I recently clean installed 10.5. I setup iChat with both AIM and Google Talk. Everything was running fine until now. When I start up iChat, the program logs in and out really fast until I receive this error message. "Could not connect to AIM... You have attempted to login too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to login again." This happens over and over again.
View 1 RepliesI have a 24" 2.66 bought in Oct 09 and it is current with updates. No matter what I do it will not stay asleep, even when I manually put in down with the power button it wakes a short time later. Is there no solution to this simple problem I know many experience?

Then for some reason when I try to open an application like iPhoto, or iTunes, or and external hard drive the system freezes up.I can still open up a browser such as Safari, or Firefox, but no applications not even the Finder. Yesterday, I ran a new Lion when rebooting my system but that didn't help. From the utilities I repaired the Mac drive.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook Air that I set up to connect to a shared drive on our university's network. I'm able to connect to it manually just fine after I've logged in, but I keep getting the following error every time I login: "Connection Failed: The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again."
Along with this comes a "?" in my dock, indicating the "share" drive cannot be found. I'm assuming I've pointed Leopard to an incorrect alias or something while I was figuring out how to connect to the share drive. How do I remove this instruction so the error message will just leave me alone?
One day I could log in to any site using firefox, the next I couldn't log into anything. I type the password and username, when I click on "log in" nothing happens. It says "done" at the bottom left, but nothing has happened. Safari works fine. I would just get by, however after creating a website in IWeb I discovered anything FTP related will not work.
I have tried lots of different FTP clients such as (Transmit, cyber duck, firezilla, cross ftp) but nothing works. The passwords etc are all correct as they work on my mac at work. The only change I've made is installing little snitch, however nothing is restricted related with anything that would affect the current problem. I have tried usual suspects such as deleting cookie, erasing private data etc.
At my uni campus they have wifi everywhere, but when you connect to it (which my mac does automatically) you have to go in through a login page before you can use it. How can i get it to login once it connects to the wifi (i do use other wifi connections which dont require login). There is no wifi password (just the login page). Other than for ease of use, the other reason i am doing this is because i am setting up my cam to take pictures of a thief if my mac were to be stolen (then upload to ftp). The more auto connected internet - the better.

I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.
I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.
I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.
MacBook running OSX 10.4.6 I am unable to log in. After presenting my password, error message is displayed: You are unable to log in to the user account "<name>" at this time. Well true but not helpful.
Boot from CD, boot in safe mode & re-install original operating system produces same error. Any advice will be appreciated.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just set up the Mail app but dislike that even after I quit the app if I click it again to reopen it it doesn't require me to re-enter my password. This means even if I close/quit it and walk away from my laptop anyone who uses it can just click Mail and they have complete access to my Gmail account.
I went into preferences but could not find where or how to require it to ask for my password after it's been closed. If there isn't an option then I will go back to copying an address when on a website then opening gmail and pasting it and emailing. Obviously using the Mail app would be more convenient for those types of emails but if it means my account is always open and available for anyone to read then I will go back to the longer method.
I'm sure many of you know how using bootcamp can cause slow startups when switching OS's because it has no cache to use. For example I'll be in Windows and then need to swap back over to Leopard to get something done, but it takes forever. The worst part is the list of login items... I've tried using scripts to separate them by 10 seconds or so, but nothing really made it faster. I was wondering if it was possible to login but cancel or disable the startup items for that login that one time... Sometimes I just need to login to grab something off the internet or something quick, but it takes me awhile because I have to wait for everything to load.
Do I make any sense? :P
And no, safe startup mode does not count. I don't want to disable the entire system... just the login items.
Every time I power up my Mac Pro, I get the attached message upon start-up.
If I click on 'Relaunch' it does nothing.
I have reported it, but nothing has changed.
Clicking on 'ignore' makes it go away, but it reappears every time I power up my CPU.
AppleCare didn't even know what it meant either!

I recently installed a new printer (Brother HL-5340D), which works fine.
But ...
Now every time I log in, the system asks me to "Choose the machine you want to install", and suggests the printer. (My previous printer was a Brother, and there was no problem)
I googled and found only Windows solutions; I searched this forum, and there was a welter of posts about printers.
What does one do on a Mac to stop the system from doing this?
I think i erased something i shouldn't have and my mac won't let me login. Its the correct password and I think I might need an installation disc.

I have a 2008 imac which has built in wireless. Is there some way to use the wireless to connect to internet while using the ethernet jack to connect to a different LAN so it can connect to a fileserver? Or if that isn't possible, can I join my LAN network to the one which provides internet access without having to change all my LAN addresses? My goal is to maintain a private gigabit LAN while getting internet from somebody else in my office.

Both had been working perfectly and even when my neighbour came over with his MacBook, we could quite easily network between the two computers and connect the two to the internet via the time capsule... Furthermore my MacBook air backed up regularly to the time capsule using time machine without a problem.
Problem. I got a new iMac and uploaded an imprint of my MacBook account and data onto it from the time capsule. I now cannot connect the two computers to the time capsule simultaneously, cannot network between them or cannot have both connected to the internet at the same time.. Furthermore, neither will back up to the time capsule using time machine. Very frustrating, because I know that it is something very simple causing this, but I am new enough to Mac and cannot resolve.
