much lower. I tried deleting the account and creating a new one again, however it still happens.Â

Oct 20, 2009I find this maddening and have searched high and low for help, so hopefully you've got an answer.
In my Mail.app I have two accounts, one for personal email and one for work email. I also have a local mailbox titled "Submitted Forms." I receive forms from coworkers as PDFs in my work email account. I have a Mail rule established so that any email coming into my work email account meeting certain criteria (having an attached form, specified by name) is moved to the local mailbox "Submitted Forms." That all works fine. What I am trying to achieve, ideally using an applescript run by the rule, is to have any message that gets moved into that mailbox save its attachment to the desktop (or other destination folder). I have tried over a dozen similar-but-different example applescripts I've found online that claim to do this, but none seem to work. I've also tried tweeking each one with my limited knowledge of applescript to no avail. It really cannot be that hard for the computer to say "hey, there's a new message in that folder, I'll save its PDF to my desktop." Can it?
This is the basics of my goal. Ideally, the applescript/rule/computer would add the Received Date to the attachment name and would know whether it had already saved a given email's attachment(s), so as to reduce overwriting, possibly through read-status or flagging.

May 31, 2012I have an IMac desktop, a MacBook & a 4th generation IPod Touch. As it now stands whenever I receive email it goes to all 3 devices necessitating the need to physically read and/or delete the messages from all 3 devices. Is there some way to configure Mac Mail to eliminate these steps or do I just have to keep manually removing mail messages as I'm now doing?

Since some weeks, Mail is behaving odd: some messages are sent automatically to the archive folder. That's quite annoying, as I have to move them manually back to the inbox folder, and sometimes I mess some messages. I did not change any config in Apple Mail or my e-mails servers.

Dec 9, 2014I have been cleaning up my Gmail account through the web browser the past couple of days, I have over 6000 messages spanning 8+ years (I know, that's terrible). When I delete or archive a message in Gmail web browser one one computer, and then go back to my main computer where I use Mail, it still shows over 7000+ emails and doesn't seem to be syncing (or deleting) the messages I have done on the web browser side. It is set up with IMAP and syncs new messages fine. It even deletes new messages that come in and are deleted, just not these old ones.Â
Do I need to delete the account on my Mac and recreate it? If so, should I also delete all mail contents in the Library Mail folder?Â

Jun 30, 2012The Apple Mail on my son's iMac 5, running OS X 10.6.8, shows the number of unread messages (9), but if I click on InBox, the messages themselves don't show up in the main window. This suddenly happened, and none of his old, read messages show up either. But he can access them just fine from his iPod, or through his Network Solutions web mail interface. Also, in Mail we can search part of his email address, and all the messages show up, read and unread! He has no rules set up. The connection doctor shows the connection is fine.
