I have a 24" 2.66 bought in Oct 09 and it is current with updates. No matter what I do it will not stay asleep, even when I manually put in down with the power button it wakes a short time later. Is there no solution to this simple problem I know many experience?
So I've had this computer for a while and about a year or two ago, it started giving me problems. I would hear a loud short come from the screen and then I would see a quick line appear. It started getting worse as the month went on til the whole thing shorted out on me. Now all it does is turn on and shut right off with a loud and pretty frightful shorting sound and won't try to kick back on til an hour or two later (manually anyways). I did some research online and found out that my flyback transformer on my analog board shorted out due to heat constrictions inside the machine. And when that part shortes out, it take sthe video board along with it, since those two board are conjoined together, and in turn takes the whole system out. The wierd part is when I unplug the video cord and turn it on, their are no problems, only that My screen is still off, so it's like flying a plane with no instruments. I heard there is a way to replace the inside parts of the iMac and place a LCD screen in there but I'm not sure how that works out and if it will work anyways. Plus I just read that removing the CRT can be very dangerous. Grrr. I Need some advice. I'm a college student and don't have much $$$. If I did, I would have gotten a new MacBook. I wanna bring this mac back to life cause i miss it. Is there anyway I can do that? What would I need to do?
im completely new to Mac OS X and i was wondering if any of u guys could tell me some cool shortcut options. for example copy and paste. in windows it was cntrl c. and contrl v. but i guess that doesnt work in mac
My G5 tower is one of the early models. Today I turned it on. Immediately the drive bay fan was running at maximum speed. The Mac's temperature was cold as it had not been used for 12 hours. So the speeding fan could not have been due to the drive bay being overheated. The fan never slows down. Even after a restart it immediately spins at its maximum. Plus it stays at maximum speed all the time.
I don't know if this has been discussed here but all of a sudden my iMac, running Snow Leopard, 10.6.1) keeps waking up all on it's own. I believe this started after the latest update of Java and Super drive firmware (I believe these were the latest updates).
Is there anything I can do short of shutting the computer down.
Over the past few weeks, I've noticed problems with my PowerBook's headphone jack. The headphone plugs don't stay seated in the jack, resulting in loss of audio in either one ear or both until I adjust the plug, at which point it will almost always happen again. I usually end up having to hold the plug in place to get consistent sound from both ears.
At first, I thought it was just my headphones, so I borrowed a couple pairs from friends and ordered a backup pair from Amazon, all with the same results. I've peeked inside the jack once or twice and everything looks fine...but what do I know? I'll be in downtown Chicago tomorrow and Thursday, so I plan on making a trip to the Apple Store, but is there anything else I should try beforehand? As I recall, the PB headphone jack is part of the logic board, correct?
I've decided to reinstall OS X on my powerbook, but I'm having trouble. I can't partition or erase using disk utility from the cd. It says it's trying but it just sits there. When I try to do a erase and install, it stays at "preparing the disk".
My screen has become extremely floppy and it is pretty difficult to get it to stay up; if it does manage to do so it is at a pretty good slope. it's old and I have been tough on it, but was wondering how I would go about fixing this to the best of my ability? or. is this the kind of thing I have to take in for repairs?
After installing Mac OS Lion my iMac will not stay connected to wifi. I've read numerous discussion strings and this problem is pervasive with OS Lion. Apple needs to address this ASAP! Is there an answer discovered in the last few days?
My brand new iMac will not stay connected to wifi. When I try to open Safari it says a wifi connection does not exist. When I diagnose the problem it connects to my wifi before I even get a chance to choose a wifie network to diagnose. This happens every single time.
Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem with their i7 not staying asleep. worked wonderfully until the firmware update but not clear if that had anything to do with the change.
tried everything so far, from shutting down the magic mouse to unclicking network wake on demand.....no change...
I recently moved and am connecting my iMac (2006 Intel) via the internal Airport card to a high-speed cable network here at home.
For some reason, my connection started off fine but after a few hours (sometime minutes) of browsing the web, the connection will slow to a crawl or just stop completly.Â
I've tried changing the DNS settings, turning Airport off/on, re-booting the wireless router (it's a Netgear) all to no avail.
The connection will seem to be okay and then...back to the molasses slow or no connection at all. At my previous residence, I was connecting the same way without any issues.
As an aside, there are 2 iPads, 2 iPhones and a MacBook Air all connecting to the same network without any issues whatsoever.Â
I want to change my short name in my Mac. Since I bought it 2nd hand. I have 2 dvd installer. Is it possible to change short name if I will use these DVD installer? I tried changing it but I think I done wrong, so it actually messed up. I do also transferring previous home in my 2nd HDD and renamed it and I did it correctly but still I saw the name under User so I want totally to remove it.
I am thinking of buy a 60GB OCZ Vertex 2 (E) SSD for my 13" MBP, when I was doing research, I found in OCZ's technology forum that people complaining its lifespan drops a percent for every 3-4 days, so I am worried that if this is true, then it can last only a little bit more than a year, although I can get replacement under 3-years warranty, the time spend for re-installing system and migrate all my files is another problem. Also, I do programming, VM and Photoshop, plus web surfing and music, so there is lots of "writes" involved, I'm afraid it won't last a year.
Furthermore, keep watching its health status while using it is a painful experience as you see it dying slowly, similar to checking Load_Cycle_Count of HDD which is the reason I want to switch to SSD.
Anyone using OCZ SSD or other brands, can you share your experience and advice?
I put a DVD in my DVD drive and it has been ejected but the disk hasn't come out. I've restarted the computer, tried to put another disk in, etc. Is there any key combo or anything to force eject.
I notice that the advanced options in the Accounts prefpane include the ability to change an account's short name. Has anyone been brave enough to try this? How did it go?
I recently clean installed 10.5. I setup iChat with both AIM and Google Talk. Everything was running fine until now. When I start up iChat, the program logs in and out really fast until I receive this error message. "Could not connect to AIM... You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to login again." This happens over and over again.
Is there a key board short cut that allows me to to send a reply and not carry the message I got? I could got to pref. / uncheck "quote the text___". I would, if I can just hit a key or two instead.
I just got my MacBook last October and for some reason I have to open it to certain angles or I get a blank screen. Does anyone know why? Do you think I have some sort of short?
My short user name was "nic"I wanted it to be a capital. So "Nic"I'm OCD on things like this >.<" I couldn't help myself.[I'm one of those people that hasn't go a single file out of place and whose iTunes library is perfect]I Went to System Prefs > Accounts > Right Click on the account in questionAnd changed short name to "Nic"HOWEVER, I left the home directory as /users/nic thinking it wouldn't matter as it was only a case change.
My iTunes used to work fine, but today it started doing this. Whenever I'll play a song (this affects probably 1/5 songs), it'll start normally. Then, when there are about 30 seconds left, it'll skip to the next song without playing the last 30 seconds.Â
