I recently downgraded from a 128GB SSD model to a 120GB HDD Rev Air. However, I learned after the fact that there are in fact NO aftermarket hard drives of any sort for the Air because of it's SATA - LIF connector. Given the fragility of the 1.8 inch HDD, this pretty much means we're all going to have a very nice lookin' paperweight after the warranty runs out. Does anyone know if ANY company is going to release an aftermarket SATA - LIF HD? It seems unlikely since the Rev B air is the only notebook that uses it... if that's the case I'll probably end up selling this computer despite how much I like it
I'm assuming that a MBP purchased with 4Gb will have 2x2. If I wanted 8Gb, I assume the only option would be to buy 8Gb (4x4) and replace the 2x2. Is there a market for the 2x2 I would be removing from the MBP? What do most people do with this RAM that they replace?
I'm planning to get a 17" MBP whenever they update. I've been toying with the idea of getting an SSD as well to reduce IO contention with some applications. Would I be better served getting the Apple SSD option for whatever ludicrous amount of money they want, or would it make more sense to get one from NewEgg and install it myself? I'm curious about this not so much from a technical standpoint (I'm comfortable doing my own hardware swap), but rather from a "what kind of grief am I likely to get about voiding AppleCare if I have to have the new machine serviced down the road?
Will be using my new 500GB 5400 rpm as an external and wanted feedback on the best aftermarket 7200rpm drive. Price / Speed / Battery Impact. I would appreciate some info from all you techies.
I am considering a purchase of a 17" unit. I will probably buy a base unit and then upgrade the memory and possibly the HDD myself (this is largely driven by procurement transaction limits). Is there experience here in adding a SSD to the 17in? I could manage with 256Gb, but have 500Gb drives reached the market yet?
I love my year old MBP. However on campus I've noticed that when using it in class and outside or in a restaurant, the glare is awful. I wish I had gotten the AG screen, but I do not want to sell mine and buy another. What is the best screen shield that I can put on my notebook?
So the temp of my hard drive has been 34 degree F for since I put in my SSD. I was searching and found this [URL] Does the MBP have something along these lines that need to be reconnected or is the temp sensor actually built into the hard drive and not used on an SSD because it can run hotter?
i wrote a thread last week about some pixel issues. i've now figured out the cause of the faint pixel lines that have mysteriously begun to appear on the far left part of my screen. the pixel lines appear where i have had application windows up for an extended amount of time. saturday i had safari open for only an hour or two and a line developed on the left edge of the window, which remained there for several hours afterwards. i've also noticed lines develop on the bottom of the window as well. the pixel lines stay burned in for a couple hours and then slowly fade to normal. this makes my claim a little more tricky i think.
i've tried switching from a dark desktop background to a lighter grey, but the ghost lines still manage to show up if the computer gets used for more than just a brief period of time.
it's annoying and will probably only get worse, so i think it's time to head up to the apple store. what are my chances of them repairing/replacing my iMac? (it's less than a year old and therefore under warranty.)
I am going to be getting a iMac, but am struggling with the decision on getting the ssd option. Who here is going to be modding it and adding their own? Is the new one supposed to be harder to mod then the last model?
My Macbook is just over a week old and when I put it down onto a surface it makes a click noise which sounds to come from either the superdrive or somewhere around there! It sounds like a mechanical noise not something from the speakers! Is this normal or should I get it looked at?
I bought a new 17 inch MBP tonight. When it started up, it made a very odd sound that was similar to a CD/DVD being processed or ejected.I thought maybe it was a one time thing, but since restarting it a few times, it's made the same sound each time.Is this normal? I've never heard it before. It's like there's a CD or DVD in there, but of course there isn't.
i have the newest macbook pro and i ordered one on the day they were launched. I noticed that when i pick up and move the laptop while it is in use, i hear a noise, almost sounds like a fan is rubbing on something. Do others experience this same thing and is it something to worry about? the noise is feint but it's there.
I bought a new MacBook Pro a few days ago, and it randomly makes this beeping sound. It's not like a problem noise and it comes from speakers. A bit something like a Skype sound, but it's not Skype...
While I use it, my Macbook Air will make strange rattling noises. It is quite audible and seems to be comming from the upper left corner (not the screen but the part the keyboard is on). Should I take it to Apple store?
my one key when pressed brings up the brightness which then scrolls all the way to black. I have to close the lid and open then press F2 ti get my brightness back.
On random movements or just when putting pressure on it while typing, my 13 MBA makes light cracking noises which I'm sure are coming from the tiny bolts that run all along the sides of the bottom.
I know some have reported to make creaking noises, but mine isn't at that stage... yet.
I noticed that when I close the lid at night and open in the morning..my MBA boots normally as if it was shut down..It made my outlook pst file corrupt 2 times... ( I use the outlook 2003 under parallels with XP )As far as I know..closing the lid should make it sleep... It was like this..but now I guess its forcing shutdown...
- When I clean the screen with the included cloth or any cleaning cloth, the screen makes a clicking noise. As if it's like not flushed against the bezel. This only happens on the left part of the screen from, top to bottom. If I wipe in the center, no problem at all. I was wondering if anyone of you is experiencing the same problem? Btw, I also have the lines, but its very faint and I don't notice it as much as the my 3rd replacement Air, which I exchanged for this one. The Apple Store said that if I had any more line problems with this one, they won't replace it anymore and they would just try and replace the screen. I don't know if my problem is a common one and worth it to send my computer out to get its screen replaced, and who knows, maybe the replacement screen might have the lines and that's why I'm worried about getting the screen replaced, in addition to being out of my laptop for a couple of days.
I recently started doing a bunch of music importing on my rev. a 1.8 ssd. I must say I am quite impressed with the ~24x apple lossless import speeds I am seeing. this ssd kicks butt. Its quite a bit faster than my old 2.4 imac or white macbook.
here's a really stoopid question, but I'm a total novice and NOT tech savvy at all, so bear with me. Why does my 13" white macbook make a funny whirring noise sometime? It happens when I'm viewing video clips. I've only had it a couple of months. I don't know anything the inner workings of laptops. Is there something wrong with it, or is this normal?
I'm using a USA Macbook Pro in China and noticed that when I plug in the power which is 220 volts the laptop vibrates. I do not feel this vibration while I use my laptop in the USA which uses 110 volts. I've also had problems with my USA hard drives vibrating and even Final Cut Pro being very unstable while using it in China. I was wondering whether this vibration is normal and whether it could possibly harm my laptop.
I've had my 13inch MBP for almost 3 months now. I love it. However within the past month and a half the hard drive on when I press the button for the laptop to turn on makes a horrible sound. A mechanical sound of the hard drive..turning on or starting up or something. It's like, kinda embarrassing to turn it on in public cause it sounds like a disabled electronic robot baby yelling for help. When I first got my MBP when it turned on it did not make a noise at all. at all. but now all of a sudden it does? And let me tell you, when I had my original white macbook from 2006-early 2009 it began making the same noise in like mid-07. Therefore I know I'm not the only one to have ever heard this noise before.
I have had my MBP 13" since the day it was released. I have recently noticed that occasionally when i close the screen down, it makes a crunching squeky unclean sound. it doesnt sound normal!it only happens occasionally, noramally it doesnt have a sounds
I just noticed, that my MBP (mid 09) is making a very high pitched noise when it is turned off and the MagSafe connector is NOT plugged in.
I can only hear the noise when I put the computer close to my ear. The noise definitely comes from the MagSafe area.
It goes away when I click the battery indicator button on the side but returns shortly after the batteryindicator lights go out again.
Also, there is a ticking/clicking noise that I can hear when my Macbook is fully charged, turned off and the MagSafe is plugged in.
The noise is only there when the battery is at 100% (MagSafe light is green) the MagSafe light also seems to flicker very slightly but that's hardly visible (but definitly there)
both noises go away when the computer is turned on or in sleep.
