I notice that every time I close the lid on my MBP the machine goes to sleep, and the wireless connection disconnects. Is there any way to stop this behaviour so I can say download large files and such even while the lid is closed?

This problem started happening a few days ago. When the macbook is disconnected, iPad that I have on the wireless can connect to internet.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy MBP has this issue every once in a while where I have to hold the power button and force shut down. Randomly the volume keys/brightness etc. stop working and i can't open apps or shut it down normally. Everything still works though (can still function in open applications) Anyone know what the problem is? It fixes when I force reset.

I have a month old iMac 21.5" running Lion and a 17" Macbook Pro on SL From out of the box, I have had wifi issues with the iMac that have become worse since installing the wifi update last week. While my Macbook connects and stays connected with no issue, the iMac dropps the connection and looses all Access Points every 30 minutes to an hour. This is becoming a real head ache as I do allot of Facetime / Webnars.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just bought an Imac 21.5inch, mid 2011 - Lion 10.7.3 (11D50) and the wireless connection keeps stopping either it shows it's connected or it's not connected at all. This happens every 30 mins or so, sometimes after 5 minutes or sometimes I can get away for a few hours. I'm using a Draytek router with 3 Wifi aeriels and in the house I have 2 mac minis, an ipad, iphone, android phone and a couple of other PCs, none of which have this problem. I've tried changing the router from G to N and also checked who else nearby is in the same wifi settings, I'm set to 6 others set to 1 or 12. So wouldn't think there is interference. I've only just bought this machine so wondering if it's a problem with Lion or the iMAC. Â

I have an iMac OS X 10.7.3 (purchased in late 2010) with all updates current. I use AirPort to connect to my Linksys router with a WPA2 password.
Nearly everytime I wake my computer from sleep, my wireless router is disconnected, even when I have set my settings and clicked on the lock to prevent further changes. My router always shows on the list of available connections with full strength, but it is more often than not extremely difficult to get it connected again. It says "Could not join "myRouter". A connection time out occured."Â I usually have to use the assistant and go through the steps, which usually includes re-typing my password four to five times before it agrees that I know my own password (which is fairly simple to type, I can't possibly be entering it incorrectly that many times).
I downloaded and installed an update [URL] that quote: "resolves an issue that may cause an iMac to not automatically connect to a known Wi-Fi network after waking from sleep. It is recommended for all iMac (Late 2009 or newer) users running 10.7.3." Â
I tried setting a new location, and set the DHCP setting under TCP/IP to be manual. I was successful in connecting to the internet that time, and locked the settings to prevent further changes, yet the first time my computer woke from a sleep, the lock was unchecked and the settings were changed back to automatic. And I was disconnected yet again.Â
This has been going on for months, but in the last couple weeks I have found I am now unable to lock the lock to prevent changes, no matter if my Location is set to automatic or one that I have created. Really looking for resolution as this is wasting so much time, I am on and off the computer multiple times a day.Â

I installed Windows 7 on iMac 20 inch. All went smoothly and after lot of trail and errors, was able to recognize my apple wireless keyboard and mouse. All well till here. Now the problem is that these two devices keeps disconnecting very very often. For mouse, atleast i can move around and after few clicks, it starts working, but keyboard just doesn't work at all. I have to switch off the keyboard and then switch it back on to get it working for few more minutes. Is there a way I can resolve this? I've installed Bluetooth drivers from bootcamp 2.1 update for vista.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am Running a 2.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo 24" iMac running Mac OS X 10.7.3. I run time machine to backup to an external Seagate 3TB, FreeAgent GoFlex Desk, FireWire Drive. When the Mac goes into sleep mode, the Seagate drive un-mounts. When the Mac wakes up, I get an error that the drive was not properly disconnected and the drive is no longer mounted. The only way I can get the drive to remount, is to remove power from the drive for several seconds and then reconnect it.

I have an old MBP laying around that is not worth selling due to a number of little issues it has. However, it still functions just fine and, I think, would make an excelent server. However, there is one small issue: If I close the lid, it will go to sleep.Â
I've tried using a few different apps, InsomniaX and Caffiene being two of the more popular ones, but so far nothing seems to take. I know I can do this with the use of an external monitor or mouse, but I don't want to have to keep a mouse plugged in simply so my server can run and I don't have, or want, to set up a monitor for it.Â

If I have my headphones on, and I put my MacbookPro to sleep. After I start the laptop again, the headphones do not work. Even if I remove the headphones, there is no sound. Â

quite often, when I'm looking at a web page or something on the internet, the page doesn't load. It will get the first part of a bar in Safari but it will stay there for minutes and then go to one of those white screens.
The usb wireless mouse (microsoft wireless mobile mouse 3000) will work perfectly fine until I plug my notebook in.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Mac Mini as a home server (turns out to be not a great idea, btw), and even though I set the preference to never sleep or shut down, it does go to sleep when there is no activity for long time. Since I am using it as home server, it should stay awake all the time or at least wake up from sleep when there is incoming ping from other computer, but it just goes to sleep.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst off, apologies if this has been addressed in a previous post; went through a few pages and saw nothing that helped. I have been having problems with my i5 Thunderbolt 11" MacBook Air - running Lion 10.7.3 - reconnecting to my home network, which is listed as a Prefered Network, after being in sleep mode; especially after a long sleep, say overnight. Â
I know it's not my network because my 2.8 Core 2 Duo 15" MBP - running 10.6.8 - never has a problems reconnecting. I see other posts refering to a WiFi Update for other machines, but not the Air. And this was purchased with Lion, so while a re-install might solve the issue - again something I saw suggested - I would rather avoid the hassle. Â
I've checked with the "Apple people" at Best Buy - the closest thing I have to an Apple Store here in South Texas - and they say the recent update should have fixed the problem. Â Â [URL]..
I'm hoping I can get some ideas and guidance on this. A few months ago I bought my wife a 17" MBP. At the time we had a D-Link DIR655 Wireless-N router and the MBP worked great with it. If I woke the machine from sleep the reconnection to the wireless network was pretty much instantaneous.
Unfortunately that router started to flake out and I replaced it with what is considered to be a top of the line router, Netgear WNDR3700. This router has a dual N band. One band is N only the other one is B/G/N. I have attached the MBP to both networks.
When the MBP wakes up it takes up to a minute for the wireless to be re-established. Weirdly it will reconnect to the SECOND of the two networks that are listed in priority order on the advanced wireless settings.If I remove either of the two networks and only have one listed, sometimes the MBP will take over a minute to eventually get reconnected.Does anyone have any thought on this? It's very frustrating and I haven't figured out why the reconnection is so slow with this very high end router. All my other wireless devices maintain their connection to the router very well with no drops or reconnects.
After using my MacBook Pro I close the laptop and it goes to sleep. Later when I return to it and open it, sometimes it can't find the network. The computer is able to see that I have an Apple Network available, but it won't connect.Sometimes when I try to connect, it gives me a timeout. How I fix it is to walk over to the router and unplug it and plug it back in. After I get the green light again, I go to the Apple Network and it works.

I have seen several threads on the Internet but never an answer to the noise problem Imacs seem to have when in sleep mode. We have an Imac, 27' 10.6.5 2TB bought this summer, in the bedroom which we use as a TV. When we go to sleep we put the Imac to sleep as well with the remote and the ZZZ on the screen. During the night however the Imac fan or harddisk starts to spin as if the whole thing is going to startup but then it winds down again and it does this every hour or so. It is so loud that it wakes us up. Some nights it does it some nights it doesn't. Before we actually had the screen come on too but now it doesn't do that anymore.

But when it's asleep too long, remote tap will fail to wake it, and the only thing that will wake it is if I hit a button on the keyboard or mouse. Is there a way to just keep it in normal sleep(?) or something?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI replaced my superdisk with a 500 Gb Seagate drive in an optibay enclosure (unibody MBP running 10.6.2). The drive mounts fine on startup, and has not exhibited any unpredictable behavior in the file system, but it frequently ejects and provides me with this unhelpful message:The disk was not ejected properly. If possible, always eject a disk before unplugging it or turning it off. To eject a disk, select it in the Finder and choose File . Eject. The next time you connect the disk, Mac OS X will attempt to repair any damage to the information on the disk.
Once the drive ejects it is not visible in disk utility. I can hear it spinning continuously, but cannot access the drive. Moreover, I cannot access the drive unless I fully shut down the system and then reboot. A restart is often not sufficient to get the drive back up, but a full shutdown has worked every time so far.
The behavior seems to happen when the computer sleeps. I noticed that it would also happen sometimes if I handled the computer roughly by setting it down jarringly, so I took the whole thing apart, and reseated the drive within the enclosure, but the drive still ejects frequently, about once per day.
My 6 week old wont wake up when it has been asleep more than 20 mins. i need to turn the power off and on at the point amd reboot. Could i†be a Norton conflict?

I have set my display to sleep after 10 minutes of inactivity (see screen shot). This has worked up no problems for the life of my MBP (1 year). Now, all of a sudden the display won't sleep. The display remains on, and does not dim either. Restarting the computer causes this feature to function again...then it starts to not sleep after a a few hours (or so).
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Lion, on a MacMini, and now everytime I use sleep mode, I can't wake my lion up again because key presses or mouse clicks don't work anymore. I can still move the pointer, but OS does not respond anymore to mouse clicks or keyboard. Have to power down, then start up again. Keyboard & mouse then work until the next time the lion sleeps.Â
This is quite annoying, as I'm an intermittent style of user who relies on sleep mode a lot. Â
Lion is nice when it works, but it has introduced problems I've never had before. And booting into Lion is way slower than Leopard or Snow Leopard were. At least double the time, or more.Â
Should mention I'm also using a Logitech denovo wireless keyboard and a Logitech M570 wireless trackball.Â
Connecting a standard USB keyboard and/or mouse, once the lion has gone to sleep, does not solve anything. The OS still does not respond.Â

I have two different iMacs: late 2011 and Mid 2010. Both imacs wifi stop working after sleep mode. ***?! Ipod and iphones work properly at is time. I have checked disk utils and fixed permissions. Everything is updated. Maybe there is the way to reenable wifi module without rebooting my computers?
Im very dissapointed apple imacs. Lcd of mid 2010 being changing for the second time. Last time it worked ok for 5 month. ***?! Is it ok for lcd screen? Or maybe I should turn into hackintosh to avoid poor-quality hardware? Rofl. **** I have only apple devices and starting nervous about it.

I have a 2007 macbook pro 15 inch. I bought a wireless router that sends out both g and n signals. I know the ipod touch uses g signal.... but is there a way to confirm if the macbook pro is using the n signal?
i went to preferences/network/airport, but couldnt find anywhere which states the band of signal it is using.
As of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.
When I'm working, sometimes it goes to sleep without any warning, also with a full battery. It never happens when the magsafe is connected. I noticed that when I wake the macbook again, in the battery icon (top-right), there is a "X" instead of it's capacity%.. Therefore I blame my battery for the random sleep. (the "X" dissapears almost immediately after waking up)
