PowerPC :: Change On DVD Region Code Settings
Apr 26, 2008
I'm down to one last change on the DVD region code setting. It boggles me why Apple would do this. I've tried using VLC and it does not work. Not sure if I'm doing it right, there is a brief window that pops up and then closes immediately. There is time indicated and it looks as though the movie would play, however the the window closes right afterwards. I also have DVD Player still opened because if I were to click cancel, the DVD just pops out. Are there any other alternatives I can try or am I doomed to this one setting? I don't have the time, nor want to go through the hassle of completely wiping out the hard drive and OS again.

I have a problem playing DVDs on my 2007 MacBook. I recently watched a DVD in region code 1, and now I want to go back to region code 2. I have done this a couple of times, but I still have one chance left (or so DVD Player tells me). Yet when I try to change back, I get an error reading Error: - 70001. Can anyone help? It says I still have one try left???

A technician tested my optical drive and found it was set to Master. My readings indicate if the optical drive is to be set to Master , then the Hard disk needs to be set to slave. Changing the optical to slave seems very difficult, so, How do I set the hDD jumpers to slave instead. I presume they exist? I need a link and instructions as to how to perform this on my powerbook G4 1.67ghz.

on a macbook pro, you can only change the DCD region 5 times. I accidentally changed it 5 times and now it's stuck on the european region, which means that i can't watch american dvds. Â can I re-set my dcd region or do I have to go to the store? Â Â i was living abroad and that is why i had to switch so many times.

When I first got my macbook I changed the region the 5 times you are allowed without realising that there was a limit.I had recently got a region 1 DVD and wanted to play it so I kept changing the region to region 1 and it eventually stuck on that. This is a problem because 99% of my DVDs are actually region 2 so I can't watch any of them. I didn't know there was a limit to changing it or I wouldn't have changed and now I feel pretty desperate because it was just a mistake and now I can't watch any of my DVDs on it.

I had until now only used my macbook with "local" DVD from Region 2. I have a few weeks ago watched one single DVD from region 1, and had therefore to accept the region change in the pop-up dialog. I did accept knowing I would reverse to region 2 after.
I have not read an DVD until today, hen I am trying to load again a region 2 DVD.
Problem: DVd player or Handbrake do not see the DVD, (but VLC can), and I see no dialog offering me to change the region code.
1) where can I see what is my current setting?
2) how can I get DVD player Mac OS X to present that dialog, so that I can reverse to region 2?

We have a Dual 867MHz G4 MDD (combo drive) running OSX 10.2.8. We're in the UK, which is Region 2 for DVD's.Somehow (probably by accidentally playing a Region 1 disc) the drive is stuck on region 1, and refuses to be changed to region 2.When I click on "Set region now", I get the attached error message. When I click on OK, the region 2 DVD gets ejected. How can I set the G4 so as it will play region 2 DVD's again?

I have had my MacBook Pro now for a little over 2 yrs and I was very frustrated I could not change any print options in any application. I know that the Triangle button expands print options screen but when I do, I have only two print choices. It gave me Standard or Page Attributes in Office and any other App it is Standard and Last used settings. I can't print in Draft, Best or other setting because it does not even give them as a choice. I have two high end color photo printers, Canon i9900 and Epson Photo series and an old HP830 series. Any app I tried to print from and the same thing. I tried to capture the options on the choices but it would not grab that part of the image but here is my screen shot. I searched many forums and I still get the same answer so something else is not letting me change things so I figured best to ask since I am a 20 year win user now switched to Mac. Well right after I posted this question, my wife found the answer. I never though to check the application NAME in the print setting screen. Example, in the screenshot I am using Preview. I never thought to hit the up/down arrow next to the Preview label and wouldn't you know, that is were the quality and several other settings were. I felt pretty stupid that it took 2 years to figure this out but if I posted the answer maybe someone else will not have to take as long as I did to change their print quality!

I was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?

I have an old PowerMac G4 (AGP Graphics), which has served me dutifully for a long time. However, I recently took all but 128mb of the ram out to temporarily use in other computers, and when I went to put the modules back in, basically none of them worked. Here's the deal: I have 2 256 modules, and when I put those in my computer, whether individually, together, or with other modules, I get this message on-screen and the computer does not boot: localhost:/ root# []. Similarly, I have 3 128mb sticks, but if I put more than one in the computer at a time, I get the same message. I'm thinking the computer may have some issue with more than 128mb of ram, but why all of a sudden? I don't really know anything about code or whatever the computer is trying to tell me.

I'm obviously new with Power Mac G5. I have two different logic boards for a Power Mac G5. The EEE code and part numbers are as follows:
Logic Board 1:
EEE Code: SML
Part Num: 661-3585
Other Num: 630T6907 (I don't know what this number signifies)
Logic Board 2:
EEE Code: SMJ
Part Num: 661-3584
Other Num: 630T6906 (Again, I don't know what this number is for)
My question is this; what configurations can I use these boards as replacements in? I'm looking at 3 PowerMacs right now but none have matching EEE codes. I listed the EEE codes and the type of machine they are below.
PowerMac 1:
EEE code: Q5M
Single 1.8GHz G5, 1GB Ram
Power Mac 2:
EEE code: ROR
Dual 2.5GHz G5, 1GB Ram
Power Mac 3:
EEE code: Q6E
Dual 2.0 GHz G5, 4GB Ram, Bought in late 2003
So, if it is impossible to use these logic boards as replacements in any of the above mentioned systems, which systems are they actually good for? I understand there may be system bus speed differences for one. But is there some sort of reference for these EEE codes such as a table or chart? Or possibly a compatibility list or description table with features for each board?

Even if you never 'install' Rosetta, PowerPC is still in yer system, slowin' U down. That means the only reason Rosetta has to be 'installed' is probably to reduce their licensing costs to Transitive (now IBM). Interestingly, there is some ppc in there:
Code:
$ file Foundation
Foundation: Mach-O universal binary with 3 architectures
Foundation (for architecture x86_64):Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64
Foundation (for architecture i386):Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386
Foundation (for architecture ppc7400):Mach-O dynamically linked shared library ppc
I'll probably install Rosetta eventually, I just don't need any PPC software at the moment.

It may sound mad, but I miss the ubuntu look. Is there anyway possible by either the use of applications or changing settings that I can make my mac look a little like ubuntu (all orange and stuff). I'm running os x 10.5 btw, and there doesn't seem to be much way to customize it as far as I can see.

Before I totally loose what little I have in the way of hair on my head.....For the life of me I can not remember how I changed this setting...When you close a application eg. Word.. and when you reopen the application, that last document used always opens aswell. Regardless of what I told the application to open like a completely different document. It goes the same with safari, preview text edit, the list goes on....I dont recall how i stopped it on my old macbook and now i bought this new macbook pro,

I have QT Pro 7.6.6 installed on a system running 10.6.8. When I try to export a file as a Quicktime movie, the setting button doesn't do anything. I doubt anyone will be able to reproduce this, but here are the steps: - Open a file with quicktime 7 - Go to File > Export... - Change the Export dropdown menu to Movie to QuickTime Movie - Click Options… - Under Video click Settings… That's it. When I click Settings in that last step, the button changes color to indicate that I've click it, but nothing happens. The other buttons (filter, size, settings) on that same dialog box work. As I said, I don't believe anyone will be able to reproduce this, but what I'd like to know is are there any pref files or other files that I can trash to see if it helps? I've already deleted my quicktime preferences, and that did nothing.
