I have a 2007 macbook pro 15 inch. I bought a wireless router that sends out both g and n signals. I know the ipod touch uses g signal.... but is there a way to confirm if the macbook pro is using the n signal?
i went to preferences/network/airport, but couldnt find anywhere which states the band of signal it is using.
So to preface my problem let me just say that ive got my own macbook which works on the same wireless network with no faults at all, so i assume its not an error with the networking hardware.
For xmas i bought my parents a macbook, recently (not sure how recently as theyve only just told me its happening) they can be browsing the web then all of a sudden the internet takes ages to load, it stalls on 'trying to connect' for a long time (40+ for each web page).
Ive tried using firefox and the same thing happens so it looks like its not safari specific, during this time i cannot ping [URL] through a terminal either or if i can the response time is unbelievably slow.
Now, ive tried disabling ipv6, ive set the dns servers to opendns and none of this has fixed it. if i click on the airport utility and turn it off and the back on it fixes the problem for a short period of time before it happens again.
Starting about 4 months ago my 3 year-old 2.0GHz Core Duo MacBook's wireless started to not work very well. What was happening is that after starting the computer or waking it from sleep, it was able to connect to my network, but after about 5 seconds it would lose the signal despite being physically very close to the router without anything to block the signal. The problem progressively got worse, and at its worst it was only able to connect about 1 in 10 times. Either it wouldn't find the network at all, or it would find it but couldn't connect because "The connection timed out" or something like that.
I never bothered fixing the problem because my Mac was having a bunch of other issues at the time, so I was just going to fix them all by doing a fresh install of Snow Leopard once it came out.
So 3 days ago I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard (I formatted the harddrive then did a fresh install, not an archive and install). Unfortunately, it only kinda helped the wireless problem: I can now connect half the time rather than 1 in 10 times like it used to be.
I'm quite sure my network isn't the problem because everyone that has used my network in the recent past (which has been about 10 different PCs, Macs, and iPhones) hasn't had any problems. FYI, I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router.
What, if any, are the options for a Wireless connection between MacBook Pro and my stereo system? I'd like to play music from iTunes. etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA few hours ago the wireless internet on my laptop stopped working. I have turned it off and on again, i have turned our wireless internet off and on again. I have also tested the internet on the other computers in the house (macs and pcs) and it works on all of them. I thought it might somehow be the distance so i've tried using it next to the internet box, still to no avail.
I took the laptop downstairs, came back up and when i sat back down, the internet stopped working on it. I didn't bash it about and i'm always very careful when carrying it around the place. Everything else still works on it.
It is displaying the wifi in the top right with the bars dimmed out and an exlamation mark in front. When i click it, under 'AirPort: On' it says 'Alert: No Internet Connection' and next to it is a triangle with an exclamation mark inside.
I notice that every time I close the lid on my MBP the machine goes to sleep, and the wireless connection disconnects. Is there any way to stop this behaviour so I can say download large files and such even while the lid is closed?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just purchased my new macbook pro and I wanted to know if it was possible to use the laptop as a router so that my PS3 could connect through it. I followed the steps someone else mentioned:
(1) Open System Preferences on your MacBook Pro, and open "Sharing"
(2) On the left column, click Internet Sharing and check the box
(3) Use the drop-down menu to select Ethernet in "Share your connection from..."
(4) Check the box next to Airport in the section "To computers using..."
(5) Close System Preferences and open the Airport menu from your Toolbar (top)
(6) Click "Create Network", add a name to your Computer-to-Computer network
(7) Leave the Channel as Automatic, add a password if you require (make sure your PS3 is compatible with your chosen level of security), click Ok.
(8) Connect an ethernet cable between your broadband modem and MacBook Pro
(9) Turn on your PS3 and perform your usual setup when connecting to a wireless network
I have an Ipod, and it did detect the new connection that was setup; however, my PS3 and my Windows Mobile phone did not detect it. Is there a reason for this? Do only Apple devices identify this connection?
The usb wireless mouse (microsoft wireless mobile mouse 3000) will work perfectly fine until I plug my notebook in.

I believe that I shut down my macbook but was mistaken and it did not shut down completely. The next day I opened it up and the screen wouldn't turn on like it usually does after simply being closed without powering down. I wasn't around to use it till a day later, being today, and I thought it was just a low battery problem. Now the battery is fully charged and yet it is still in the same state.
There is one light on but it is not bright like it is when sleep mode is not taking place. Also, it sounds like its running; I can hear the fan running but both the keyboard and screen are refusing to turn on. I've gone on the apple support page and have attempted what they suggest, but it didn't work. I don't use any plug in devices like a mouse, the only things I plug in are the battery charger and my IPod.
Could a 13" MBP with 8GB of ram and a SSD drive handle working with Photoshop CS5. Will it have enough muscle??

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing the following problem with my late 2007 MacBook Pro: I can't use it on batteries. As soon as I disconnect power supply, it works for 10-15 minutes and switches off. Not sleeps, but suddenly turns off completely. The system battery indicator drops by about 10% (showing 85-90% battery charged), whereas 4 out of 5 LEDs are lit on the battery itself. After such a sunned switch-off, I'm not able to start again the laptop - it doesn't react on Power On button - like the battery wasn't inserted at all. Right after I plug on power supply back again, everything gets back to normal and I can use it normally, but still only if it's connected to the electricity.

View 1 Replies View Relatedno restarts, updates or changes) my 3 and 4 finger gestures stopped working. Google led me to this thread: [URL] Seems several people had this problem and there are two solutions posted in that thread. The one I tried first, and it worked, was to create a new user account and switch to it. The gestures worked fine in that account so I tried my original account again and all was good. I deleted the new account and things are still back to normal so far.
View 1 Replies View Relatedmy new 2010 MBP just went to hell on me. All of a sudden all my factory installed software such as ical, dictionary, stickies, photobooth stopped working. They wont open in any way, either dock or applications. I've deleted plist, repaired disk permissions and repaired disk... nothing. Third party apps, safari and iphoto work. But iphoto froze when I open it. Apple wants me to reinstall the OS but I would like to avoid if possible.

I have an imac and macbook and last night the wireless internet stopped working on my macbook. The imac is connected via ethernet and that still works fine but the wireless won't work on it either. The funny thing is I have a PC that still connects fine to the wireless internet. I'm not even sure where to start with this one, airport won't even connect at all.

So...I just got my new MacBook Pro yesterday for graduation and I've been trying to connect to the internet wirelessly.
We have a Belkin 54G Wireless Router, which was private but I reset it so I don't think the wireless network is private anymore. So...my Mac now connects fully to the "Belkin54g" wireless network but I can't seem to get on the internet. We also connect through a Motorola modem.
I don't really know the difference between the DCHP and PPOEthingy....and network diagnostics apparently can't help.
I've tried putting in the IP address/subnet mask/etc but that doesn't work either. Sometimes it says its connected, other times it tells me there's no IP address.
If I need to call anyone, who should I call? The Mac people or the Wireless router/internet people?
I have wireless on my macbook but thats cuz it has a wireless connection/Airport.But my emac doesnt Is there anyway I can get wireless connection on it?
