MacBook Pro :: Websites Not Encrypted - Can't Recognize Certificate

Are any of you having this problem? Yesterday I installed the most recent patch from Apple in my Macbook Pro, cant remember the number of it, sorry about that. Today I noticed a serious fault in my computer. When Im trying to access any website that is supposed to be encrypted (ie. Paypal, banks, etc) they arent encrypted or are only partially encrypted. I am pretty sure that this wasnt happening before. I havent installed any software recently and everything was working fine until yesterday, the day I installed the security update. So I guess its not a coincidence. When I try it on Firefox the websites are not encrypted and when I try it on Safari I get a warning from Safari saying that it cant recognise the certificate or that is invalid. Any of you have experienced this?

OS X Leopard :: Certificate In Keychain Access - Can't Select Certificate
I have obtained three certificates I have to use to access my corporate exchange server and imported them into the login keychain as directed. They do show up in the "certificates" category of the login keychain but not in the "my certificates" category. This is the category that Entourage looks for when allowing me to select a certificate. As a result, I can't select the certificate I need.

MacBook Pro :: First USB Port Won't Recognize IPhone 3GS But Does Recognize Other IPods?
I have an iPhone 3GS running the latest 4.0 beta OS.

I also have the latest 17" MacBook Pro which I use to administer my iPhone.

The problem I am having is iTunes does not recognize my iPhone when it is plugged into the first USB port (next to the mic input). The System Profiler however DOES list the iPhone under the USB section.

If I plug the iPhone into the other two USB ports it is recognized just fine in iTunes.

All of my other iPod devices work just fine with all USB ports.

Sometimes when I plug my iPhone into the first USB port iTunes thinks for about 30 seconds then says something like...

"An iPhone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone then try again"

MacBook Aluminum :: Super Drive Won't Recognize DVD's But Will Recognize CD's.
My optical drive won't recognize any DVD's. It doesn't matter what kind of DVD, it won't recognize any. I was watching a movie one day about a month ago. The movie ended, I ejected the disk and put another disk in. It wouldn't recognize it. It jsut let it spin a few times, stopped, and spit the disk back out. I thought it might just be the disk. I put another one in. Same thing. I tried the disk I'd been watching just minutes before. Same thing. I tried a number of movies I've watched on the computer many times and it does the same thing. The thing I'm worried about is my warranty ran out about a week before this started. Has anyone had to have their drive replaced? How much did it end up costing and how long did they keep your machine? I use mine for business and really can't be without it. Has anyone figured out a simple fix for this issue? Beow is my drive information.

OS X Leopard :: How To Replace THAWTE Certificate By VERISIGN Certificate
These day millions of user receive an e-mail "Important Thawte Personal E-mail Certificate Holder Notice - Thawte Personal E-mail Certificates and Web of Trust are being discontinued".

The message comes with a special offer from VeriSign giving you a full year of VeriSign digital certificate fro free which seems to be a fair offer (I think normal price is around 20$ per year).

Enrollment and installation of the new certificate is well described and worked perfectly: you'll end up with a brandnew certificate from VeriSign in your Key Chain - BUT...

Mail keeps on encrypting with the old one from THAWTE and Address Book shows in your own record that your mail address is still linked to the old certificate.

Some users will just delete the old one - DON'T DO THIS - because you might find out that all your old encrypted mail that you received earlier won't be readable any longer.

I din't find a way to select the new certificate for the encryption of outgoing mail and I gues there thousands of former THAWTE & Mac users who are trying to find the solution.

OS X Leopard :: MacBook Pro Won't Automatically Sleep After Visiting Certain Websites
Everything works fine with one annoying problem: after visiting certain websites, the 'Book won't go to sleep by the rules set in Energy Saver. I believe the usual culprit is the Sports Illustrated site, which is heavy on mixed video and automated ad content. Similar sites, like ESPN, don't seem to trigger the problem, but it may be more than just SI. The problem persists even after I quit the browser.

It does not seem to matter whether I use Safari or Firefox. It does sleep normally on manual command, and it wakes normally under all circumstances. It does not matter whether I have it plugged in to the power adapter or just running on battery power. It will return to it's normal Energy Saver sleep behavior only after a restart. There are no external devices attached. It does not seem to matter whether other software is running. This started happening several months back, and the only software that was added at about that time was the System Preference "Keyclick.prefPane".

Safari :: 'Cannot Verify Certificate Of Server'
1. Very recently I keep getting the message 'Cannot verify certificate of server' on a great number of webpages on my mac, including this apple site.   This has been around the time of getting an iPhone, perhaps a coincidence?    I have never seen this message before.  I press 'continue' however it's getting a bit annoying.

2.  Also, since getting this message my facebook page cannot load properly on safari (mac).  It comes up mis-aligned on the page, in times new roman font,   with no colour or logos/images.  This is around the time of changing the password of my facebook account via my iPhone, again, not sure if this is a coincidence. I'm on snow leopard 10.6.8.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Recognize Working HD
My Macbook Pro recently froze on me, so I shut down the computer and when I turned it on there was no recognition of my HD. Originally I thought my Hard Drive crashed, and was no longer working, but when I tried it in an External hookup, it worked perfectly and all my data and applications were still on there and working. I got a replacement HD and tried to install it, but still the same problem. I went into Disk Utility from my install disk and tried to install the new HD and I tried it with the old one after I realized it was working fine, and neither of them are recognized. They are not shown in DU, only my CD drive is shown with the Install disk in it. Does anyone know what may have happened? I can't imagine it is anything other than a wiring problem or something else. Apple will not look at my computer or even talk to me because my warranty just recently expired, so I have to pay them just to talk to me. I have searched online everywhere possible to see if anyone had the same problems and I can't find anything. I can't believe apple is so cheap that they need me to pay them just to tell them my problem let alone fix it.

MacBook Pro :: Won't Recognize External HD
I have viewed a number of topics on external HD's that can't be recognized, but can't seem to find an answer to my problem. I own a WD 500GIG External passport drive, that has worked with my MAC since I purchased it. All of a sudden yesterday when I plugged it into my macbook (in the same slot I always plug it in) I got the USB port is drawing too much power. I immediately checked forums around the net and people were saying the mother board needs replaced. Well I have a mac mini at work an a second macbook pro at home. I plugged the same HD into all three computers and got the drawing too much power.

One of my macbook pro's has firewire 800 so I tried to connect the drive using that, but now it just doesn't recognize. The lights flash on the drive as if it's mounted properly, but I can't get my computer to recognize the drive. I've been through disk utility and the drive does not show up there. I have ordered a firewire 800 to 6pin cable to attempt to connect it that way, but other than that I'm out of luck I think. I can't even get a computer to recognize the drive in order to reformat it. Has anyone ever had this problem before? If so what steps did you use to resolve it, that is if you were able to.

MacBook Pro :: It Doesn't Recognize Password
my GF and a glass of Wine. Cat hits wine and wine hits MBP. The Mac shut off instantly, we acted pretty quick and mopped up and turned upside down. I then took back off and over the course of the next 5 days I have stripped it down completely including the Key board and cleaned as best as I could. I've put it all back together and it starts up, a reassuring tone rings out, then apple sign appears with a loading bar beneath, this takes a while then it reaches the Lion log in page.It still recognizes me, or rather my name as the user but refuses my password which I know is correct. The keyboard isn't backlit but keys are typing something (can't see characters, just dots). Screen brightness works. No back light on keys although this may be normal at this point, not sure.

MacBook Pro :: It Won't Recognize New HDD
I'm having a problem with my MBP and am stumped; I hope someone has a solution.  Here's the backstory (please bear with me; this may be a bit long in order to give you all the details). My keyboard croaked, and the 160gb hard drive was filling up, so I thought I would replace both and add more RAM while I had the beast opened up.  So I did all that, successfully (I think).  Prior to taking out the HD, I backed it up using Time Machine.  The MBP was running Leopard.  I have the original 10.4.8 disc, after which I updated to 10.5.8.

After swapping out the keyboard, drive and adding RAM, I fired the system up and it worked!  So I inserted the Install disc, went to Disc Utilities and formatted and partitioned the 750gb new drive.  When I asked the system to install the OS, it chuckled at me and did nothing.  The new partitions are on the desktop, but the Install disc doesn't recognize them.  I plugged my external drive in (the one that has the Time Machine backup...), restarted the MBP, and it booted from the Western Digital external drive. how can I get the system to recognize the new drive and install the OS on it?

MacBook Pro :: Installation DVD Doesn't Recognize New HD
I bought Unibody MBP 2.8GHz/Ram 4GB/HD 320GB@7200RPM from Apple. I use it just fine until I got a new G.SKILL TITAN SSD 128GB from friend. I replaced 320GB@7200 (the one that came with my MBP) with this new SSD 128GB. The problem is Apple Installation DVD didn't see this new HD at all. I go to Disk Utilities (in the installation process) it show only DVD-Rom and didn't show any HD at all.

Note:
1. If I restart machine with Vista CD, it can see this HD and can install fine.
2. If I boot to Leopard with external HD, my Leopard 10.5.6 Disk Utilities can see this HD fine too. I can format it. re-partition it etc.

MacBook Pro :: Doesn't Recognize Airport Extreme
I've posted this problem in other thread but so far hasn't solved the problem. Maybe someone in here has the same problem.

My MBP is unable to detect my AirPort Extreme wirelessly, but detect it when I connected them with the ethernet cable. So I did and tried resetting the base station to default settings. The minute I unplugged the Ethernet cable of my MBP, the AirPort Extreme icon in the AirPort Utility apps disappeared.

I tried many times rescanning it but to no avail.

However, my AirPort detect the network that I created, but it won't connect to it.

The hardware itself, the AirPort Extreme, seemed to be working fine. My internet connection is fine too. I'm currently stealing my neighbor's Wi-Fi connection, just to check if my MBP could connect to other network, and it did.

Does anyone have any idea of what might be the problem... my MBP vs. my AirPort Extreme base station?

MacBook Pro :: Won't Recognize Hard Drives
I just recently bought a Macbook Pro about 2 weeks ago. Everything's been working great up until today. First I noticed that my MBP wouldn't recognize my phone when I plugged it into the USB. (Its an Android phone - don't bash me for it) I just thought it was my phone at first. A couple hours later I tried transferring some files to my external hard drive (1TB iomega) and my MBP wouldn't recognize it. I plugged in another one of my external HD (320 GB Maxtor), same problem. I then tried my other external HD (500 GB Western Digital), same problem. I tried a different USB port, different cord, rebooting the mac, nothing seems to be working. It will recognize my ipod touch tho. Being that its happening on 4 different devices, I doubt its the devices themselves. Its not the cord because I tried 2 different ones, 3 if you count the one for my phone which uses micro USB.

I am very new to the mac world so other than the things I have tried already, I don't have a clue what to try next. Oh yea, one more thing, all my hard drives are formatted for pc being that I just recently bought my MBP, I had all these hard drives before my mac. And they have all connected fine to my MBP in the past week or so.

MacBook Pro :: Doesn't Recognize External Harddrive
my mac book pro is not recognizing my WD 500 GB external hardrive. I checked and double checked to make sure the external was mac compatible before I bought : and it was. It also is not recongizing an WD external hardrive I borrowed from a co-worker.  Here is what I have done and checked so far.

- I checked to see if the externals worked on other Mac Pros( just to double check mac compatibility)-  they showed up on on 4 different Mac books.

- I checked to see if  there was something wrong my usb ports. So I incerted my 4 GB flash drive in the USB port, and then my co-workers 4GB  Flashdrive-  My computer recognized both the devices.

-  My computer was very full ( that is why I bought a bigger hardrive to back up my files) so  I thought  maybe there just wasnted even enough free space for my computer to recongize the devices. So I freed up 70GB of hardrive space on my mac book. - still nothing.

- I also checked to make sure  I had the suggested software updates to run the drive, before I bought it.

MacBook Pro :: It Won't Recognize USBs Mounted Any More
I'm now running 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro and last night when I plugged in my external hard drive or a dongle, it didn't come up on the desktop. I tried both USB ports and different dongles - nothing. Yet every time I unplugged I got the warning message that unplugging a disc without ejecting via the Finder could lose files on the disc. The Disc Utility can see the USBs and I've tried repairing and verifying the disc it sees - nothing. I've restarted and shut down on separate occasions and on another re-set SMC by removing the battery - nothing. So basically, it's 'seeing' the USB but not putting it on the desktop graphically so I can't see any files on the USB or save anything to it.

I only updated to 10.6.8 a couple of weeks ago and though I haven't had any issue like this till last night, I can't think of anything else that has changed with my set-up.
