PowerPC :: Is A Drive Change Different From The Other 15" Versions

Apr 28, 2007

I'm looking to swap out my hard drive for a 120GB (from 80GB). I noticed that [URL] doesn't have a guide for the high res model. Is a drive change different from the other 15" versions?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Does Time Machine "restore" Change All Subsequent Versions

Apr 24, 2012

This evening I some how accidently "restored" a document I had been working on to a version I started about a month ago.  I honestly have no idea how this happened since I hadn't even opened Time Machine when noticed the document was the old version (the program and document had been open on my laptop for days). Anyway, I thought maybe I could just go back to the version from yesterday or a few days ago, but it seems that once today's version is restored to March 28th's version, all subsequent versions are also restored. If there is any way to find a previous version of this document (that is not the March 28th one!), I would be estactic.

MacBook :: Partition Hard Drive To Run Two Different Versions Of OS X?

Aug 9, 2010

I've just upgraded my macbook to snow leopard from tiger, and after opening an application I have to use yearly for work, I discovered that the program cannot function in Snow Leopard without a $275 update which my job will not pay for. Before I decide to either spring for the update or downgrade back to Tiger, is there a way I could use a hard drive partition to run two different versions of OSX? My concern is if I downgrade on any section of my hard drive it would downgrade the entire thing. Is there a way of doing this?

PowerPC :: How To Change Admin Password On G5

Sep 2, 2009

I have inherited my uncle's computers and I'm having problems logging into his iMac G5 20". I have the original Tiger Install DVD, I put it in, restart, pressing C, etc., but the install DVD doesn't run and I just end up at the login screen. He also had an iBook G4 and I used the same trick to change the admin password - it worked just fine. Does anyone know why pressing C isn't starting up the install disk? Its the original.

ALSO: I've read of a workaround using the single-user password reset option that goes as follows:
- start computer pressing Command-S
- sh /etc/rc
- password 'Uncle Paul'
- enter a new password twice
- reboot

I'm afraid to do it though, because I need to gain access to my uncle's files before I reinstall. My parents insist of getting all his pictures and stuff (he was also writing his autobiography.) Will doing the above Command-S measure mess with any of his files?

OS X :: Two Versions Of XP And Mac?

Mar 16, 2009

As the title says, I have started to think that I will need two versions of XP if i want to use bootcamp, as well as Parallels/VMWare Fussion. After originally buying my iMac, and installing XP SP2 through bootcamp i was chuffed that it all worked as it should (maybe i was just soo used to windows being rubbishy). then trying to install vmware (cant remember, september was when i did it) it had faffed around and then installed. but when booting into windows (this is without reinstalling windows again, ie using the bootcamp partition) windows came up saying that it was different hardware and that it needed to reregister and, upon closing the first multiboot and trying again is failed and just never worked. does this mean that if indeed i buy parallels/vmware (still dont know) i need to install that first, and then do another installation of windows? was it just coincidence that it messed up? have the new version fixed all this?

PowerPC :: Change On DVD Region Code Settings

Apr 26, 2008

I'm down to one last change on the DVD region code setting. It boggles me why Apple would do this. I've tried using VLC and it does not work. Not sure if I'm doing it right, there is a brief window that pops up and then closes immediately. There is time indicated and it looks as though the movie would play, however the the window closes right afterwards. I also have DVD Player still opened because if I were to click cancel, the DVD just pops out. Are there any other alternatives I can try or am I doomed to this one setting? I don't have the time, nor want to go through the hassle of completely wiping out the hard drive and OS again.

My wife accidentaly dropped our ibook with the screen open. It landed on the corner of the screen, and the right hinge cracked a bit.It still close, but not perfect. It also seems that the hinge get worse every time I open and close it, so I left it open.happened a couople of weeks ago, and the machine it self runs perfect (or so it seems, no trouble since)I took it to my local Apple center and they said the hinge is a part of the screen, so to fix it they?ll have to change the screen. This is very expensive, especially due to the fact that it still works perfectly. The guy added that they MIGHT be able to improvise and just glue (or whatever) the hinge What do youthink are the chances that they can fix it without changing the screen?

I am only going to use a small amount of space since I will only need to install the OS and a few images files.
