View 6 RepliesI've got some PDFs I'm trying to compile into one single PDF file. I'm using an automator script which is working well, except for the fact that the resultant PDF's page sizes are all over the place some are huge whereas others are pretty tiny...
Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a way to combine PDFs and not have the pages sizes turn out weird? The PDFs are from different sources (some have been scanned at various resolutions, some are word documents that were printed to PDF from within OS X) so that could be the reason, but I'm just looking for a solution atm.
why all the documents I've made on pages, exported to pdf and sent to windows users can't be opened at the other end? Pages is great for formating docs, but I'm about to give up on it as nobody seems to EVER be able to open it! If I export it as a .doc it loses the format. Thanks.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Preview to separate pdf pages into separate pdf documents. How might I do the reverse. Preview appears to have combined the documents in the thumbnail, but will not allow saving this. It just saves the highlighted page.

Guys I'm having one slight problem. I have iWork 09, and when I try to export PDF the pdf looks really bad on 100% zoom. 125% is quite OK, though still not perfect. When I preview the document in PDF,it looks perfect. However when I export it, characters aren't inline and look weird. Who knows why this might be? I have an imac 2.66 ghz bought in October if that's of any use.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe title says it all. Pages 09 is intermittently hanging (spinning beachball) when I try to save or export a document. It doesn't happen EVERY time, so I can't reproduce it, but it's happened several times in the past few days. I'm running Snow Leopard on an original Intel iMac. Everything is updated to the latest versions. What might be causing this or how to stop it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedExport a Pages document to PDF or Word .doc always hides the extension in Finder. During the export, I have unselected "Hide extension" and it does show in the name dialog box, but listed in Finder, it's hidden. When I attach the doc through Gmail, the extension gets picked up, but some other web uploads it does not. I cannot get it to stop. Sure, I can Cmd+I and unhide the extension in Finder, but I shouldn't have to do that. As far as I can tell, it shouldn't hide. Finder is set not to hide extensions, too.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to export my Page document into a RTF file and it doesn't have the option for me to do so in the File>Export options.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a complete noob when it comes to Pages (iWork'05), and I'm editing my first newsletter which is supposed to go out to 300 people by e-mail. However, when I export it to pdf, the file size is 22.8mb! For 6 pages!
I've chosen the Extreme newsletter template (red one), and I have 6 pages in total. The only reason I can think of why it's so big is that when i drag and drop photos into the photo-boxes, the image isn't scaled down at all, not even when I export it to pdf. Is that right? It's only about 1 or 2 photos per page, and I have two pages with three small photos and a larger photo at the bottom. Anyone got some insights?
just a short question: Can anybody tell me a program/way to export my PAGES document to a PDF with all the used fonts and graphics embedded? I want that it looks exactely the same on e.g. a Windows computer on which the used fonts aren't installed. Unfortunately, even the Word exporting fuction of Pages doesn't seem very reliable - or do I do something wrong? I sometimes even lose bold/italic format etc. Very strange ... Anyway, I need a way to send somebody this text either as a Word or PDF file which won't make problems and look the same.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently downgraded from a 128GB SSD model to a 120GB HDD Rev Air. However, I learned after the fact that there are in fact NO aftermarket hard drives of any sort for the Air because of it's SATA - LIF connector. Given the fragility of the 1.8 inch HDD, this pretty much means we're all going to have a very nice lookin' paperweight after the warranty runs out. Does anyone know if ANY company is going to release an aftermarket SATA - LIF HD? It seems unlikely since the Rev B air is the only notebook that uses it... if that's the case I'll probably end up selling this computer despite how much I like it
View 21 Replies View Relatedi wrote a thread last week about some pixel issues. i've now figured out the cause of the faint pixel lines that have mysteriously begun to appear on the far left part of my screen. the pixel lines appear where i have had application windows up for an extended amount of time. saturday i had safari open for only an hour or two and a line developed on the left edge of the window, which remained there for several hours afterwards. i've also noticed lines develop on the bottom of the window as well. the pixel lines stay burned in for a couple hours and then slowly fade to normal. this makes my claim a little more tricky i think.
i've tried switching from a dark desktop background to a lighter grey, but the ghost lines still manage to show up if the computer gets used for more than just a brief period of time.
it's annoying and will probably only get worse, so i think it's time to head up to the apple store. what are my chances of them repairing/replacing my iMac? (it's less than a year old and therefore under warranty.)
So i've recently gotten in the uploading to YouTube craze with my Flip Mino HD but i'm not too happy at the way i've been doing this and am hoping there is an easier way.
As of late i've been importing what i film into iMovie. In iMovie i'll edit the video to my liking. In iMovie i'll "export" to the media browser so it'll show up in GarageBand. Then i'll open GarageBand and edit my film further, dealing with sound; adding music. After that i'll export it as a .MOV to my desktop. Then i'll open iMovie again and import that .MOV file and from there in iMovie will have it upload to YouTube in its original HD format.
I have been creating multiple encrypted .dmg's from folders of various sizes (and selecting the "read/write" option to allow changes.
What determines how much I can add to one of my created .dmg's? Sometimes when I try adding a file it says right off the bat that the .dmg is full. Other times I am able to add gigs until it says it's full.
Is there any way I can make an unlimited space .dmg and just keep adding to it?
I want to set up an encrypted proxy and i am not sure how to do it. Also i am not trying to just shield what i search i want to be able to use it systemwide.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm in a situation where I have a file (specifically, a pages document) that I want to encrypt with a password, and in the best of cases, hide it from spotlight searches and such.Any ideas on how to achieve this? Please consider that I have to constantly open, view and edit the archive at times, so a disk image, zip or rar file won't work for me.
I thought FileVault, but I don't really want all of my files with password, and it gave me the "not enough space on disk error" when I tried to do it anyways.I'm assuming this service is available in the OS itself, but I haven't been able to find it just yet. Or can anyone tell me of a program that allows that option without having to leave Finder?
I am looking for a Mac program that is encrypted that can be used to store data such as passwords, personal information, business information, and other information that needs to be secure. I like Bento and just upgraded to Bento 2 but there is no password protection. I have a password to log onto my Mac but I know it's not 100% secure and I'm looking for security as high as 448 bit. A password vault type of program would be nice but I want something that has additional database features. I have done a lot of work on Google but have not been able to find anything.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy roommate and I want to put together a Mac- or Linux-based file server. I have an old iBook lying around, so it can either run Mac OS X 10.3, or some version of Yellow Dog Linux. (I'd prefer to keep it a Mac system.) I can set up our router to push requests on a certain port to that laptop, with a static IP, but we're concerned with file safety. We're going to be keeping all our personal information on there including any code projects, pictures, homework, etc. My roommate attends university, and will be accessing the server from the uni. wireless network. As such, privacy/encryption is a big concern for us. (We don't want people packet sniffing and getting any personal information or data.)
Does anyone have any suggestions for setting up this kind of server? Hopefully it will be a fun project.
i'm having trouble decompressing this multi part (.zip and .z01-.z03) files becuase i eitehr get an issue with the file not beinga supported archive or something along those lines usually.
ive tried about 6 different decompression applications without much luck. i have a password for the files but havent been prompted to use it.
I'm trying to set up a new partition scheme for all my storage. I just purchased another drive and will buy a 1 or 1.5TB drive next week. I'd like to encrypt certain partitions. Please read on...
Hopefully someone can help me. This is my current setup:
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/disk0s2 465Gi 407Gi 58Gi 88% /
devfs 113Ki 113Ki 0Bi 100% /dev
Plato is my iPod - I use 40GB for music, the rest for backing up files.
Wittgenstein is my backup. I exclude backups of ~/Music, another big DIR and ~/Movies and it has room to backup everything else.
I also have an 8GB USB stick that I've named "mnemosyne".
What I am purchasing. I am waiting for my new 500GB 7200 drive to arrive, which will replace the current 500GB main drive. I also purchased a 32GB flash drive.
What I'm getting in the near future. I'm purchasing a 1TB or 1.5TB internal drive and building an external HDD from it within the next two weeks. I'd like to split it to 500GB for backups, the rest for media storage. I'd like to encrypt my current /System dir, my ~/Documents and all preferences from my my Applications.
I've heard filevault is prone to errors. Is this true? Are there any other full disk encryption options for mac? Would dm-crypt work through macports without corrupting my filesystem? Can I use truecrypt and create an encrypted container of say (what is now) ~/Documents
Creating the partition scheme
Questions
1) Can I resize a partition once I've created it if there's physical space left on the HDD?
2) Should I leave some space without a partition? Or should I just name it something benign and use it as a "dropbox"
3) What options do I have for encryption on a mac?
4) Is filevault prone to errors? Any benchmarking tests out there?
5) Can I use dm-crypt through macports and have a FDE setup that won't fail because it's through macports and not native? In other words, I realize all encryption schemes can fail, but I'd like to minimize risk.
6) How would I have some movies on my main HDD and others on the external volume? Is that possible? Or would I need to create two partitions for that? So, say, I want to store 40GB of everything that is currently in ~/Movies on my main HDD. Just create a partition for that, and then another partition on the external volume at 210GB?
7) How do I create separate partitions in mac?
8) How do I easily mount all partitions from all hard drives?
9) Is rsync and a script my best option for encrypting backups since Timemachine has no security whatsoever for backups?
10) What filesystem should I use? (I'm only using OS X on my macbook)
11) Any sample partition map you could share with me that will help me build this properly?
12) How do I set up a link so Mac OS X will read the partitions like they are now and display over on the left side of Finder.app as they show now? I.e. a list of Desktop, $username, Applications, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures
I am trying to make some backups of some of my DVD collection. I am using Toast to attempt to burn the VIDEO_TS, but of course it complains about the encryption which is fair enough.I have trying using Mactheripper and also SimplyBurns with no success.Does anyone have a definitive guide on how to burn encrypted VIDEO_TS to DVD-R on OSX?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided not to use just one partition with my disk because i wanted to separte important documents from the OS and apps so reformated my disk with 2 partitions 1 for OS and apps and one for docs. I also wanted to keep the docs partition secure so it was my intention to use filevault... however it learned that file vault would only work on my whole disk and not on a sigle volume. At least thats the only option i get when i go to "Turn on FileVault" in the Security and Privacy of system preferences. So what i tried next was to reformat the "docs" partition i have created using the Mac OS extended (journaled) encrypted option. This option seemed to work but after formating the partition, I could not mount the volume.
Question is: what is the best way for what i am trying to do and how to do it.
a) is there a way to use FileVault on a single volume instead of the whle disk?
b) alternatively, how to format an encrypted partition and mount it?

When copying a table from say a webpage or even a RTF file, Pages does not retain its table formatting. Instead it separates the rows and columns and puts them on separate lines.
See it for yourself, try copying one of the tables on this page into Pages [URL]
The only way I can get the table into Pages is to paste into NeoOffice (which retains the correct formating), save the file with the .doc extension then open in Pages.
How do I stop Pages from opening all former documents when I try to start a new Pages document?

Are any of you having this problem? Yesterday I installed the most recent patch from Apple in my Macbook Pro, cant remember the number of it, sorry about that. Today I noticed a serious fault in my computer. When Im trying to access any website that is supposed to be encrypted (ie. Paypal, banks, etc) they arent encrypted or are only partially encrypted. I am pretty sure that this wasnt happening before. I havent installed any software recently and everything was working fine until yesterday, the day I installed the security update. So I guess its not a coincidence. When I try it on Firefox the websites are not encrypted and when I try it on Safari I get a warning from Safari saying that it cant recognise the certificate or that is invalid. Any of you have experienced this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have recommendations for MacOS (10.6) backup software that meets the following?
I am also interested to learn if rsync (or even better -- an rsync front end) is capable of doing all these things?
*** Gotta haves ***
- STABLE & Proven
- Encrypted backups (AES-128 or better)
- Ability to backup filevault user data, while user is logged in
- Ability to exclude filevault sparse images
- Decent scheduling capabilities
- Allows file/folder/volume exclusions and/or includes
- Backup of clients on the network (prefer multi-platform)
- Some level of file/media validation
is there a way to use it on a Macbook / Macbook Pro?
It's idle curiosity at this stage, but something that I wondered about.
