I've got an old 12" Powerbook that isn't in use anymore, I've also got an external hard drive with all my movies, TV Shows etc. We run a wireless network through a bog standard router. Is it possible to connect the external HD to the powerbook, then browse and view (streaming them) all the media on my MacBook Pro?

View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything was ok until last night when I noticed this. I'm sure I didn't change anything manually in the network settings, but now I can't keep a connection for more than 10 mins. To get it back again I have to shut the airport connection (checking the diagnostics, I get a red light on the ISP circle,yellow on Internet and server) and that lasts me another 10 mins
so far I've tried sending pings, deleting this network entry and adding it back,changing the router position, but no luck. I'm able to check the router settings (tp link), but not sure what I should be looking for
the laptop works fine at my sister's place. It's just this network at home I'm having troubles with. the same thing happened all of a sudden with my imac,so I left the Ethernet cable connected to that, as it's right next to the router and it works fine.
My system is MacPro 2009 with 10.6.8 server and Apple RAID card. Last week, RAID util just notified me of one drive is not viable, so i decided to replace the drive today. The configuration of my system is... There is an Apple Raid Card for HW Raid system Bay 1 = 640 TB drive with Mac OS X 10.6.8 server installed Bay 2, 3, 4 = 1.5 TB drives set up as RAID 5 below is what I did to replace the degraded Bay 4...
1. I shut down the system
2. replaced the corrupted drive with the new hard drive
3. tried start the machine again.Now my machine refuses to start up with the blinking question mark... I guess that the system fails to recognize the new drive or cannot find the system files...
4. So I put back the degraded drive...
5. The machine still won't start...
6. I tried to use the 10.6 server installation disk to boot up the machine to check if I can fix the system via disk util; but, everytime I do this, I got kernel panic...
7. resetting PR Ram didn't help, cannot boot up via safe mode as well (since the system file is not accessible now, I guess...).
8. booting via 10.6.2 server installation DVD still gives me kernel panic...
Why would my system corrupt by just replacing one degrade drive? The Mac OS X is not even the part of the Raid system... How am I supposed to fix this issue with out the installation disk?

Anyone else use the System Server in OSXVnc to load the VNC server at start up before any users log in?This feature worked in Tiger but now in Leopard the process starts and at startup and quits right away. Anyone know how to work around this? I heard there will be a fix for it in the next release of Vine Server, but I was hoping someone knew a quick fix in the interim.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to reinstall my server becouse it got some issues. The problem is there is a active apple mail server on it. And we need to migrate all the mails and accounts to a new 10.7 installed mac. But since there is problems with the settings in the old one (deep down somewhere), we dont want to clone the whole system, just move the mail database and user accounts.
So I can export the OD directory to the new system. That should take care of the accounts. But does the mail db follow the export? Can I just copy the db files to the new system or will they not work with the new accounts?

I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.
After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....
He has a PowerBook G4 with OS 10.4 on it. He is in a house that has an HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 connected to a wireless print server, a D-Link DRP-1260. He cannot get the PowerBook to print anything. There are a couple of PCs that have connected and printed with no problem, but he cannot get the Mac to do so. I assume there is some setting that is wrong.

Four separate folders. I recently got an Airport Extreme for the sole purpose of accessing my photos wireless. I have a roommate in my apartment, who I plan to share the drives with, however, I would like to create some kind of read/write rule so that he cannot access anything on the (PHOTOS) folder. I've tried the app, "Hide Folders", which is great, but will not let me work on the folders while the folders are hidden. I need the PHOTOS folder to be visible, but not accessible by anything other than myself.
First post so bear with me. I use a 1Tb Time Capsule as my wireless router. On the other side of the room I have (wirelessly connected) my PS3, TV, Wii, and a Helios network media server. These are not all wireless N devices.
I also have a previous generation Airport Extreme.
Question. Can I wirelessly connect my Time Capsule to the Airport Extreme (on the same side of the room as the PS3, etc.) and then connect PS3, etc. to the Airport Extreme via the ethernet connections ?
If this is possible would I (as I hope) get better network throughput as the only wireless connection would be at N speeds ?
My new Mini sever is not recognizing my wireless keyboard. I get to the enter serial number stage with my wired mouse but cannot enter my serial number to proceed to registration stage. I have put new batteries in and restarted a number of times as well.Does anyone have any ideas or do I need a wired keyboard to proceed.;

I have tried to connect to a Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server. I cannot get any document to print to it. The computer recognizes both printers that are connected to it and will print to each one if they are directly connected to the computer, however, I am unable to connect to the print server. Has anyone done this? I have contacted both Apple and Netgear and no one at either place

When I install the software I get asked if I want to use its wireless connection as well. i click yes, and it asks me to verify the network. My network and a few others show up. My network shows up as having full signal, but when I click on it to be the chosen network I keep getting Network not with in range, but if i click any other one of the networks listed it finishes the process just fine. I am willing to own a network local sharing server in my University so, students can upload their multimedia files and movies etc to my mac using the local network of the university connection. Student will use torrents apps to download files from the server so they log to the website which I will create and they download the tracking file then they open it and use it to download the file from the server via torrent apps. My Macbook pro is 2.4 with 4g ram and with 380G HDD I own a new macbook pro late 2009 so I will not use the old one and I will keep it online 24/7. But I don't know if I can use it or not for this purpose.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSpotlight Crashes when Search Something (SystemUIServer Crashes Actually). Yesterday, I installed 10.6.4 from Updater. After everything is OK, I realized that problem. When I tried to seach something from Spotlight, I got the list without icons and after 2-3 seconds, menu closed and SystemUIServer restarts. Those are the reports from Console.
First I tried with Guest Account - Same Problem
I created new acount-First Search, No Problem, Others have Same Problem (Thats User Account)
I created 3rd and 4th account-Same Problem (Those are Admin Account)
There aren't any file named "com.apple.spotlight.plist" in my account. I deleted "com.apple.systemuiserver.plist" and restarted computer. Same Problem. What I realized after, There aren't any file named "com.apple.spotlight.plist" in all accounts, even they are admin or normal account. (Guest,2nd,3rd,4th and My Account). There are systemuiserver files in all accounts. Its looks like I have problem with system wide. I verified and repaired Disk. with System DVD. I verified and fix Permissions. with System DVD and Onyx Application. I installed 10.6.4 again and restarted again. No file named com.apple.spotlight.plist.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I got a PowerBook G4(1.5 GHz, 512 MB RAM, a superdrive, and an airport card) for Christmas. Before I opened it as a present, my cousin did a clean install of Leopard. My wireless internet goes out every time I try to go to a new page or even refresh it. It's extremely annoying. In order to get it back on, I have to turn my airport card off, and then on again. I was thinking it was my airport card, but then the other day, I went out of town to a friends house.
My internet didnt go out once. I just got back today, and it keeps going out. My home internet is locked with a password, but my friends internet wasn't. However, I previously had a PC laptop and the internet was fine, my cousin has a MacBook Pro, and my brother just got a MacBook. All of them connect to the internet wirelessly and they don't have any problem with their internet. I don't know what to do.
I have a power mac G4. My tech man says I have a generic wireless card installed. I have tried to use internet connect but it does not see it. Also when a do a summary of the network the card is not detected. Finally, no Airport option ever comes up to connect to. It is not available. Anything I can do or do I need to find a mac pro in my area?
